I posted in both the Javascript API and ArcGIS Server forums. I figured there were some developers that had run across this issue as well and might have some input.

I have a Windows Server 2012 R2 running SQL Server 2012 R2 and ESRI Server 10.3. The server has 16 dual-core Xeon processors and 96 GB of RAM. I have a web application that is using ArcGISDynamicMapServiceLayers to display state-wide lines and points, including labels for both lines and points. We restrict the display of the lines/points until the user is zoomed to an appropriate level. The issue that we are seeing is every time the web application requests data, the SQL Server CPU load goes to 100%. When one user is using the application performance is not bad, but when several folks start using it performance degrades quickly. In analyzing the queries that are being used, it doesn't appear that SQL Server is using the spatial indexes at all. I've tried several things, including setting MAXDOP to 1, but nothing seems to work and SQL Server takes the CPU to 100% every time the application requests data. Has anyone experienced this issue and been able to find a resolution?

I have a web application that is referencing several ArcGIS web services that all use spatial reference 26916. When I set a custom extent in my map to force the map spatial reference to 26916 I am not able to use the streets basemap that I'm able to use with the default map spatial reference (3857). The following instantiates the map correctly (with just a white background but all of the layers working correctly): var customExtentAndSpatialReference = new Extent({ "xmin": 360685, "ymin": 3344235, "xmax": 693879, "ymax": 3874530, "spatialReference": { "wkid": 26916 } }); map = new Map("divMap", { "extent": customExtentAndSpatialReference }); but when I set the basemap to streets, like this: var customExtentAndSpatialReference = new Extent({ "xmin": 360685, "ymin": 3344235, "xmax": 693879, "ymax": 3874530, "spatialReference": { "wkid": 26916 } }); map = new Map("divMap", { "extent": customExtentAndSpatialReference, "basemap": "streets" }); The map spatial reference is set to 3857. When I add one of the feature layers (26916 srid) first and then try to use map.setBasemap("streets") to set the basemap it does not successfully set the basemap. Any suggestions or documentation on good basemaps to use with spatial reference 26916?

Thanks again for this utility...it has been very helpful. In my application I have a set of data that contains mile points and I am using these mile points to draw lines/points along the route. So, I initially tried to use esriMiles as my route unit, but I was getting the same results as when I used esriMeters as my units. To get around the issue I'm converting from miles to meters before I make the utility PointLocation and LineLocation service calls, so I'm able to work around it. Just thought I would let you know in case there is an easy fix to the issue. Thanks again, Steve

The dynamic segmentation utility has been very helpful. It seems, though, that the routeMeasureUnit parameter is not affecting the output at all. I can enter esriMeters or esriMiles and I get the same output. Does the service default to esriMeters? Have you seen this same behavior in your use of the utility? Thanks, Steve

You can reference this post as an answer to this issue: A server object extension for performing dynamic segmentation | ArcGIS Blog We are also going to try the Roads and Highways extension to ESRI Server and enable the linear referencing capability of the web services, but the above answer is working very well.

Given the latest version of ArcGIS Server and the latest Javascript API, what is the best method to 1) get measures down an m polyline based on a user click on the line and 2) dynamically displaying point values on a polyline based on a table of measured events down that line?

I have an m-polyline feature class that I am referencing in a web application. What is the best way to 1) allow the user to click on a line and indicate how far down the line they have clicked, and 2) dynamically draw points down the line giving a table of event measures down the line?

The root cause of this error was using the fully-qualified hostname sometimes versus not using it other times. I was typing just the hostname (MyServerName) versus the fully qualified hostname (MyServerName.Ua.Edu). So, when I created the database connection the name was converted to fully qualifiied, which didn't necessarily match the name I used when registering the database. So, to fix this issue I'm importing my database connection when registering the database to ensure that the server names are the same in both entries.

The feature class and database I’m using is not versioned, so I don’t believe this is quite the same issue. Just in case, I tried to create a new data store entry and got a “this database is already registered” error. Thanks for the reply…would appreciate any other ideas that you have. Thanks, Steve

I have recently upgraded to ArcServer 10.3 (from 10.2.2), and have since been unable to publish a web service with any new enterprise geodatabases that I've created. I create the new database using the "Create Enterprise Geodatabase" option under Data Management Tools in ArcCatalog. I am using a SQL Server login that is has administrator rights on the SQL Server. After the geodatabase is successfully created I register the database successfully with the server. I then create a feature class, add it to a map, and attempt to "Share As...Service from the ArcMap menu. In the analyze phase of the service dialog I continue to get "Feature service requires a registered database" even though I can open up the server data store manager and successfully validate the new database (and all of my other databases). I am using the same SQL Server login to create the database and the ArcCatalog database connection that accesses the feature class. Any ideas on what else I need to take a look at? Thanks, Steve

I set the System Property standardizedQueries to false using the Admin service (http://myserver.mydomain:6080/arcgis/admin) and that solved the inability to use inner selects in queries.
