Hello, any input to what I am trying to do would greatly help my workflow. I have a proposed dam site that needs to be 20 feet in width at the top of the dam and then from there on both sides, I need to calculate the volume on a 3 (horizontal) to 1 (vertical) slope until it touches the existing surface. Any thoughts? I know how to calculate volume at a specific elevation but when the 3:1 needs to go off both sides of the top of the dam, I am stumped. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Jarom

If you want to upload a new SD file and overwrite existing services, you first need to delete the services. Mike Perhaps I'm not understanding this so correct me if I am wrong. If I were to delete the service first, how would I be able to overwrite the existing service from within ArcGIS for Desktop 10.1? When I go to Share As a Service and I want to overwrite a service, I have to find the service I want to replace and overwrite but it will not be available because I deleted it first per your suggestion. Sorry, I'm just trying to get a hold on this because every time I seem to overwrite an existing service with updated data, it does not reflect in ArcGIS Online. Thanks, Jarom

I finally remembered and yes, it is through the custom attribute option. What I ended up doing was creating a field that contains the base of the URL and then used the custom attribute option to combine the two fields.

Hello, Recently I attended one of ESRI's seminars about transforming your organization. In that presentation, the live demo introduced a way to use a hyperlink combined with another field to generate a very quick way of viewing data. For example, I have parcel data with the parcel ID associated with each feature in my table. I know the County website and search parameters to follow in order to find the data associated with each parcel ID. See below: Website: http://assessors.whatever.com/query/parcel_ID= My Field: {ParcelID} What I would like to do is combine the two together and have the parcel field to containing the link associated with the parcel ID. So when everything is said and done, the individual will click on the parcel and see the pop-up window come up and then just click the parcel ID number from the parcel ID field to open the assessor's website to see the information for that particular parcel. I just cannot remember for the life of me how they did it when I was at the seminar. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks, Jarom

From what I can read, you know your systems inside and out. Would you ever consider sharing your geodatabase schema or data dictionary to provide a relevant example of how you accomplished this mind-boggling task? I am always looking for ways to improve our GIS infrastructure and would love to see a working model. Thank you for your time! Jarom

Thank you very much for your reply. I can now see my maps through the search button as you have mentioned As mentioned before, I can see my ArcGIS Online maps that I have created; however, I cannot see any of my data when opening them. Most of my maps are a feature service right now. Does ArcGIS Explorer handle feature services yet? Thank you, Jarom

Thank you for your reply. I actually read in another forum what you are explaining to me but I verified in my own data all of the shape fields and they were all visible. I analyzed the mxd as well as analyzed the publishing service and received no warnings or errors. What I did initially was copied and pasted a project Geodatabase to a new folder so I would not somehow mess with the integrity of the original Geodatabase for publishing these services. I also had previously created map document files that I also copied over to a new folder keeping everything relative so I would not have to repair data sources. As you are well aware, there are certain things in map documents that cannot be published so that is why I created copies of these map documents so I could change them to the structure of the publisher requirements. Anyway, everything created was relative so I tried publishing it and this is the error I received. So I did some more troubleshooting in which I renamed the Geodatabase to a different name and repaired the sources in the map documents and for some reason, that seemed to fix the issue. Is there an explanation for this or was it just dumb luck? Thank you for your time!

Hello, I have been messing with publishing maps through ArcGIS for Desktop 10.1 and have successfully published a service with some of my maps. However, I came across this error: error 001272 analyzer errors were encountered (codes = 123) when trying to publish my last map to ArcGIS Online. I did everything according to what I have done previously with my other maps. I use the analyze check tool and no errors, warnings, or messages appear in the prepare table. I then click on publish in this is the error I get. Any suggestions? Thank you!

I have looked through some of ArcGIS Online forum posts but have not received a definitive answer on labeling aspects of a map. I know labeling is not possible in a Web map but I did read that it is possible through a service. I am publishing my maps to ArcGIS Online through ArcGIS for Desktop 10.1. I have a subscription and am wondering if labeling is at all possible through this method once shared as a service? I have a reference scale on the map as well as scale ranges when a particular feature goes beyond the scale range limits. I have tried publishing with the scale ranges from 10.1 but cannot get the labels to work. A little clarification would be great! Thank you, Jarom

I recently installed the Beta 2012 version and for some reason cannot access my groups and my maps from ArcGIS online. Was this feature taken out? In the 1750 version, there was an option under the ArcGIS Explorer button where you could click on ArcGIS online and view that information. Thank you!

hello, in order to use your raster data, you have to publish it as a hosted title service. I am new to ARCGIS online for organizations but have been reading the help documentation thoroughly which has really helped answer a lot of the questions. For more information on hosting a tile service, click the link below: http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcgisonline/help/index.html#/Hosted_tiled_map_services/010q0000006n000000/ hope this helps!

As a workaround, you should be able to rebuild your description from scratch, which should remove the background color. To do this, navigate to the description editor - backing up your text before you edit, if necessary - then highlight all the text in the editor and delete it. Make sure line breaks and white space content is deleted as well. Save the change, then re-enter the description editor and enter your text again. Make sure you don't click on or use the background color button while you are rewriting your description, then save when you're done. Note that if you are copying from an HTML or Rich Text source (such as WordPad or MS Office) and pasting it into the description editor, it will keep as much formatting, colors and style information from your source as possible, as the description editor supports Rich Text. Make sure you are copying from a plain text source, such as text from an application such as Notepad, if you are going to paste text into the description editor and don't want to carry over formatting, colors, etc. from your source document. Hope this helps, Blake Thank you very much for your reply! What you have suggested seemed to do the trick. Brilliant!

I know I have been posting a lot lately but I am taking advantage of the 30 day trial and I have to present it in a way so my company will be willing to grasp on to the concept and realize the timesaver this will be. Anyway, is there a way to add bullets or rich text to the description area in the user profiles? it would be nice to add lines and paragraphs to organize it visually to make it more appealing.

hello, I have enabled rich text in my attributes for my pop-ups in which some of them have multiple lines and hyperlinks. Everything looks and works great in my web map but when I go to view my map on my ARCGIS Explorer online, I see wrap tags and the entire link in my attribute values. Is this a bug in the application or am I doing something wrong? Thank you for your time!
