Hello, I have been experimenting with transitioning over to the parcel fabric way of maintaining land records and was wondering if there is an automated way to generate legal descriptions after the data has been implemented in the fabric? For instance, say I want to create a new subdivision with so many lots and I go ahead and perform joins that I want. Is there any way to create a legal description from the new subdivision I created? Thank you for your time!

Hello, I have run into a problem after downloading the elevation's profile web application. I am trying to customize it according to my liking and quite honestly, I am not a programmer by any means but know my way around based on your help files and instructions. I am trying to put in my map ID inside the code in the index.html file but I'm not able to find where exactly it needs to go. I am wondering if the commented area where the map id is supposed to go is not included in the zip file I downloaded. I do not see anywhere I can put this ID. Any help would be much appreciated! I attached the downloaded zip file I downloaded from the "make a web application" gallery. Thanks!

Thank you for the information. I looked through the blog that you provided and unfortunately, I do not have ArcGIS for Desktop Advanced license level to perform the mask. I tried creating a tiled map with my annotation layer and used the suggested implementation when you start the share a hosted service option. I received no error warnings and it previewed just fine. I went ahead and shared it to my ArcGIS online account. I then went to my web map and added the new map service, after sharing it of course, and I could not see any labels. Perhaps I am doing something wrong? If anyone can help me with this, I would greatly appreciate it.

I would like to create a Mapping Service with an annotation feature class that I have so when I add it to my feature service web map, the labels on the Mapping Service will appear on the web map. I guess my underlying question is, can you produce a Tiled Map with just annotation? If you can, what is the workflow and if you can't, are there any other options to try and get labeling appear on a web map? I know labels are not supported as of yet but was just curious if you can create annotation on a base map layer? Thank you for your help!

Hello, thank you for getting back with me. To answer your questions, there really is not any way for me to tell which features were not added. I made a lot of very minor edits such as snapping, trimming, and extending features for connectivity. I do see some line features that were added in some areas but definitely see edits I performed not synced to ArcGIS Online. There really is nothing odd about any of the geometry as I have hosted several water systems to the online environment and have gone through all of the checks before publishing. I am working with all feature types which includes points, lines, and polygons. I did a lot of attribute editing for all three of these feature types and from what I can see, most of the polygon attributes I updated have not been reflected after attempting to sync. My hosted data does use a lot of domains and actually did notice that some of those domains did not transfer over to the local copy. I thought that was odd but did not think anything of it. It seems like there are a few bugs to work through but perhaps I just am not doing it right. I can honestly say, I probably performed over 200 edits so I can't really tell which ones were synchronized and which ones were not. Thank you for your help!

Hello, I am having a frustrating issue when trying to sync my edits back to ArcGIS Online. I can create a local copy just fine and then I go about in the ArcMap environment editing my features the way I need to. I did this for a couple of days making sure I am saving my edits. I also saved the ArcMap document so I could work on it later. After all of this, I crossed my fingers and hoped that I could sync everything back to the server. I was quite disappointed as the Synchronizing Edits dialogue window just kept running and running. I waited an entire 24 hours to see if it would finally synchronize but it would not. I looked at my hosted features and noticed some updated but most of them did not. Is there a bug in ArcMap 10.1 Service Pack 1 that is not allowing me to synchronize my edits or am I doing something wrong? Thank you for your time!

Alright, I was just informed of a great way to synchronize changes, added features, deleted features, and anything else in the editing environment that can be performed on data from within ArcMap 10.1. We all know that for some reason the overwrite existing services option is not working. The best way to do this now is to make a local copy of the service. Please read the following help topic: http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/main/10.1/index.html#/About_editing_data_from_feature_services/01m60000000s000000 So what you need to do is add a feature service to ArcMap. If you have an organization account like I do, I can actually drag my feature service right into ArcMap from within My Hosted Services in ArcCatalog. Now the trick is, right-click on the group layer name, not the individual layer, and scroll down to Edit Features and then choose the first option Create Local Copy for Editing. This will create a local copy of the feature services within the group layer and put it in a new file geodatabase. Then you are off to the races. Start editing like you normally would and if you have several edits to apply and you can't get to it right away, just save your ArcMap session and reopen it when you're ready to finish your edits. After all edits are performed, go back to the Edit Features option and choose Synchronize Local Edits with Server. If you are using a file geodatabase like I am, you can only synchronize changes once. If you have other edits that need to be made, you will have to perform another Create Local Copy for Editing session. However, if you have an ArcSDE, you can perform multiple edits and whatnot. Anyway, hope this helps everyone out. I am finally excited for these editing capabilities which will absolutely streamline the workflow.

Mike, I get no such option to create a local copy. Perhaps I am not adding the data correctly. Right now, I am dragging in my web map listed under My Hosted Services in ArcCatalog. Please look at the attachment. These are the only options that I get. Do I need ArcGIS for Server to have this functionality? Thanks! UPDATE: Nevermind, I figured out what I was doing wrong. I actually have to right-click on the group name and not the individual layers. I now see the option to edit locally which I am extremely excited about. Thank you for your help!

Hello, I am trying to add attachments to a feature service that I have hosted in my ArcGIS Online for Organizations account. I go to the feature that I want to add an attachment to and when I go ahead and choose which file I want and click open, it returns an error message stating "Failed to add attachment". It is only on ArcGIS Explorer online that I get this issue. I can go to the ArcGIS.com Map Viewer and can add an attachment just fine or through a Web application but I cannot with Explorer online. Any suggestions? UPDATE: I also cannot see any attachments in ArcGIS Explorer Online if I uploaded one from a mobile device or if I attached one in ArcGIS.com Map Viewer. Anything related to attachments in ArcGIS Explorer Online does not work.

Hello, I have been using ArcGIS Explorer Online as well as ArcGIS.com Map Viewer to access my Web maps and features services and was wondering if there is any way to snap to features in either of these viewers? I do not see any documentation nor any discussions in this forum regarding this issue. Thank you!

Not through this new option, at least not yet. Desktop currently has it's own workflow for creating a local copy for editing. This, however, is a last edit in wins process, not synchronization. Thanks, Mike Mike, I was wondering what the actual workflow is for ArcGIS for Desktop 10.1 when wanting to synchronize changes from published feature services? Thank you!

Where is your data stored locally? In my simple test case, I was just using shapefiles... Thanks, Mike My data is stored in a file geodatabase that has domains established. Thank you!

I am also running 10.1 SP1. I also do not have a problem overwriting an existing feature service. I go through the process and everything seems to complete. It is the data behind the service that is not getting updated. Every time I overwrite an existing service, the original data is the same and no updated features or changes are showing just like jesterjace has stated. I guess the question is, what is the best workflow for our situation?
