Thanks Cheryl, thats a path to follow ... something like "change projection" would be much nicer 🙂

I am fighting an issue that basically could be resolved with ONE change in Portal/Online: Both should, as Pro does and CityEngine can set, allow to set Objects to ground as a default. I know this could be an improvement request, but maybe I am doing something initially wrong ... so I describe: My data starts out in CityEngine and there I align it to elevation/terrain that I obtain from ArcGIS Online. By a rule I extrude and texture the elements and then to explain create Multipatches from it (exporting to a Scene layer right away does not do anything different in the result. When I load this data into an ArcGIS Pro Scene, it does not align with the Ground. So my first assumption: Global terrain used in Pro IS NOT identical to the terrain I can download from in CityEngine 2017 ??? This is how it looks like after loading it in Pro in an area that is rugged: In Pro it is easy to fix that - just change the elevation settings to "on the ground" ... and here you go! Now I can create a Scene Layer Package from the data (as mentioned above -I could create that Package from CityEngine - but that does not behave different) and upload to ArcGIS Online. Not many settings there ..and the result is: So I am back to the version with Terrain mismatch! So to me there are two options: use the correct Elevation model in CityEngine right away? make the WebScene respect or be able to set "On the ground" Anyone any Ideas? Thanks!

Whenever you publish something to a Portal, unique naming is enforced and aided by the publishing process by adding something like this. In your case this is a WebFeatureLayer ... and a definition to it will be published as a document, too

I wonder: Is there AN EASY WAY to take a whole scene and copy/create it with similar content in a different projection (to be able to properly publish on ArcGIS Online)?

If you want to make it public anyway, why not give it to Esri to include in the global elevation service. Or tile it up and make it a cache to upload to ArcGIS Online via your account … And for the MrSID – do you have a license from Lizardtech to convert that size? You’ll need! Is there a special reason you want to use MrSID? What is the purpose of this data after conversion? Where are you going to use it? A (tiled) TIFF with LZW or LERC compression or something “modern” like MRF would be great to store elevation data! In short: “complex” compressions algorithms like e.g. wavelength, namely like MrSID or ECW or even JP2, are compact for storage, but computational intensive to extract/use. They use up a lot of memory (for short periods of time) – which is usually no problem if e.g. used on a mobile device that has limitations on available disk storage – but it is “risky” when using on a server (blocking up your memory and cpu) and has no big advantage besides the disk space issue – which shouldn’t be an issue in most cases today. For transport across the network of the “resulting image” the transport compression is much more important – and this is not depending on the disk file format but on the server used. Thi si not to mention costs associated with some formats because for compression or server use there might be licenses needed from the patent holders. In short - proper use of GDAL open formats and storage options - like tiled TIFF with a proper compression – is very very good, still compact and a save and interoperable way to go. And as a direct reply to your question: If I recall correctly, only creation of MrSID files up to 50MB is free of charge, beyond that you need a lizardtech license … maybe someone who is more recent in information can help here … Von: AMOL DESHMUKH Gesendet: Wednesday, August 9, 2017 8:25 AM An: Dörffel Günter <g.doerffel@mysynergis.com> Betreff: Re: - Re: Is there a tool to convert from TIFF to MrSID? Hi, in short: The *.aux.xml File is ArcGIS specific. ArcGIS stores information there – e.g. after calculating statistics – so this information is available later. If you go to another system, they might be of no use … The *.xml Files are – as you detected – standard XML Files and widely adopted by many systems to store and read metadata that might or might not be in the header of the files, too If you got TIFF-Files (and TIFF knows a lot of header-information itself), you might be fine just using them, … you can easily use GDAL to read/list what the header in the file says. See previous posts. I know you'll be loosing the live-link and update capability. But converting it to a graphic (right-click - convert to graphic) will at least give you a solution for now

Hi Nahide, from a quick scan that sounds like Python 🙂 If I got it right you know the NAME of the element you want to fill, or can create one - then you should be able to use the TextElement Class. Dont think you can just use dynamic text. Sure - you have to get the string part. If the document name has a structure as you say, something like this should do: import arcpy,os mxd = arcpy.mapping.MapDocument("CURRENT") #do this in two lines - safe bet if Path can contain additional underscores theName= str(mxd.filePath.split(os.sep)[-1:]) # now extract the number from the mxd-name theTitle = str(theName.split("_")[-2]) #I assume a logic of _Number_ here # and given you have an element called map title ... elm = arcpy.mapping.ListLayoutElements(mxd, "TEXT_ELEMENT", "MapTitle")[0] # set the text elm.text = TheTitle arcpy.RefreshActiveView()

You might run into what I ran into 🙂 The help of the tool states as the first "pre-requisit": Classify LAS Ground Only the last return of LAS points with class code values of 0, 1, or 2 will be considered for reclassification as ground. If your LAS files use different class code values to represent unclassified or ground measurements, consider using the Change LAS Class Codes tool to reassign them accordingly. The classification process will also ignore points that are assigned with either the overlap or noise classification flag. So in fact if your data is REALLY unclassified - ArcGIS will not classify it. You (still) need additional tools.

Since you are working in an Enterprise Geodatabase Environment it is hard to tell why this is locked. It lockes when trying to create the fields - even if this is a process that accepts existing fields. I can make another modification - and remove the ATTEMPT to create the fields as they are never actually need to be added - I've updated the attachement above. I left the warning for existing fields in there but added a counter-message that tells you how many records are updated. Keep in mind: I only check for the LAT field being NULL ... if so - record is updated .... I renamed the UI-selection to be POINT_LAT_LONG only to reflect more what you do ... hope it works for you - then you owe me a beer 🙂 and some points here 🙂
