On December 31st, 2021, we deprecated support for ArcGIS Explorer (iOS and Android platforms). We highly recommend that you migrate existing field solutions to ArcGIS Field Maps. Field Maps includes all of the capabilities of ArcGIS Collector, ArcGIS Explorer and ArcGIS Tracker combined as well as many new improvements to map viewing and map markup workflows with many more to come in 2022. You can use ArcGIS Field Maps with a Viewer user type and even anonymously with public maps and map packages. There are many resources available to get you started and we encourage that you review the migration guide for details on transitioning existing workflows. With the official deprecation: Esri will discontinue technical support for ArcGIS Explorer. Esri will no longer update ArcGIS Explorer app in the Apple App Store and Google Play. Esri will no longer certify mobile device platform updates or ArcGIS system updates with ArcGIS Explorer. We understand that migration takes time and will continue to provide access to ArcGIS Explorer in the Apple App Store and Google Play indefinitely.

@Anonymous User we found that Field Maps could get into a state where it would not recover when returning to the foreground after running in the background for a considerable amount of time (only on Android 12 devices). It looks like the corruption is related to obfuscation and ProGuard rules. Not sure I can provide much more information other than to say it's been a real &*(^*()@&*()^(!!!!

ArcGIS Online updated last night (December 8th) and you may be wondering what's new with ArcGIS Field Maps? Perhaps you've been waiting for updates to appear on your phone or tablet or looking forward to reading a blog announcement from us on all the great new features we've added? Unfortunately, we encountered an issue with Android 12 that is holding back our general release. We found a pretty nasty bug and just didn't feel it was right to release with the bug inside. So we are busy trying to stomp it out (with vengeance I might add) before releasing both the iOS and Android updates. We've held back our general announcements and our documentation updates as well. However, you are going to notice that there are some new updates that have appeared inside of your organization anyway. Map Viewer now authors forms With this latest update, smart form authoring is now available inside of the Map Viewer providing more opportunities for you to create forms. Also, if you take a look at what's new in Experience Builder, you are going to find a new Edit widget that you can use within your own focused web app with form editing as well. Both of these enhancements will compliment the work you do with Field Maps by providing a focused form editing experience in the office as well. New expression builder for conditional visibility Inside of the Field Maps web app, you are going to find a really amazing new enhancement for authoring and editing conditional visibility on fields and groups. We've introduced a new expression builder that lets you define an expression without having to write any Arcade syntax. In fact, it will even write Arcade on-the-fly for you! If you are an Arcade ninja though, you can break open the Arcade editor and continue writing code as you see fit. Viewing location tracks The Map Viewer has some nice new updates when viewing track views. Now when you add a track view to your map it will appear as a group layer with the last known location layer, track lines layer, and track points layer symbolized similar to the way you view tracks in the Field Maps mobile app and it has scale dependency set for you as well so it knows when to display track lines vs track points. A nice, new custom pop-up will appear when tapping on tracks as well. We have more updates to come in both the Field Maps web application and in the mobile apps for iOS and Android. The above mentioned enhancements and the new mobile features will be released and available as soon as we squash this Android 12 issue. Apologies for our tardiness. Field Apps team

Hi @Jeff - great question (and great name), I'd like to comment from the perspective of our current, supported implementation of Field Maps but at the same time and very interested in hearing approaches others would see as viable (both connected and disconnected). As you know, with branch versioning, you can only publish the default version - you cannot publish a version that you'd like to edit directly into. When creating a replica (downloading a map area to your device), the feature service will create a version for you and this doc topic describes it well.Even when working disconnected, branch versioning has only 1 level of depth off default to work with. With ArcGIS Field Maps, we have a backlog item to support connected editing against a branch. We envision building this functionality so that the mobile worker does not need to understand or be faced with "versioning" in the UX. However with this capability missing, all edits will be stored directly into the DEFAULT version. I do not have an ETA on when we will implement connected branch versioning at this time unfortunately but it is in our short to mid-term road map. What this means is that you need to consider: 1. Adding an attribute value to manage the state of a feature collected/edited in the field and filter all views where QA/QC has not been performed. 2. Use an alternate approach based upon the data collection/editing needs. For data collection/insert-only based workflows it could be a separate feature layer that is a repository for features that you then merge into your primary layer or perhaps you continue using AGOL and leverage distributed collaboration that is within 10.9.1. Thank you for posting this question and please keep us updated as you progress!

@Scott_Fierro and @MelanyNoltenius - I've been working with the Roads and Highways and ArcGIS Pipeline Referencing team to identify key requirements for inclusion of LRS capabilities within ArcGIS Field Maps. I'd love to get your feedback on the priority of these enhancements. At present I am investigating 2 key enhancement requests: 1. Find nearest measure - from my current location, given a selected route feature. 2. Locate measure - given a selected route feature, enter a measure value and locate the nearest vertex with that measure along the route. Then potentially provide feature actions to navigate to that measure or capture at that measure. If these are of interest to you, please send me a DM and we can connect and discuss. Thanks, Jeff
