Hi Wesley, Another option to investigate is Cartographic Representations - which are stored as a property of the feature class, within the geodatabase. What are representations? Hope this helps,

Hi Jess, Yes, geodatabase replication supports feature-linked annotation and should work with File geodatabases as the child replica. Replication and related data Q) What ArcGIS release are you using? and have you installed all the related patches and service packs? There were several related to geodatabase replication released. Patches and Service Packs for ArcGIS Server (do a search for replication) Hope this helps,

Hi Wesley, Yes, the functionality you are asking about is possible with layer files (.lyr). In ArcMap, define and set the symbology you want for your feature classes, then save each layer as its own layer file. Note that layer files are stored outside the geodatabase. Then have your users add the layer file to their ArcMap instance, instead of adding the feature classes from the geodatabase directly. Setting layer properties Saving layers and layer packages Hope this helps,

Hi Bartek, Just to add onto what Vince posted: For MS Access personal geodatabases and File geodatabases: You can make them read-only within Windows Explorer. Simply right-click the file (.mdb and .gdb, respectively) in Windows Explorer and set its properties to be 'read-only'. For ArcSDE geodatabases: As Vince mentioned, they have a security model based on the DBMS platform they're implemented on. Please review the help documentation: A quick tour of permissions for database servers User groups or roles (for enterprise ArcSDE geodatabases) Hope this helps,

I have been struggling to create the new, decent Shapefiles for Points, Polylines, and Polygons in ArcView v9.3 for quite a while. I read the materials you cited, but I am still not able to get a good start in creating Points, Polylines, and Polygons in ArcView v9.3. To learn about using ArcView - ArcGIS 9.3, I would start with the online tutorials: ArcGIS Desktop Tutorials. An overview of editing and data compilation About creating new features Another suggestion would be to take an ESRI training class. There are many options available, and some content is free. Hope this helps,

A) Unfortunately, the ArcGIS 9.3.1 release of the Geodatabase Toolset (GDBT) does not include the draw/fetch time functionality for ArcMap that was available in previous releases. It only includes functionality for ArcCatalog. Hope this helps,
