Hi Lars, The "Administration" submenu you're looking for is only available when you right-click an ArcSDE geodatabase implemented on SQL Server Express (aka. Personal or Workgroup ArcSDE geodatabases, also collectively referred to as "Database Servers"). This functionality is available because ArcSDE geodatabases implemented on SQL Server Express were designed to be managed within ArcCatalog. What are database servers in ArcGIS? A quick tour of administering database servers Based on what you've described, it sounds like you're working with an Enterprise ArcSDE geodatabase implemented on SQL Server 2005. In which case, some administration is performed within ArcCatalog (e.g., the Analyze option for feature datasets, stand-alone feature classes, and tables), and some is performed within the DBMS management tools. Connections in ArcCatalog to enterprise ArcSDE geodatabases do not have an "Administration" submenu option - so what you are seeing is expected. Hope this helps,

Hi there, You heard correctly. At this time, there is no GDBT release for ArcGIS 10. Please note that the GDBT has always been an unsupported developer sample. ... how can we get this reinstated for the new version? I suggest that you vote for this functionality on the ESRI Ideas.com site. It has already been posted (in several forms) as an enhancement request: 1. Give me a GUI for ArcSDE 2. SDE Dashboard 3. Merge GDBT, MXDPERFSTAT, GDBDesigner, GDBDiagrammer, GDBReporter into ONE extension FYI: one of Jack's ESRI UC preconference questions addressed the GDBT Q: Will the geodatabase toolset become part of core ArcGIS Desktop? Hope this helps,

Hi Kevin, Answer is yes. As Vince mentioned, there were probably some structural changes to the internal geodatabase schemas between 9.4 Beta1 and 10.0 final. This would apply to all types of geodatabases. Hope this helps,

Hi Stephanie, One of these developer samples might address what you're looking for. They enable the creation of a visual "schema-diagram" of the contents of a geodatabase: 1. ArcGIS Diagrammer 9.2/9.3 2. Geodatabase Diagrammer for ArcGIS 9 3. Geodatabase Reporter.NET (9.2) Hope this helps,

Hi Stephanie, Your statement is correct. A File geodatabase can only be edited using ArcGIS Desktop. An MS Access personal geodatabase (which is implemented on an MS Access file) can be edited using Microsoft Access - but is not officially recommended. FYI: if you are going to start a new project, I recommend that you use a File geodatabase over an MS Access personal geodatabase. Please see this ArcUser article, Top 9 Reasons to Use a File Geodatabase Hope this helps,

Hi Jess, Yes, geodatabase replication supports feature-linked annotation and should work with File geodatabases as the child replica. Patches and Service Packs for ArcGIS Server (do a search for replication) Hope this helps,

Hi Wesley, Yes, the functionality you are asking about is possible with layer files (.lyr). In ArcMap, define and set the symbology you want for your feature classes, then save each layer as its own layer file. Note that layer files are stored outside the geodatabase. Then have your users add the layer file to their ArcMap instance, instead of adding the feature classes from the geodatabase directly. Setting layer properties Saving layers and layer packages Hope this helps,

Hi Bartek, Just to add onto what Vince posted: For MS Access personal geodatabases and File geodatabases: You can make them read-only within Windows Explorer. Simply right-click the file (.mdb and .gdb, respectively) in Windows Explorer and set its properties to be 'read-only'. For ArcSDE geodatabases: As Vince mentioned, they have a security model based on the DBMS platform they're implemented on. Please review the help documentation: A quick tour of permissions for database servers User groups or roles (for enterprise ArcSDE geodatabases) Hope this helps,
