Hi J, I do not see that the tools allow for editing data on the map directly, that comes from a Sharepoint List. Please correct me if I am wrong but I only see the edit tools available if feature layers are involved on the map. Yes, you're correct. You can only edit features from a feature service in the Map Web Part. To edit the item in a sharepoint list you have to go through the edit item form, and if that is the only way, then is there a way to add other reference layers to the map presented there? Correct again; to edit items in a SharePoint list, you would do so in the edit item form. To change the base map displayed in the location field of a SharePoint list item, you can edit a file called LocationOnMapStartupMapDocument.xml located in the ArcGIS Mapping Config Files folder. Simply change the referenced map service. This will change the base map displayed in the location field for all of your SharePoint lists. Hope this helps,

Hi Brian, Unfortunately this functionality is not part of ArcGIS for SharePoint's design. It might be possible via custom development (i.e. perhaps as an ArcMap Add -In or ArcGIS Server Object Extension). Hope this helps,

Hi Jefferson, ArcGIS for SharePoint comes with a list, ArcGIS Mapping Base Maps, that is used to configure the Basemap gallery. SharePoint users with read/write permissions on this list can add, remove, and edit the basemaps in the Basemap gallery by manipulating the items in this list. Hope this helps,

Hi Tyler, I would like to experiment with using ESRI's Sharepoint API to leverage some of the resources in our Sharepoint site but don't know where to get started. Would I primarily use the Silverlight Viewer for development or would I have to build a viewer from the ground up? Any additional tips or resources that I can use to quickly get started will be greatly appreciated. I would start with the ArcGIS for SharePoint Resource Center. You can the download the software, read online help documentation, and get Developer samples. ArcGIS for SharePoint includes a configurable, interactive Map Web Part which provides GIS and mapping capabilities on SharePoint pages. It contains very similar capabilities as the ArcGIS Viewer for Silverlight, so you should start there. No, you do not have to create a viewer from scratch. FYI, there is also a FREE Esri live training seminar available: Embedding ArcGIS into SharePoint Hope this helps,

Hi Brian, Good catch on an error in the help documentation. 🙂 You're right, the screenshot is incorrect. It shows functionality in a beta build that is not included in the 2.1 final release. To be clear, you do not have the ability to change base maps, nor use full screen when editing a geocoded location. We are working to correct this error in the help doc ASAP. Hope this helps,

Hi Adam, When you start to roll out localizations for the Viewer, can a single Viewer switch between multiple languages? ... Will there be a supported workflow for switching languages within the Viewer? "No" to both questions. This is not supported. The recommended procedure to create an application that supports multiple languages is: First build the app in one language. Xcopy the app into separate virtual directories for each language. In each language app, go to the Culture\<lang> folder and copy its contents and paste in the root directory of the application, overwriting existing files. Create a page that redirects to the respective language application depending on either the user???s choice or by detecting the browser culture. What is the role of the .xml configuration files in the Culture subfolders? It simply contains and stores language files used by the Silverlight Viewer. Finally, how would multiple localizations effect Add-In tools? Would my Add-In assembly need its own localization logic and language resource files? In order for an "Add-In" to support multiple cultures, it should use the standard .NET localization procedure of creating resource assemblies for each supported language. Hope this helps,

Hi George, Did you do a complete uninstall of the Silverlight Viewer beta 2 release, before installing final? Some other things to check for: - Did you remove both the Builder and Apps folders in the inetpub/wwwroot directory (in case they did not get removed by the beta 2 uninstall)? - Ensure that both the Builder and Apps folders are no longer registered with IIS? Hope this helps,

@Iain: As far as we know, you should be able to download the ArcGIS Viewer for Silverlight software without issue. I just tested it now and it works. Can you please try again? @Blair: We pulled the download for the Extensibility SDK to make a minor correction to the download package. It should be available sometime tomorrow. Sorry for the delay. Hope this helps,
