New ArcGIS Monitor customer story in ArcWatch featuring the City of Seguin, Texas. With ArcGIS Monitor, IT staff can view the performance of each individual service, and also increase or decrease their instances depending on how and when they are being used. When a server is being taxed, IT staff can see immediately with the ArcGIS Monitor interface what might be causing performance issues and take action to correct issues based on those metrics. Monitor has become an integral part of their enterprise GIS. Monitoring the City via ArcWatch.

On Oct 16, the first ArcGIS Monitor User Group meeting was held. The topic was a discussion on leveraging analysis views in Monitor. Joe Guzi from Stark County GIS, OH and Joel Lopez from Halff, discuss how they use analysis views in ArcGIS Monitor to help manage their Enterprise GIS deployments. This is an intermediate-level presentation. Prior knowledge of ArcGIS Enterprise and ArcGIS Monitor is recommended. ArcGIS Monitor User Group Meeting 1 - Analysis Views Webinar attendee submitted questions & answers: Q1: Does Monitor require 2 servers? One for Monitor and one for the PostgreSQL database? A1: You can deploy ArcGIS Monitor Server and the ArcGIS Monitor database (e.g. the PostgreSQL database) on the same machine. Please ensure the machine has adequate system resources. If you are collecting data from many components, then the ArcGIS Monitor database size may become large and deploying ArcGIS Monitor Server and the ArcGIS Monitor database on two separate machines might be more appropriate. Q2: When are we going to see the user license info like in Monitor 10.8.x? Can we monitor the ArcGIS License Manager in Monitor 2024? A2: This functionality is not currently available in ArcGIS Monitor 2024. Please vote for the feature enhancement on the ArcGIS Monitor Ideas forum on Esri Community. This will help us prioritize the request as we work on future releases. Ability to monitor ArcGIS License Server in Monitor 2023 Q3: In Monitor 2024.x it appears an agent must be installed on each ArcGIS Server instance. In an AWS auto-scaling environment is it a best practice to install Monitor agent on the machine that will be used to create the updated AMI and Enterprise will recognize the instance when it comes online due to a scaling event? A3. Supporting this workflow is possible with some custom scripts and configurations, but not available out of the box with ArcGIS Monitor. Q4: Is the ArcGIS Monitor 2024.0.1 patch available for Linux? I see the 2024.0.1 patch downloads for Windows on MyEsri, but when downloading the install for Linux, it is still 2024.0. A4. Yes, there will be an ArcGIS Monitor 2024.0.1 patch for Linux. It will be released in early November 2024. Q5: Where can we find templates to help beginners set up analysis views? A5. At the ArcGIS Monitor 2024.0 release, it includes two new sample analysis views to help new users get started. One focused on Enterprise portals and ArcGIS Servers, the other focused on infrastructure. Q6: Does monitor now support qualitative information in the email notifications? Instead of a code and a link? A6: We are actively working on improving the content in email notifications for the ArcGIS Monitor 2024.1 release. Q7: Are there any plans to support ArcGIS Monitor deployments and upgrades through IaC like Chef or PowerShell DSC? A7: This is currently not supported. Please vote for the feature enhancement on the ArcGIS Monitor Ideas forum on Esri Community. This will help us prioritize the request as we work on future releases. Support fully automated installation & configuration of ArcGIS Monitor & remote Agents Q8: There are a lot of log components within ArcGIS Enterprise, e.g. Portal, Data Store, Server & IIS/Tomcat. Are there any plans to create an amalgamated view of these logs through ArcGIS Monitor? A8: This is currently not supported. Please submit a feature enhancement on the ArcGIS Monitor Ideas forum on Esri Community. Other use can vote for this and it will help us prioritize the request as we work on future releases. Q9: Will I have to re-setup my Analysis when updating from 2023.x to 2024.x? A9: No, you should be able to upgrade from Monitor 2023.x to 2024.x and the analysis views you have configured will remain unchanged. Q10: Can I use SSO (like Okta) for profiles on Monitor? A10: This is currently not supported. Please vote for the feature enhancement on the ArcGIS Monitor Ideas forum on Esri Community. This will help us prioritize the request as we work on future releases. Support AD or LDAPS identity stores Q11: Would you say a regular GIS Analyst can set this up or do we need an IT to support? A11: Yes, we have several customers using ArcGIS Monitor and they are GIS Analysts and not IT staff. The help documentation can help you get started, Get started with ArcGIS Monitor. Please also see question 12. Q12: What is your recommendation for the people who are just starting to use Monitor? A12: Some resources to start learning about ArcGIS Monitor, ArcGIS Monitor: An Overview – Esri UC 2024 technical session video ArcGIS Monitor: Techniques for Analyzing Common Operational Scenarios – Esri Dev Summit 2024 technical session video Getting Started with ArcGIS Monitor blog Q13: Can ArcGIS Monitor report the same metrics for ArcGIS Online as it does for Portal (Users, Items, etc.)? A13: ArcGIS Monitor is designed and meant to be used with ArcGIS Enterprise only. ArcGIS Online offers its own set of admin and reporting capabilities. Please vote for the feature enhancement on the ArcGIS Monitor Ideas forum on Esri Community. ArcGIS Online Health in ArcGIS Monitor

Hi @Justin_Greco,
Thanks for attending the ArcGIS Monitor user group meeting today. > I heard on the ArcGIS Monitor webinar today that version 2024.0.1 of ArcGIS Monitor is available, however, only see that it is available for download on My Esri for Windows.
Your statement is correct. Right now, only the ArcGIS Monitor 2024.0.1 patch for Windows is available for download. Unfortunately, we ran into a small issue with the patch for Linux and have been working to fix it.
The ArcGIS Monitor 2024.0.1 patch for Linux will be available for download on Nov 5. We apologize for the delay and thank you for your patience. Hope this helps,

Hi @KirkChesla, > So are you saying if my Portal server, arcgis server, hosted server and datastore server (all separate servers) are on the same network that you do not need to install agents on each server? This statement was true for ArcGIS Monitor 2023.x, but changed with the ArcGIS Monitor 2024.0 release.
Starting at ArcGIS Monitor 2024.0, we now require you to install ArcGIS Monitor Agent on each of the four machines that host "Portal server, arcgis server, hosted server and datastore server". Hope this helps,

In the ArcGIS Monitor 2024.0 release, a new workflow was added to make it easier to compare metrics of similar type components. For example, comparisons between hosts, ArcGIS Server sites, or web services. With a few clicks, you can create a new analysis view without having to configure a new dataview query. This capability is helpful for quickly comparing metrics of similar component types.
