Hi Catarina, > As you can read in my question we already did that... My impression from your original post was that you had only initially explored ArcGIS Online, but had not created an app yet. What app option did you use: the configurable application templates or Web AppBuilder? > we'd like the Webapp to appear with less zoom, I mean, show both the USA & Europe coast + UK + Iceland for example, instead of showing just the Belgian coast. The map display extent is meant to be dynamic, but you can define spatial bookmarks in the ArcGIS Online map viewer. In Web AppBuilder, you can also limit the scale that an be zoomed to - this setting is found on the Map tab. > Yes the aim is to click so the layer appears; we have quite many, so it's confusing/useless to have them all at the same time. As Rickey said in his post, you can control when the layers appear in the map display by clicking them on/off in the table of contents of the web map in the ArcGIS Online map viewer. In Web AppBuilder, you can further control when layers appear with the LayerList widget. Hope this helps,

Hi Catarina, First, you'll need to create an ArcGIS Online account. You should check with your university if they might already have an ArcGIS Online organization you can join, or you can create a free 60-day trial account: http://www.arcgis.com/features/free-trial.html?origin=arcgis To start creating web apps, I suggest you start here: Make your first app—ArcGIS Online Help | ArcGIS ArcWatch | Create Web Apps Rapidly Using Web AppBuilder for ArcGIS Hope this helps,

Hi Ben, I suspect you're logging into ArcGIS Online with a Public account and not an ArcGIS Online organizational account. You should be able to see the 'My Organization' link after you've signed into www.arcgis.com. You don't need to go to My Esri.com. Please contact Esri Customer Service 1 (888) 377-4575; they can probably help sort out your licensing confusion. Hope this helps,

Hi Chandra, Oracle 12c was released later than ArcSDE 10.2.1, so I'm not sure if it will be fully compatible. As I mentioned earlier, we haven't promoted using the "ArcSDE service model" in several releases so you don't need to install the ArcSDE software. To understand the difference between the "ArcSDE service model" and the "direct connect model", please see this older technical article, 1-Enterprise Geodatabase 101 (see the section titled Type of Client Connections) This should help clarify the 2 connection models. Hope this helps,

Hi Chandra, As a general rule, we don't support installing different releases of the ArcGIS software on the same machine. In your case, the ArcSDE service 10.2.1 on a machine that already has ArcGIS Server 10.4 installed. This is NOT recommended. Hope this helps,

Hi Penny, I realize this thread is a few months old, but thought I would add some additional info about ArcGIS Online and Portal for ArcGIS. Esri's software strategy is the idea of "Web GIS", a pattern for delivering GIS capabilities. One of the key concepts behind web GIS is that all members of an organization can easily access and use geographic information within a collaborative environment. Analysts still provide technical GIS expertise in the traditional sense, but other staff in the organization with little or no GIS knowledge can also benefit from and contribute to the organization's GIS platform. Web GIS leverages existing GIS investments and makes them discoverable and more accessible. It provides a platform for integrating GIS with other business systems and promotes cross-organizational collaboration. Consequently, web GIS extends the reach of GIS to everyone in an organization, enabling better decision making. Implementing Web GIS | ArcNews You can deploy "Web GIS" in the cloud using ArcGIS Online, or in your own infrastructure using Portal for ArcGIS (a component of ArcGIS Enterprise/ArcGIS for Server). As others have stated previously, the ArcGIS API for JavaScript is an API that enables you to develop custom client apps that consume and work with GIS resources (typically web services) in the "Web GIS". Hope this helps,
