More interesting to see user's response. For me, requiring a Portal is a 100% barrier to switching to Pro. Our experience with PTL, is, that it sure is "bling bling", but it's not a reliable platform given the resources we can afford to maintain it, the security constraints placed on running it, and dependency on version compliance. If our ability to use a desktop product relies on an enterprise product that itself is not reliable, use of the desktop product is not realistic.

Wow. Yes. Thousands of them. Agree, excessive generation of temp files is not sustainable with a large number of users.

The solution is...not require a server to be Federated to Portal when publishing from Pro. Be sure to vote on https://community.esri.com/ideas/12258

If these issues aren't present in ArcMap, but are present in Pro, how did they suddenly become "network" issues?

I'm running a machine well in excess of the minimum, and I too am puzzled by how Pro seems to do many things much slower than Arc. For example, changing symbology where the data is coming from SDE makes Pro so slow as to be unusable. Each change to a symbology property recalls all of the data from the SDE. This is not the case in ArcMap, where any change to the exact same SDE-sourced symbology is instantly reflected.

Ahhhh it does...but the space bar is the more commonly used input (among several) to change state. Having to flex your hand to reach the escape key on a qwerty keyboard, especially if you're accidentally activating the info box, slows things down. Interestingly enough, while escape closes the info box when activated by tab-space, using the mouse pointer does not.... I'm willing to bet there's not an event tied to the "x" when the box is opened in this mode..... Prior to wrist surgery, I once brought a laptop to the surgeon and they wired up my wrist and arm while I used Arc for about an hour. "Off the charts" they said, then started slicing.....

Then similar to this option: there should be an option to disable the Pro info pop up in a GP Tool UI. The amount of tabbing for a GP tool with many inputs is excessive. I could argue, from an accessibility point of view, excessive wrist/finger movements is equally unwelcome. While we're on topic...there appears to be no way to get out of a Pro info pop up when using tab/space? Am I missing something? First tab-> Space: The entire info box has focus: Second tab: the close button has focus: Same behavior for a warning: at this point, space, tab, enter, any key, in fact, does not close the box. The default behavior should be the space bar will close the box while the "x" has focus. While I'm here..... Activating the info box the normal way, by clicking in the input field, allows one to select all -> copy the text in the box...sort of....the box fades away so you have to be fast! Activating the info box using tab->space....copy and select all is disabled: But wait there's more: With mouse focus on one input, the info icon appears, yet remains when tabbing to another input field, which may be expected behavior....

In Arcmap, in a GP tool dialogue, pressing the tab key correctly tabs, in order, from, e.g, a string input, to a folder path. Tab Order: In Pro, the tab order includes the asterisk /info dohickies, which requires one to double-tab into the next string input:

Some arrangement of cookies, browser history tracking, and pop-up ads resulted in the following this morning while I was perusing my morning news feed. Not photoshopped....... I was going to work on migrating my ArcMap python scripts to Pro today, but I'm not sure if I should be laughing for the rest of the day, or pondering why my browsing history and choice of career resulted in Adsense thinking the above image would convince me to buy a Pro class. I see the "Migrating to ArcGIS Pro" ad all over the place, especially in social media. Curious to see if there's any other "mis-placed" ad placement......

The problem with the field calculator solution is that is a one-time, static operation. The idea behind a data driven map production is that maps, production schedules, extents, etc... can all be automated based on changes to the data. So if the OP has constantly changing data where map production is based on a query to the shape field, having to stop and do a field calculation slows things down/breaks the automation. Granted, this is an enhancement request, but a handy one. I use Shape(area) as an input to some of my production mapping scripts.

Many of us are in the same boat. Unfortunately, Collector only allows you to provision the device as well as download data using WiFi, which eliminates Collector as an ArcPad replacement for 90% of users. Think about where most of us do our mobile data collection: far from any wifi or cell signal. Putting a SDE database outside the firewall just so you can hit it with Collector over Wifi isn't very realistic either. Adding USB sync seems like a simple enough fix, you can do it with a stand-alone app using the Mobile SDK, ESRI is silent on why they feel Wifi should be the only connection method.

Hate to break this to ya...your Trimble is right behind Arc Pad on it’s way to Jurassic Park.....even if there was an ArcPad add in for Pro there’s no way for the Pro architecuture to “talk” to the prehistoric OS that is running on the Trimble.
