So this idea clearly is in the realm of fantasy but the title will get some votes for sure: Sure would be handy if I could select a layer that's in one map, and send it to another, or many maps. Yes I know there's all kinds of python doo hickeys and GP tools that might do the same thing, but I'm thinking speed and efficiency. While I'm dreaming, added another idea in the screen shot too....

Further context: Why is ArcGIS Pro not allowing me to rename favorites? I'm using a template created with Pro 2.1.x, and my folder alias's stick. But if I have to make new templates in 2.2.x.....

If I already have many many maps, the "drop" part of the drag doesn't work until I get to the "empty space" below the list of map, which, on a small laptop screen is a PITA. Yes I can drag it on top of "Maps" in contents, but that doesn't seem intuitive because I "could" previously drag into the maps container in Cat View while there was still space to do so. Also note I can't drag anything unless I already have an existing default map, as the maps container isn't activated until a map exists in the project, also not intuitive nor makes any sense to the novice user, whom is not going to be reading any documentation. Think beyond your skills and experience, or mine with this idea. Many users we support are "novice" and only use GIS software for a portion of their work day. Intuitive.....

- delete the web layer from portal definitely isn't ideal, especially when you have itemid dependency. What authentication mode? I feel like I would have noticed this, using SAML....

Imagine someone needs all of your maps NOW! I can blast my entire project to a thumb drive, or I could: Where each mapx file would simply be named the same as the map..... I am often making a small change to many layouts or maps at a time, then having to share each one, one by one to its production environment. For example, the print templates we use in our custom print service, folks are always finding some error and I have to update and re-share all the layouts again. I feel like I should be able to highlight 2 or more layouts and share them all at once, and the file name would just be the name of the layout, which is usually the case.

Update: Per https://community.esri.com/thread/208657-copying-maps-from-one-pro-project-to-another it looks like this is possible, BUT, only if you drag it to the "white space" at the bottom of your list of maps. If you have a lot of maps where you have to scroll to get the "white space" at the bottom of the maps container in cat view, this doesn't work. Also doesn't work if you're on 15 inch laptop and your resolution just doesn't show any white space at the bottom of a list of many maps. Changing resolution is not an option for vision impaired and therefor is not a workaround. So my idea still stands!

Yes, I know I can go through the laborious steps of saving a map as a mapx and bringing it into another project. Or I could... Kinda surprised this doesn't already exists

So I had a little booboo last week where I cranked out a bunch of maps in WGS84 instead of UTM. Oopsie. If only the following existed... Also handy if you have two of same map, but each in different coordinate system...yes, I know I can write meta data and open it and look at it.....

So lets say someone just handed you a thumb drive with, say, 100 maps exported from Pro. You could add them all to the project folder, or you could... Yes, I'm aware there are other ways to get a mapx file into the project -> Layout. Hence "Enhancement". Anything to reduce mouse clicks, of which using Pro requires many.

When you spend 7 days, 20 hours per day using Pro, and getting frustrated with it, one comes up with all sorts of great ideas: I recently had to deal with a lot of maps and a lot of layouts simultaneously, and make many and rapid changes to some or all of them, or direct others to do so, or send them to various production outputs. By my math, I could have been doing 18 hours per day if: From the Catalog View, I could drag a map to a (new and not-open) layout that I just spooled up in Catalog Pane by copying and pasting it. Yes, I know I can open a layout and specify a map to use (as long as it's in the project) or drag the map over to it. Yes, I know I can use map series, but not in this particular situation. The situation I had was, I'm generating a bunch of layouts based on a specific template. Each layout is going to get a different (but similar) map. Perhaps each one just has a different extent, or definition query on some vector data. Opening 20-30 layouts and specifying which map each gets kinda slowed me down. This is only valid if the layout contains no map. Thing will get squirrelly when you start adding multiple maps and map frames to a single layout using this "drag" method.

You'll do fine with the processor, IMHO it's # of cores, not clock speed, that makes the difference in Pro. Before you make your next house/car payment, skip it and bump that RAM up to 64 GB! I'm learning that the "Can I run it" (Pro) app is a bit misleading. We had a TS case where the outcome was "The minimum just means that Pro will start". I had a bit of an urgent situation last week where I had to get IT do dig my new laptop out of the shipping warehouse to meet an immediate need: Pro on a 4 core I7 and 8 GB of RAM simply would not even complete the simplest of mapping tasks, even with all offline data. And again, my opinion, you're gonna hate that video card. Should have at least a 4GB dedicated NVIDIA. Even with this: I'm finding that Pro is sluggish, ramps up to 65% CPU just trying (and failing) to open a layout, frequently bogs down, and, I'm discovering, the thermal fan vent on my new laptop is on the right side, where I drive the mouse: I'm literally being burned by Pro. Here's running two instances of Pro: 1 is just "sitting" there, 1 I made the foolish mistake of opening 3 layouts at once. If anything, upgrade your HDD to one of those class 40 or 50 NVRAM Doo-hickeys. Fast. Like a Kangaroo.....I got one of these for the laptop: https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/samsung-sm961-ssd,4608.html. The 2.5 " form factor SSD's are so...legacy!

There is a very fundamental problem with this idea: feature services are the backbone of this framework. I don't see any mention of being able to create a disconnected offline copy of a SDE geodatabase to a file geodatabase. It appears that ArcGIS Server will be required to implement offline editing in the Pro environment, which is the exact opposite of customer requirements and what is being repeated in many GN threads. I have no doubt there are advantages to web services architecture, but there are costs and barriers to implementing web and GIS servers that many of your customers will never be able to overcome. There's a lot of daylight between what you believe are inherent advantages in a services architecture, and what customer business requirements are. There is no dispute that Data as a Service via web architecture is the greatest thing in the world and the sync capabilities in ArcGIS Server are smoother, more reliable, and offer more capability, but the interpretation of your blog post here is, once Arc Map is put to bed, if you want to edit SDE data offline, you need to put an ArcGIS Server in front of it. I really hope ESRI hears this: Not everyone can stand up an ArcGIS Server in order to continue their offline enterprise GDB workflows. Nor do most folks have the capacity to publish every SDE feature class as a service. My ratio is out of 10 SDE feature classes only one of those is allocated the incredibly expensive access to a GIS server. So, many of continue to seek an answer to this question: With Pro, and Arc Map out of the support picture (2022? 3?): Will Pro users and DBA's be able to, using ArcGIS Pro, connect to a SDE database and create a local copy for editing as they can with ArcMap without ArcGIS Server in the picture?
