I'm sorry for the late reply. No, not yet. We're working on it! I can't give you a firm date or release yet. Melita

Sorry, late reply. Try setting NAD_1983_To_WGS_1984_1 via the environment (or the Project Tool) instead. It's basically a null transformation.

You can use the Project Tool if it's vector data or the Project Raster Tool. There's a geographic/datum transformation that converts between DGN 1995 and WGS 1984. You can also project the data on-the-fly in a map or scene. Are these not working for you? If not, are you getting any warnings or error messages? Melita

The tool writes to the user profile because it knows it has permission to write there. Connected to that, the Esri projection engine (which handles the transformations) has to know where to look for the files. You question doesn't come up very often so we haven't looked at a way to set a generic location for the files. There's an alternative way to define custom transformations and coordinate systems using a system environment variable. It would need to be enabled on each machine being used, but the files can be stored in a single location. Please send me an email, mkennedy at esri dot com and I'll send you a document that describes it. It's useful if you have a lot of custom objects that can't be added to the core software. This method also gives the objects well-known IDs. Melita

If I still had my least squares textbook from grad school, I'd send it to you! I follow a surveyor's forum and they've discussed least squares a few times. I think you can access the threads without having a login. It's not a big deal if you do decide to create a login. It's a personally run website, and they won't spam you. For instance, Least squares spreadsheet Getting Started with Least Squares They're not doing the same problem as they're solving for traverses, etc. but you certainly may find some references to code or good textbooks. I may be misunderstanding. You need several points and then you need to do a least squares fit to derive the transformation parameters.

I have never heard of a datum / geographic coordinate system (GCS) being called NR. My guess would be some sort of "not known". If you have overlapping data using NR and another GCS, you could check if the data is generally offset in the same direction. That might help you to determine what GCS the NR data is really using. There's no way to override / replace the algorithm in the existing tools or functionality. You would have to write an add-in. Melita

We are using Vincenty with some adaptions for near-antipodal cases for distance/geodesic line calculations. We are aware of Karney's publications and may switch to his at some point in the future. Melita

When you reprojected the image, what tool did you use? The Define Projection Tool or the Project Raster tool? I would expect OSM data to be in either 4326 / WGS84 or 3857 / Web Mercator (also known as WGS 1984 Web Mercator Auxiliary Sphere in ArcGIS), not in 32648 / WGS84 UTM 48N. Melita

I don't think we're that close to growing out of SDCC. Comicon has >100k. Admittedly, there are different purposes, but they have a lot of presentations. It felt busy, but not super-crowded to me, but I wasn't up in the presentation areas very much. I've been to a few comicons though which is probably biasing my outlook! Melita

Is it off by approximately 2-3 feet? If so, that sounds like the transformation that occurred with it was published in Web Mercator is not the same one that's being used in Pro to transform it back to NAD83. Try both of these: NAD_1983_To_WGS_1984_1 WGS_1984_(ITRF00)_To_NAD_1983 The first one assumes that NAD83 and WGS84 are equivalent. The 2nd one is the default one that AGOL is probably using. Melita

There's no predefined projected coordinate system specific to this area. There are some arctic zones which might work and a pacific-centered (look under continental or world) PCS but its center would be offset relative to your area of interest. As Bojan said, you will probably want to permanently project the data into the PCS you want to use and then you'll have to fix the polygons. Melita

When you project the shapefile, does the tool set a geographic/datum transformation? Export to CAD probably isn't and it doesn't look like it supports the geoprocessing environment for setting a default transformation. You could try that anyway--use the same transformation as the Project tool and see if it gives you the correct result. Melita
