Hi Alexander, I just finished our 10.8.1 to 10.9 upgrade as well, but I did not run this step. In fact, I only ran the configuredatastore step at the very beginning of our Enterprise, at 10.6. I have not run this step since then. We have the relational data store as primary on one server, and a tile cache as it's own primary on a second server. When both data store installs finish, I then started and completed the post install for the relational store followed by the post install for the tile cache (default primary-standby mode). I then tested that both data stores remained registered with the hosting site. Since both data stores tested as registered, I considered those upgrades complete. Since then, I have written and overwritten hosted feature services and vector tile services. I always thought that once the datastore was configured that re-running the configuredatastore was optional

This behavior reads exactly like this bug from the "Portal for ArcGIS Security 2018 1 Update Patch" : BUG-000108155 - Endless generateToken requests are triggered in map viewer when token expires for a Portal configured with Integrated Windows Authentication (IWA) and federated with ArcGIS Server. As we also use IWA Active Directory. I found another related "Invalid Token" Geonet Post here: https://community.esri.com/t5/arcgis-enterprise-questions/invalid-token/td-p/598822 Where @JacobDeuel asked: "I am currently running 10.6.1 and I am getting a bunch of errors related to tokens. Everything still works but it is super slow. Is there a patch like this for version 10.6.1?" Server machine 'https://URL:7443/arcgis/sharing/rest/community/self' returned an error. 'Invalid token.' @JonathanQuinn replied that Is that entry logged under DEBUG? If so, it can be ignored. We're working on cleaning up those types of messages. But like @JacobDeuel , the entries are logged under WARNING. It is the same REST error and probably will require a security patch as well.

Are you able to access the portal's web app builder at all? Can you create new web apps? Or is it only existing web apps that will not open from the app overview page>EditApplication? If you still cannot edit the app, you could try is this: Get the item id of one of your portal hosted WABs. Go into the portals content items folder and search for the item: D:\arcgisportal\content\items\your_long_id_item_number The first file in the 'your_long_id_item_number' folder is the json config file for the wab application. I have an existing application I built at Enterprise version 10.6.1. The very top of the json config file looks like this: {"theme":{"name":"FoldableTheme","styles":["blue","default","black","cyan","green","purple","red","yellow"],"version":"2.8", . . . it looks to me like the pair "version":"2.x" may be missing from your config. Maybe you had a custom theme? So depending on when you built your apps in the Portal Web App Builder will determine what version it is. For Enterprise 10.6.1 it was version 2.8. For the latest 10.9 Enterprise the wab version is 2.19 https://developers.arcgis.com/web-appbuilder/guide/about-versions.htm Maybe that will work, I don't know. I've never tried.....

Hello - our 10.8.1 upgrade to 10.9 went well. We have a distributed deployment with separate web, portal, hosting and federated sites on Windows 2016 VM machines. I have re-shared everything I can think of from Living Atlas, Routing, Geocoding services. No issues with our web adaptors, no 'bounce' from DNS alias to machine names, so problems with the web context url. No problem with the 'arcgisonline' redirect uri's. The Monitor Administrator returns valid tokens when testing the portal and the hosting and federated sites, whether using the web adaptor site names or the internal DNS names. Everything that is supposed to be publically accessible is. However, we are getting an error that I had not seen since 10.6 from the hosting site: Rest - Exception in get user privileges Server machine 'https://myDNSServerName:7443/arcgis/sharing/rest/community/self' returned an error. 'Invalid token.' Honestly, if I did not have Monitor installed I probably would not have noticed since there is no impact to any of my hosted services that I can tell so far, but the logging is excessive (100s and 1000s of entries) . Very similar to the reply from @danweiss from this old post here: https://community.esri.com/t5/arcgis-enterprise-portal/arcgis-portal-server-exception-setting-ownership-role/td-p/626444 Any suggestions anyone? @JonEmch @JonathanQuinn @Kathleen_Crombez

Hi @Kathleen_Crombez - wanted to let you know that while the update did take me 14 hours, it went well. Portal and it's web adaptor took 5 - 6 hours, and then our 2 hosting servers and web adaptor took about 3 hours each. I would say the time was about 2 hours for the software upgrade, then an hour each for the post upgrade. Both our relational and tile cache stores updated in under an hour (thankfully I could do those in parallel). Then our federated site that hosts an image server role was fast, about 35 minutes per machine. Once that was complete I reinstalled the Web Styles and Map Viewer for 10.9 Field Maps must be un-installed, and then it's new version installs with the 10.9 portal exe. Everything is functioning so far, the Patch Notification tool on portal has a hiccup. I did have to re-share some Living Atlas content, and I definently had to run the 'update' process from Portal Admin system properties for to re-establish the the web context : https://myportal:7443/arcgis/portaladmin/system/properties/update Otherwise, my admin and token generation DNS urls 'bounced' back to the machine name prefixes

Thanks @JonEmch - yes I can confirm that no value pair is needed there and that the Portal upgrade from 10.8.1 to 10.9 has thus far been been successful, with the exception of the patch notification tool. It is throwing a 'No URL' error. Field Maps app works, Map Viewer Beta works. Web Styles updated.

Hmm. I do see that I actually did mention we use McAffee in an earlier reply. So you went from Cisco to Sophos and even after you set up the exe and process exclusions Sophos still killed SOC processes? Wow. In our case, McAffee will sometimes orphan a SOC. Or a SOC could be orphaned from a Nessus port scan process (that's a weekly thing our IT does). The interesting thing in our case is that I can go in and stop the ArcServer exe and the SOC processes will sometimes still show as running. But for McAffee this has thus far been a fairly rare (2-3 times a year?) occurrence. Yes, your last paragraph here would certainly be helpful - I am moving to 10.9 on Sunday. I'll keep you posted. If you hadn't seen my post on Map Viewer and Field maps on whether or not they should be un-installed first: https://community.esri.com/t5/arcgis-enterprise-questions/fieldmaps-for-arcgis-at-enterprise-10-9/td-p/1055846 I also just posted a question here https://community.esri.com/t5/arcgis-enterprise-portal/portal-license-file-and-field-maps/td-p/1060527 where I am not seeing Field Maps in the 10.9 license file json

Yeah ok so none of that worked at 10.8.1 beta and won't work now. I'm sure you've figured this out already, but for straight up dynamic map services, you (or at least I did) have to add your layers to the beta's TOC one layer at a time from the rest url, (i.e /0, /1 etc) unless you have feature access enabled. Feature access enabled on the service allows you to add the layer like a hosted layer.
