Can someone provide a code sample which queries features in a WMS layer in ArcMap? All I need to know is if the layer contains any map features. Thanks!

Can someone provide a code snippet to add a map service to ArcMap? In addition, the map service contains many layers. I just want to add a few of the many layers. How can I do this? Thanks!

A globeservice will give you the best performance, but it does require you to build a full cache before you can use the service. DEM data published as an image service can also be used as elevation. In this mode the elevation is genereated on demand, and you may see surface seams and spikes, as the data is pulled in and rendered. This data is not cached, so it will do this every time you use the service. Which way is best, really depends on the use case. For an elevation "basemap" used by many users a fully cached globeservice is probably worth the investment. You can also use the image service elevation in addition to the globeservice.. the elevation layer on "top" is the one that gets used for display. Mark Thanks for your response. It sounds like we should build cache w/ globe service. You mention using both in one scenario. This is where you may want to view the elevation data as well as use the values? You mean use the globe for the DEM values and the image service for display? Thanks!

I have SRTM elevation data which I would like to use in ArcGIS Explorer. What is the best way to consume this data in ArcGIS Explorer? 1) 2d Image Service? 2) Globe Service? Is caching the whole dataset required? Thanks! http://srtm.usgs.gov/index.php Does Esri have a recommendation as to the best practice for serving DEM data to ArcGIS Explorer 3D view? Is this somewhere in the on-line help? Thanks!

This is a resolution issue with the graphics display when zoomed in close, it does not affect the measurement, the clicked coorinates are used for the measure. Mark Thanks for your response. It is good to know that the measurement is correct. In order to fix the display, is this a known bug/issue which will get resolved with ArcGIS Explorer. Do I need to submit this as an issue or user enhancement request? The measure tool functionality is critical to our customers workflows. Thanks!

I tried to use this map http://www.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=b71e06bddd5d448382cc3732299e9e36 to reproduce the problem. Do you see the same problem when you use this map? Mark We do not have access to the Internet. We do not have this problem with ArcMap or other clients; just with ArcGIS Explorer. Thanks.

What happens when you right-click on the image service layer and choose Refresh? Or, click on the Manage Layers button, choose your image service layer and then hit the Clear Cache button. Or, click on the orb in the upper left-hand corner of the application, click on the ArcGIS Explorer Options button at the bottom of the dialog window, click on the Advanced button in the TOC on the left side, click on the Delete All Caches button in the middle of the window under Cache Management options. Clearing the local cache will resolve the issue for a fuzzy tile, but we continue to get many fuzzy tiles. This is not an end solution.

Thanks for the response. We are not consuming any basemaps from the Internet. Clients do not have Internet access; all services are hosted on the Intranet. I've included some pictrues to help illustrate this problem. see attached. In addition, we do not experience this issue with ArcMap or ArcGlobe. It appears ArcGIS Explorer stops loading the tiles. How can we fix this? Thanks for your help!

We are seeing image services that do not fully load. They remain fuzzy or pixelated. This does not occur for every request, but very frequently. It is not dependent upon an individual service, i.e. the same service will load correctly sometimes and other times, will not fully load. We do not have this problem with ArcMap. All of our services are hosted locally with ArcGIS Server 10. What steps should we take to investigate the problem and ultimatley resolve it? Thanks!

The measure tool and other map tools do not appear to work correctly with some DEM layers. At a certain scale, it appears these map tools will use the DEM. Is there a way to turn off this feature and use these tools without the DEM? Thanks! Does a user need file system access to imagery files participating in a mosaic dataset or does ArcSDE stream the pixed across the network? For example, is ArcMap access the file directly across the network? Is a mosaic dataset just a look-up table whereby users eventually just access it directly? Thanks.
