This issue used to occur with an ArcMap based custom print service published to AGS. I don't know if the same bug applies, but you had to set the default printer on the server machine running the printing service to be larger than the largest custom print size in your app. I will try to find the ArcMap page showing this bug and how to fix it. Maybe you can perform a google search for a similar issue with a Pro based custom print service.

Can you not do a weekly truncate (delete all existing features) and append of the entire SDE feature class and not worry about duplicate creation by appending to an existing SDE feature class?

Are you using SDE data through the VPN? My org tried this but is was unworkably slow. The solution for my org was to Remote Desktop back to the machine with Pro instead of using VPN.

Thank for responding Tanu' I get the error message "Error executing tool. Export Web Map : There is no map frame in the template named 'WEBMAP_MAP_FRAME'" Does this mean that the main map frame in the Pro layout template used to display services in the web app needs to have the name "WEBMAP_MAP_FRAME' in order for printing to be successful? Is this true for both standalone server as well as a federated server?

I am working on migrating a custom print service on a standalone ArcGIS Server from ArcMap to Pro and have run into a few problems. 1.) Although the documentation says I should be able to overwrite the Pro based print service, I keep getting the error message that the print service name exists and I need to give the print service a new name. Anyone else encounter this error message? 2.) I want to just import my complete ArcMap templates into Pro to create layouts so I do not have to redo work that is already done. This process works for some layouts, but other layouts with items such as Overview maps are generating errors when used in a web app. Has anyone encountered any issues such as this? 3.) Is the best, but most time consuming solution, to create layouts from scratch in Pro instead of using what had previously worked from ArcMap?

In a print service created from ArcMap, I just need to add a template mxd to the registered folder and stop and start the service for a new template to show up. In a print service created from Pro, do I really need to republish the service to see a new pagx template in the registered folder as opposed to just stopping and starting the custom print service?

I've been told by ESRI tech support that AGOL is 2 versions ahead of Portal. Would this make a workflow of copying data from AGOL to Portal not possible, although copying data from Portal to AGOL would work?

This workflow was not always supported in Pro, but I think at 2.6 it is. Have you tried recreating the mxd from scratch in Pro instead of importing the mxd into Pro and see if that workflow works better? I know its more work, but it might do the trick here.

The data is stored on a local drive (e.g. c-drive or e-drive) as opposed to a network drive? At 10.7.x I have resorted to mostly working on file gdbs on a local drive for processing and then copying result to network. I need to start testing geoprocessing in ArcPro to see if I have problems with processing on network like I do with ArcMap.
