I am trying to implement an ESRI sample python api script to updated a hosted feature layer but I am encountering errors. The original code can be found at: https://www.esri.com/arcgis-blog/products/analytics/analytics/updating-your-hosted-feature-services-with-arcgis-pro-and-the-arcgis-api-for-python/ I am getting an error about the service already existing in Portal which is what others have encountered as per the following GeoNet post that contains a ton of useful info on the problem and it is difficult to determine if the original issue was ever resolved: https://community.esri.com/t5/arcgis-web-appbuilder-questions/feature-layer-overwrite-error-data-referring-to-another-service/td-p/541904

Osgur: Have you tried to implement the python code in the 3rd link that you have provided? I am trying to use that code to update a Portal hosted feature layer but I am getting error in Server manager that says it can not find service even though I can perform the same process manually in Pro. I did see mention of a bug with updating hosted feature layers with python when Active Directory authentication is being used for Portal which is the case at my org.

I ran into the same problem using Pro 2.7.3. Switching from python.exe to pythonw.exe seems to have resolved the issue.

Is the Portal path the portal home URL without the /home at the end? Does the user specified need to be defined as an Administrator in your portal? Did you need to clone your python environment and add a specific module to python to access the GIS module?

So you are not replacing the data set in SDE, but adding a new data set each time? If this is the case, is there an error in SDE if you try to overwrite the feature data set?

It was my understanding that if you reference an enterprise database, the Portal feature layer should be updated automatically with the new data. Is this not the case for you? Does the schema of the data change between monthly updates?

Are you planning to make this an automated solution? If so, I would be interested to how you are able to automate the stopping of the geocode service as this is part of the current process that I have thus far been unable to migrate from a python 2.7 script (ArcMap) to python 3.6 script (Pro).
