This sample demonstrates functionality available at ArcGIS 10.1 which allows you to dynamically change the rendering of a map service (service must report "Supports Dynamic Layers: true") at runtime by overwriting the default symbology. Where do you make this change at run-time? In an mxml file? In the mapservice itself?

Thanks Vince I just wanted to try the ESRI forum first for responses, before I created a tech incident.

Can anyone from ESRI confirm mboeringa2010's response? It would save a lot of work at this time if I would not need to update the SDE connections to show an 11g Oracle client connection instead of a 10g Oracle client connection.

If you have ArcGIS Desktop on the same machine as ArcGIS Server (AGS), then you will also need the 32 bit Oracle Client since ArcGIS Desktop is still 32 bit software. There is ESRI documentation on this scenario in the setup for AGS. I believe it will not copy the SDE data to the server once the 32 bit client is installed as I ran across this same scenario myself.

To All SDE and Desktop Users: I have an environment where the Oracle SDE database has been upgraded to 11g from 10g, but the desktop clients remained at 10g due to the huge number of mxd layers that would need to be converted to 11g in the connection parameters. I have started writing python code to convert these layers in a batch mode. While performing this testing I noticed that even though a test computer has no 10g Oracle Client software but it does have 11g Oracle Client software installed, the connections to SDE still work. As such, it would appear from the surface that this big conversion job is not necessary. My question would then be what functionality would I be missing if I leave the Oracle 10g client connections in place, even though the desktop computers would have the 11g Oracle Client software installed on them? Any help or feedback regarding this issue are greatly appreciated. Thank you.

To GISDev: I was wondering if you have a basic viewer application setup that uses your own mapservices with pop-ups and all the widgets appear as expected at start-up, without requiring a refresh of the browser? The reason I ask is because in the following post "Issues upgrading Flexviewer 3.1 (uncompiled)" from 12/18/2012 other users were commenting about the same issue and the ESRI person was unable to confirm whether this was a bug or not. I am having the same issues as the original poster of this thread.

Gerry: You shared the location of your file geodatabases where you added the local ArcGIS Server account to this share? Also under security for this same folder location, you added the local ArcGIS Server account with full control? I was faced with the same problem as you and it was resolved once I shared the location and gave the the local ArcGIS Server account full access under sharing (Advanced Sharing) and security.

To All ArcGIS Server (AGS) 10.1 Users: I have a mapservice that I created (actual recreated at least once) in AGS 10.1 that I can see from its REST endpoint, but it keeps failing when being used in a FlexViewer Build 3.0 application with Error 500 - Could not find service with JNDI name. If I create the exact same service with a different name and use it in the FlexViewer application there are no problems. I thought it might have something to do with the local client browser cache, but I have deleted that cache numerous times without success. Any feedback on this problem is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Bubba: You are correct. I thought I had authorized the software with my v10.1 EDN license, but I actually took the ECP number from v10.0. When I checked the keycodes file I was able to confirm this. The below forum post pointed me in this direction: http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/61471-Error-Failed-to-create-the-site.-The-machine-does-not-have-a-valid-license.?highlight=arcgis+server+10.1+failed+create+site Note that when I authorized AGS with the v10.1 EDN license, it added the 10.1 keycode values to the 10.0 keycode values and I was still getting an error. I had to delete the 10.0 keycode values and reboot the server in order for ArcGIS Server Manager to function properly.

To All ArcGIS Server v10.1 Users: When I try to use ArcGIS Server Manager for the first time I get the following error after the initial setup pages: Failed to create the site. The machine does not have a valid license. Please authorize ArcGIS Server by clicking Start > Programs > ArcGIS > Software Authorization I had already authorized the software over the internet with ESRI, so I am confused as to why I am getting this error message. Any help or feedback to solve this issue is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
