Hello, Maps for Adobe Community,

With the recent Adobe Illustrator v27.1 update, some AIX files exported from ArcGIS Pro fail to open in Illustrator with the message, "This file is damaged" (as reported in this user post). We are currently investigating.

Screen Shot 2022-12-15 at 4.00.38 PM.png

In the meantime, here are some options to avoid disrupting your map-making workflows:

  • Turn on the Compress vector graphics setting in ArcGIS Pro when exporting to an AIX. (Read more about this and the other export settings in the ArcGIS Pro help topic, Export to AIX.)
  • Postpone updating to version 27.1 of Illustrator.
  • If you've already updated, revert to a previous supported version such as 27.0.1. (If you didn't keep your previous version of Illustrator, install a previous version using the steps outlined in Adobe help.)

Thank you for your patience while we work on resolving this issue.

Anna

Hello, Maps for Adobe Community,

Adobe Creative Cloud 2023 releases went public today at the Adobe MAX conference. The new releases are not compatible with the current version of ArcGIS Maps for Adobe Creative Cloud 3.2, which was released in July 2022. We are currently working on a new update of the application to support the latest Illustrator and Photoshop. The update will be available very soon. To avoid disruption to your map-making work here is what you can do:

  • Maps for Adobe users are recommended to keep their previous version of Illustrator or Photoshop when upgrading to Illustrator 2023 or Photoshop 2023.
  • If upgraded without keeping previous versions of Illustrator or Photoshop accidentally, and need to work with Maps for Adobe, then you are suggested to install a previous version using the steps outlined here and then reinstall Maps for Adobe afterward to continue work.

Thank you for your patience.

The ArcGIS Maps for Adobe Creative Cloud plugin enables data-driven mapping directly inside the graphic design apps, Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop. This integration fosters creativity and collaboration for creating compelling map visuals by supporting maps authored with ArcGIS Pro (via AIX export) and allowing access to content shared in ArcGIS and Living Atlas of the World.

A new update of ArcGIS Maps for Adobe Creative Cloud, version 3.2 (July 2022) is now available. This update includes highly in-demand capabilities to support map design workflows with both ArcGIS and Adobe's graphic design apps, Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. Below are the key highlights of the new version

  • Improved artwork cropping

With this new update, the artwork is now cropped more closely to the edges of the artboard in Illustrator when you open AIX files exported from ArcGIS Pro 3.0 or when you sync the map using the default mapping profile (available to ArcGIS organizational accounts). The capability reduces the overall AIX processing time and the file size as well.

ArcGIS Pro includes visual effects for layers and features, such as blending modes When you apply a blend mode in ArcGIS Pro that's also available in Adobe Illustrator, it's preserved in the exported AIX. Both layer blending mode and feature blend mode are supported in ArcGIS Maps for Adobe.

GeoJSON is an open standard geospatial data interchange format that represents simple geographic features and their nonspatial attributes. You can now use GeoJSON files to create an extent in the Mapboards window and to add layers in the Compilation window.

You can now save your portal URLs to streamline signing in with ArcGIS Enterprise accounts. The Account window has also been updated to provide more information, including your account type, username, and portal URL.

  • Fixed issues

We've been working hard at fixing the issues you reported to us. Here's a list of issues we fixed in the latest version 3.2.

  • Labels with 'Centered curved' label placement display differently in Adobe Illustrator as opposed to in ArcGIS Pro. (BUG-000140155)
  • SVG shape markers appear as white squares when AIX opened in Adobe Illustrator (BUG-000146150)
  • AIX files exported from ArcGIS Pro do not display properly in Adobe Illustrator (BUG-000145439)
  • Character marker symbols can result in slow performance opening AIXs (BUG-000136756)
  • Stacked labels do not display correctly after converting AIX to Illustrator
  • Some map sync actions stuck at 10%
  • Refresh button in Add / Import content dialogs to quickly pull new content
  • Some PLUS Users are not able to log in and reactivate an expired account
  • Artwork appearance applied to objects lower in draw stack due to naming conflicts

NOTE: This update doesn't support Adobe Illustrator 2021 (v25.3) and earlier or Photoshop 2020. Please do not update if you need to continue using these earlier versions. Instead, we recommend that you continue using version 3.1.0. Learn more about the supported versions for your operating system.

Hello, Maps for Adobe Community,

Earlier today, we found a compatibility issue with Maps for Adobe Creative Cloud 3.1 release on Illustrator v26.3.1, which goes public today. We are currently investigating the issue and working toward a resolution for it. To avoid disruption to your map-making work here is what you can do:

  • If possible, Maps for Adobe users are recommended not upgrade to Illustrator version v26.3.1
  • If upgraded and need to work with ArcGIS Maps for Adobe, then you will need to revert to a previous version (26.2.1) or install the long-term supported version (25.4.5) using the steps outlined here and then reinstall ArcGIS Maps for Adobe afterward to continue work.

Thank you for your patience.
