Thanks, @JustinS . We did finally successfully restore from our WEBGISDR backup. We've actually abandoned the HA architecture because we found that architecture was more problematic for us when deployed in AWS than the benefit we got from it (too many points of failure). Anyway, we've successfully restored from WEBGISDR backups a few times now to a single machine deployment with no problems. Thanks for your feedback anyway.

Are you able to share any of the parameters you used to fill in the template? Or did this error appear before you even got that far? I used this same template successully in Feb, so I'm wondering if there is a parameter that is causing you trouble.

ESRI Cloudformation templates are great, but there are a few additional parameters we'd like to see added to the templates so we don't have to fumble around with modifying the templates ourselves and potentially corrupting our Cloudformation stacks. Specifically, we'd like to see more EBS volume options in the template parameters. First and most importantly is adding either more root EBS volume capacity (current max is 1024 Gb) or adding an optional second EBS attached volume for backups. We have quickly run out of disk space using the ArcGIS Enterprise all-in-one template and struggling to properly manage our full and DataStore backups. Additional optional parameters that would be nice are: EBS volume type, throughput, and iops. Thanks

I'd recommend CloudFormation. It may also be helpful to have your IT team create an AMI for you to reference in your CF template. For example, we build a Windows AMI that includes peripheral software (Notepad++, ArcGIS Pro, Firefox, etc) we want to use. You can then reference that AMI ID when you deploy your CF template. Also make sure you are within ESRI's password guidelines - advice: don't use @ symbols and stay under 29 characters. Those have both caused us heartburn in the past. You'll need to figure out your VPC + subnet(s), IAM user/role, custom domain+elastic IP (if needed), and load balancer (if needed) ahead of time. You'll also need an SSL .pfx ready to go, along with your ArcGIS Server license file. You can set up an S3 bucket for those.

I think we've resolved this situation. Unbelievably, because our subdomain started with the letters r-e-s-t (restore), that must have been a problem with the ArcGIS Enterprise cloudformation template somewhere along the way. The browser request to Server Manager was returning a truncated version of our subdomain with the r-e-s-t lopped off, which resulted in a token error. We obliterated the stack and launched a new one, this time with a simple subdomain that didn't happen to include any type of reserverd word or sequence of letters. Voila! Success! I'd be curious to know if this should be a footnote in the ESRI documentation or if we are just out of our gourds over here. Anyway, my stress level for the upcoming weekend just dropped significantly. Thank you for the feedback - it got us thinking along the right path.

Hi Jonathan Our Server Web Adaptor is called "server". <custom subdomain>/server/rest and <custom subdomain>/server/admin is what we use to access those successfully. The federated hosting server in Portal shows as <custom subdomain>/server. <custom subdomain>/server/manager, however, is not loading. We're wondering if it could have something to do with our wildcard SSL? Like maybe it needs an SSL for a specific subdomain, as mentioned in this post from @ChristopherPawlyszyn

We tried deploying the ArcGIS Enterprise 11.2 "arcgis-enterprise-allinone.template" using CloudFormation. The deployment appears successful - no errors in the CloudFormation stack, we can log in to Portal and validate the hosting server, we can run a successful describedatastore, we can access GIS Server Rest and Admin, however, we cannot access ArcGIS Server Manager. The login seems successful, but after that it just spins and says "Please Wait...". This happens when we use any of the following: <custom subdomain>/<webadaptor>/manager <custom subdomain>:6443/arcgis/manager (from the machine itself) localhost:6443/arcgis/manager (from the machine itself) <private ip>:6443/arcgis/manager (from the machine itself) <hostname>:6443/arcgis/manager (from the machine itself) We used an elastic ip with a custom subdomain pointing to that elasitc ip using a CNAME record in Route 53. Like I said, Server admin and rest resolve, but not manager. Any ideas? Thanks for your feedback

Thanks for the feedback, Henry. Unfortunately, our config-store for the working system is in DynamoDb. I haven't found any guidance on how to move that information from DynamoDb back to a file system. Looking like a rebuild for us...

Could you use the ec2 instance hostname instead of the private ip? This would not change if launching from an AMI. Or does the ESRI software only use the private ip for configuration? I know the hostidentifier.properties file is set to hostname by default. Assuming this is a single machine deployment

Agreed. I've been doing this a long time both with ESRI and AWS and this is not the first nor the last time I have considered the "fresh start" option. Looks like I'm headed that way here. Our experiences with Cloud Builder have not been great, so we're going back to building manually or maybe using a custom CloudFormation template. Not thrilled about High Availability architecture either - lots of moving parts. It's been more like the Highly Unavailable architecture so far for us. Anyway, thanks for the advice.

Henry Thanks for your feedback. You are definitely on to something here. In our existing environment, our config-store uses cloud storage (AWS DynamoDb). In our restore environment, we want to use FileSystem. I checked the config-store folder on our Restore instance and none of our services are there. That is probably the root of our problem. Thanks for suggesting that. The moral of our story is that if you deploy AGE using cloudbuilder for AWS, restoring gets more complicated.

Scott Thanks for the feedback. We were concerned about that problem, but the blog post does show that HA to Single Machine is a supported operation for the WEBGISDR field. However, our existing HA environment is actually problematic anyway because we have only have one operational server (no standby). That's a long story in itself, but it is the only way we could get it working while we try to restore this to a new environment. We actually tried the WEBGISDR process to a new HA environment also, but the restore ran into problems downloading content from S3. Anyway, we are planning to try some additional restore operations as we move closer to the "desperation zone." Restoring an AWS-hosted ArcGIS Enterprise environment has been more challenging than we hoped.

Yes - the problem definitely seems to be with Portal and the REST services. It looiks like reindexing is not an option at this version based on this article. I am now more curious about the portal content directory as the old one was hosted in AWS S3 and the new one is hosted on the ArcGIS Enterprise machine. I'll take a closer look. Thanks for the advice.

We were able to successfully run the WEBGISDR Restore process from an ArcGIS Enterprise HA 11.2 environment to a Single Machine 11.2 environment. However, even though the WEBGIDR --import process was successful and we can validate our Data Store and Hosting Server, we not seeing any REST services and all of our content is blank in Portal. Users and Groups came over fine. Any thoughts? This is an AWS-hosted ArcGIS Enterprise 11.2 environment. Been following this blog as a guide along with the documentation.
