Shafi Trumboo, These are just my guesses based on very limited knowledge of the google api. You might have better luck finding people well versed in the google api on the google api forum. Since the Google Maps are in Web Mercator, I would assume any cached (tiled) services would also have to be in Web Mercator (102100/3857). For displaying dynamic services, the ArcGIS Server could project on the fly and so the actual spatial reference of the data could be anything, but for best performance I would guess data in Web Mercator (102100/3857) would be better. For querying for data, the ArcGIS Server could project on the fly and so the actual spatial reference of the data could be anything. But since I think the google map api works with geographic coordinates, for optimal performance I would guess data in WGS84 etc would work best. (Depending on how the "ArcGIS Server Link" was implemented). Again, this is all guesses...

ArcIMS layers will be supported as a new layer type in the 2.1 viewer. As for proxies for Flex, it's the same as any other proxies (there's nothing specific for Flex). As far as setting up a proxy page, there is a good write-up dor downloading and setting up a proxy at http://help.arcgis.com/en/webapi/javascript/arcgis/help/jshelp/ags_proxy.htm

identify widget for my 2.0 viewer.... Will this be included in 2.1? Nope, no identify widget in ArcGIS Viewer for Flex 2.1. However, depending on what you want to do, there is some "identify" functionality in 2.0. You can click on features and get a popup that shows information for that feature. This is the concept of "info popups". These are supported both if the feature was added as an operational layer of type "feature" (which could point to any layer in a MapService or FeatureService) or as a result from GeoRSS, Search, or Query widget.

FYI - for more information about the Flex Viewer, there is not only a basic readme.txt file but a resource center with help and samples. http://links.esri.com/flexviewer In Concepts -> Developers -> Getting Started there is some "getting started" steps that you might find useful.

I've not actually looked at the viewer for some time but perhaps should at some point. @Royce, the source code for Flex Viewer 2.1 (being released later this month) can be a treasure trove of Flex code for Flex API developers even if not planning to use the actual Viewer 🙂

Stacey, any chance that your service is publicly available so we could test it? If you go to the service directory for the page and click "View in ArcGIS Javascript" does it work? Are you working with the ready-to-deploy Flex Viewer, the source code, or a Flex API application? What's the URL you are trying to use?

Stacey, as for the specific concern on using 102100 and 3857 tiled services together - this should work fine in the Flex Viewer (and other applications written with the Flex API). 3857 is the official ID, while 102100 is the ID that Esri started using before 3857 came into existence. Since it is the same projection, the viewer will treat them as equivalent. Thus it is possible to overlay "3857" tiled services on top of "102100" tiled services. I'll make sure we include that information in our documentation. If this isn't working for you, does the Flex Viewer work for you if you set your map service as the base map? Roberts response was in regards to mixing Web Mercator and WGS84, which is different from mixing Web Mercator and Web Mercator.

The Flex API is meant for writing web applications. The normal work flow is to create your map in ArcGIS Desktop, publish it with ArcGIS Server, then consuming it using one of the web APIs, such as the Flex API. A developer would typically work in Flash Builder to create an application based on the Flex API. Hope this helps.

@phi505: in the beta there is no special support for singleline geocoder. In the upcoming 2.1 release of the viewer, the LocatorWidget will automatically use the singleline geocoder if there is one.

Josh, I'm assuming this is in regards to the new Flex Viewer... FYI - "Zoom to full extent" functionality will be part of a Navigation Widget that we plan to include in version 2.1 of the ArcGIS Viewer for Flex.
