Having similar problems. All the features involved are in the same projected coordinate system, having linear unit feet, and they are all shapefiles. Data frame coordinate system is also the same as the shapefiles. Distances are off by varying factors ranging from 50 to 5000. I gave up some time ago on using this tool, unless there's a very large number of distances involved, due to inexplicable results like this, but maybe I'm missing something?

Is there any way to make use of this tool or an equivalent without having to set up a topology? Ever rare time I have to use this tool I have to look up again how to do the topologies, its a waste of time.

I'm having the same problem (10.3.1) with using field calculator to 'copy' multiple joined string fields into another. Removing and recreating the join worked for one field, killing all Arc processes and reopening ArcMap also fixed it for a few fields.

Sometimes the graphic defaults get set to transparent and it makes a marker that can't be seen. You can change the default graphic settings in the Drawing toolbar drop down under Default Symbol Properties. Other times I can't make it work and have no idea why, in which case I just make a junk shapefile to find coordinates as its faster. The tool isn't very functional.

Its weird how the in program label expression builder when set to Python still uses [XYZ] for the fields. (in ArcMap 10.3) Thanks, I wasn't aware of the startswith method, the code works now as: def FindLabel ( [SITE] 😞 if str([SITE]).startswith('18') == True: return " " else: return [SITE]

I have a definition query on but the labeling engine still labels all the feature that have been queried out. How can I get the definition queried out labels not to show up?

How can I get this to work for a numeric wildcard? I want to exclude from labeling all values of SITE that start with 18 so I put this together: def FindLabel ( [SITE] 😞 if int([SITE]) == '18%': return " " else: return [SITE] The syntax checks out, but all the values that start with 18 are still labeled. If I take away the quotes around the 18 I get a syntax error. What gives? Is there no wildcard term for numbers in Python?

I had the 'selection contains one or more features that are not editable' error when trying to split a polygon. The polygon in question was a shapefile. However the mxd I was working in has geodatabase FCs in it. I loaded the polygon to split by itself in a new mxd and the split polygon worked.

I have the same problem. It even says they are features in the output, but zoom to produces nothing, flashing the feature shows nothing, its like they don't exist.

Where is the Clip inside option in Arcgis10.3? I'm trying to cut out some water body features from a DEM raster and don't have Spatial Analyst. I'm told the raster clip tool has a clip inside option somewhere that can do this, but I don't see it anywhere. As vaguely described here: ArcGIS Desktop

Here's a clutter creating workaround: Create a dummy layer to be used only in the legend that is a copy of the legend item with the patch you want to change. Use that layer in the legend, adjust its symbology width as desired and turn it off in your map but keep it in the legend.

When you identify a feature, the identify window gives you a location for the identified feature (about 1/3rd of the way down in the identify window). If the identified feature's layer has a different spatial reference than the data frame it resides in, which spatial reference does the aforementioned location readout use, the data frame's or the layer's?
