Hi Damiano, Can you provide more info as to how this error started happening? Did you have a working service and now it doesn't work anymore? Did you move your store locations around or migrate to a new storage area? All of these could cause issues with the server no longer seeing all the proper files to run the service.

Hi Nicolas, It seems like you while you may have made the map itself public, a portion of the data within it is not - and asking you for credentials to see it. Is there a layer that has security that you weren't aware of? From ESRI: Considerations for sharing maps If you want your map to be accessible to the general public (and your organization allows sharing outside the organization), you need to share it with everyone. To do this, click the Share button and check the box next to Share with everyone (public). You can also use the share option in My Content. You can only embed maps that are shared with everyone (public). When you share a map through a link or embed it in a website, the extent you last viewed is automatically captured and included in the link or embedded map. When the map is opened, it shows the extent you were viewing when you shared it. This allows you to share and embed maps that open at specific locations. For example, if you find a demographic map for the entire United States, you can zoom in to your city and share a link that opens the map at that city. Most Esri map layers are free to use on your maps and can be viewed by anyone. However, some of the layers require an organizational account to view and, in some cases, consume credits and require privileges. These layers are identified in the item details. If you want to share maps publicly that contain these particular layers, you need to build a custom app.

You could also get rid of your entire list of IF statements by just returning the first 5 characters of your string variable, which looks like what you're trying to achieve here. Something like: def Reclass(ProjectLd): return ProjectLd[:5] # will send back a string containing the first 5 characters of ProjectLd which doesn't even really need its own method... you could just parse the string at the point you're calling it (unless I'm missing something else this method does, then just insert it underneath).

This is an awesome idea! Great work on the mashup, I loved exploring it. A great example of how well designed APIs can integrate to form something greater than each intended!

Bledar, It is my belief that the sync process for Collector is much like the sync process for geodatabase replication, since in essence, you are doing the same thing - syncing a disconnected geodatabase. When you create or edit features, your disconnected copy of the geodatabase records what changes you have made to it in delta tables (or change tables). These are system tables within the geodatabase that contain the Create, Update or Delete statements that you have applied since the last sync was performed. These system tables are what is transmitted back to the parent geodatabase, and the changes are then applied (after taking care of conflicts, if required). The changes are recorded as being synced and applied to the child geodatabase as well, and the change tables are then reset/emptied - ready to record a new set of edits. Hope this helps! Todd

Hi Ali, I'm taking a look at your data, and the points are projected (looks like UTM, but they're definitely not Lat/Long). Do you know the original projection in order to reproject them to WGS84? Other than that, the step by step is: 1) Set dataframe projection to match your source data (Projection/ITRF2005 datum) 2) Add your XY data to the map 3) Export as a new feature class or shapefile 4) Run 'Project (Data Management)' tool to project your shapefile/feature class to your new projection and save it. 5) Create new XY fields containing the new coordinates of your new projected feature class/shapefile 6) If you require it, export them to a new excel table. Thanks, Todd

Hi again Eric, Without actually seeing how your data/topology/network are set up, my first step would be to take a look at the snapping options, specifically snapping to topology nodes. This will enable you to snap to features that make up your network, even when there is no vertex present. Here's the help out of the ESRI online documentation: Enabling snapping to topology nodes allows you to snap to a node in a map topology or a geodatabase topology. You might do this when you need to move parts of topology edges or snap to a location that is not an actual vertex in the feature. To enable topology node snapping, point snapping needs to be enabled first, and the map must contain either a map topology or geodatabase topology with the layers you want to snap to participating in it. Steps: Make sure you are in an edit session and have either a map topology or geodatabase topology containing the layers to which you want to snap. Click the Snapping menu on the Snapping toolbar and click Use Snapping. Ensure point snapping is enabled. If it is not, click Point Snapping on the Snapping toolbar. Click the Snapping menu on the Snapping toolbar and click Snap To Topology Nodes. Hopefully this solves your issue, otherwise we'll have to keep investigating. Good luck! Todd

Although it appears I can't move/copy it, your answer allowed me to open up an MXD with the proper symbology set, so THANK YOU SO MUCH! Saves me a bunch of time in republishing the service, so this will solve my problem for now. ESRI: If you're reading this, please include a way to copy/move services from the Server Manager! Thanks! Todd

Hi Rebecca, Thanks for your response! I agree there should be an easy way to do this - but it seems like something they forgot to include. Even just a little drag down box that says: Move to [Service Folder]. I don't have a cache associated with it, it's just a simple feature service that I can't be bothered with the amount of time it would take me to recreate it (don't have the original mxd/symbology). I just wanted to move it to an archival folder, but I might just end up deleting it anyways! Todd

Hi all, I'm currently using ArcGIS for Server 10.2 and am wondering if there is an easy way to copy or move services with the Server Manager from one service directory to another? I've looked through the help files and here on GeoNet, but I haven't found an answer yet. For simplicity's sake I want to take SERVICE1, which is located in ROOT/FOLDER1 and move it to ROOT/FOLDER2. Can this be done? Thanks! Todd

Thanks for the reply Kelly! Some good stuff there and I'll definitely read up more on that process, but a lot of it is ArcGIS Online focused. I'm specifically looking at being able to just use a barebones javascript api page that I can show the functionality of services that I've published on my local ArcGIS server. Something like the Flex Viewer, where I can build a web app in 30 seconds to show an audience my feature service on a map background, but in JavaScript API. I think that the Web App Builder in AGOL is like that, but that functionality (that I can see) isn't available without AGOL or Portal (neither of which I have).

Hello all, I'm playing around with the web app templates that are offered on ArcGIS Online. What I'm trying to do is populate the map in the web app using a WMS service on my ArcGIS Server. The issue I'm having is that the web app is looking for some form of "Map ID" that is usually found when you publish a map on ArcGIS Online or Portal for ArcGIS. Is there an option to have the map just be based on the layers within the WMS? Here's a few code lines from the default.js: //default web map, default app color theme and more. These values can be overwritten by template configuration settings and url parameters. "appid": "", "webmap": "", //Defaults to arcgis.com. Set this value to your portal or organization host name. "sharinghost": location.protocol + "//" + "", I've tried setting the "sharinghost" to something like "myserver/arcgis/services/service/mapserver" in all kinds of variations, but just returns an error on the webpage: Unable to create map: Unable to load http://myserver/arcgis/services/service/mapserver/sharing/rest/portals/self?f=json status: 403 Anyone know if what I'm trying to do is even possible? And if so, how I might go about bypassing Online/Portal? My thanks, Todd

My go-to bible for cartographic principles and thematic representation is a book called: Thematic Cartography and Geovisualization (3rd ed) by Slocum, McMaster, Kessler and Howard ISBN 978-0-13-229834-6 http://books.google.ca/books/about/Thematic_Cartography_and_Geovisualizatio.html?id=P_URAQAAIAAJ I think every "mapper" should have a copy of this, I reference it a lot. Since you're trying to list feature classes within a workspace (in your example: shapefiles in a directory) why not stick with arcpy instead of trying to manipulate all the string possibilities? Arcpy.ListFeatureClasses() method will give you all the shapefiles you're looking to buffer and just set the environment to the working directory. This will also help if you move to geodatabases, as windows directory structure won't work to get you your feature classes in there. Hope this helps, Todd

Hi Brad, Can you be more specific on what you need the script tool to do? It sounds like you want to input certain layers only, which can be done by hard coding the values into Python, or using arcpy.GetParameterAsText to chose the input from the script GUI every time you run it. Unless I'm totally missing the mark here - in which case I need more info. Cheers, Todd
