Here's the embed code to use. <audio controls><source src="https://downloads.esri.com/agol/labs/maptour/horse.mp3" type="audio/mpeg"></audio> I noticed that if you copy and paste it out of the blog post, some of the spaces are missing, as you can see in the screenshot you posted. Rupert

Hi Roberto the issue where people get prompted to sign in when they launch your publicly shared Story Map Tour via the URL you posted is that the web map you are using in your Map Tour contains some additional layers that require an ArcGIS Online subscription for people to access outside of your organization. In this situation go to My Stories https://storymaps.arcgis.com/en/my-stories/ and look for your Story Map Tour. You should get a message that you need to confirm that you want your readers to be able to access those subscription only services. For more info see the Story Maps section in this blog post: Using Living Atlas subscriber content in public maps and apps Rupert

Hi Roberto. Would you like to share your Story Map Tour publicly so we can have a look (assuming it is something you are OK sharing)?

Adrian Welsh is correct. There's not a way to do this and we don't have plans to add that just because it would be quite hard to do across a range of apps. We'd recommend sticking to web maps if possible to get the extent-sync functionality. Leigh, is there a particular area of functionality that you can't achieve with web maps that makes you want to embed apps instead? Using apps, like ones built with the ArcGIS Web App Builder definitely gives you a broader array of functionality than using web maps. But they may not be as easy for your readers than simply using a web map. Plus there are a few functions you can add in for web map use. For example, if you want readers to be able to turn particular layers on and off, you could add story actions into your Story Map Series description panels to enable readers to do that. Rupert

Hi Rachel (original question about how to embed audio in popups in web maps). I was trying this out last week and I found that for an MP3 file accessed via a URL on the web, this embed code worked in popups nicely: <audio controls=''> <source src='https://downloads.esri.com/agol/labs/maptour/horse.mp3' type='audio/mpeg' /> </audio></p>

Hi Laura The issue you are seeing in Story Map Tour is one we are fixing in the ArcGIS Online update (Tuesday night, Sept 18th, assuming it doesn't get delayed to the next night). In Map Tours created since 26th June, we over-sanitize audio HTML and this causes those < and > escape characters to appear. Our fix will enable you to embed new audio HTML into Story Map Tours created since 26th June. (Map Tours created before then don't have the issue because our sanitization kicked in just for tours created after then). The fix won't mend your sanitized HTML but you'll be able to add new HTML and it should work. Note: Story Map Tours that you create by uploading images directly into the Story Map Tour Builder can't have audio embedded in their captions, irrespective of when they were created. Our fix next week doesn't address that. It's a limitation of how the image upload works for Map Tour. (See Frequently Asked Questions | Story Maps for why). Bottom line: for your Map Tours that don't use image upload, embedding audio in captions will start working again next week (I hope!!!). So you'll be able to embed audio in Map Tours that use Flickr, Google+, YouTube videos or images referenced via URLs. Rupert

Hi, if you make your Story Map public, the Story Map Builder or My Stories | Story Maps will let you know that those private web maps, and the data they contain, will have to be shared publicly too otherwise people accessing your story won't be able to see them. So if you want anyone to be able to view your Story Map, the web map(s) it contains (and the data the maps contain) also need to be shared publicly. Here's my understanding of this (don't treat this as official Esri policy especially in regard to sensitive or private info): Sharing the maps publicly does expose the data in them, depending on the format it is in. If the maps contain sensitive data that can't be shared for security or compliance reasons, definitely don't share those web maps or use them in a public story map. However, for less sensitive data, making the web map public for use in a Story Map may be OK: readers won't be able to download data from your Story Map, but they could go behind the scenes and find your web map (for example by searching for it in ArcGIS Online or grabbing its ID via browser dev tools as your Story Map loads up, and then try and download the data from it, depending on the format it is in. One alternative would be to use a static screenshot of a map in a story map (by simply uploading an image you've created) so that the underlying data is not accessible at all. Hi Bailey Sorry about the issue. Could you confirm that you are using ArcGIS Enterprise Portal, and not ArcGIS Online. On ArcGIS Online it works OK. If you are using an Enterprise Portal do you happen to know the version number and the behind-the-scenes data store type? Can you also confirm that your Story Map Tour is built by uploading images directly into the Builder (as opposed to using, say, Flickr images or referencing them via URLs? If you are using image upload, could you also confirm that if you don't include any HTML tags in your captions, you can save your Story Map Tour successfully, and that it is only the addition of the HTML that causes the prob? I can reproduce this issue on a couple of ArcGIS Enterprise Portal test accounts too (10.5.1 and 10.6). It's not related to the HTTP/HTTPS protocol used in your link. On the Portals I can reproduce this on, it happens when thetour is built by uploading images directly into the Builder. It's not an issue if the tour is built using Flickr images or any other workflow. When you choose the option for images to be uploaded directly into the Story Map Tour builder, the Tour app automatically creates a feature service behind the scenes to store your places and their pics. Feature services restrict what HTML can be included in their attributes (see https://links.esri.com/storymaps/story_map_tour_html_formatting_fs ) and the Story Map Tour won't let you save if you include unsupported HTML. However, the HTML that you are using is supported, so what you are trying to do should work on Portals that support creating Tours using image upload. Normally this comes up when folks try and add the hr (horizontal ruler) tag or the audio (audio embed) tag into their Story Map Tour that uses image upload. Hr and audio aren't supported in feature services, so authors have to use a different workflow to create their Map Tour if they want to use those tags. It works OK for me on the 10.6.1 Portal I tried. So I can use your HTML in a Story Map Tour creating using image upload on that Portal. I'm not sure if this is related to the particular behind-the-scenes data store used in that Portal compared to the others I tested and that you are using, or whether the more recent version explains why it works for me in 10.6.1. If possible, it might be good if you could open an issue with Esri Technical Support about this and reference this Geonet. However there's not a workaround for this from what I can tell, except to create your Story Map Tour without any HTML formatting, or to use a different workflow to create your tour. Rupert

Hi Patrick That web map https://www.arcgis.com/home/webmap/viewer.html?webmap=074eea83427b4f53b11e27b749c7caa3 works OK for me in Shortlists. I can choose Share > Create Web App and publish it using the Shortlist app and I get the wizard that lets me choose how to publish it. Here is it is Imported: https://www.arcgis.com/apps/Shortlist/index.html?appid=76dfcd68f2fd43f89c539455e95ca44a And here it is read As-is (so that the Shortlist updates automatically to reflect changes you make to the data in that map) https://www.arcgis.com/apps/Shortlist/index.html?appid=620278f19c4c427f95629d7d09ede3ae Rupert

Hi Clare Might be a couple of things going on: 1. Actually read point 2 first because I think that is the issue not point 1: To use Flickr pics in Story Map Tour you don't need to sign-in to Flickr. Perhaps your Flickr pics are not shared publicly or no longer shared publicly? Your pics have to be shared publicly to work in Map Tour. What is your Flickr account name that you are entering into the Map Tour to access this pics. For example mine is Rupert Essinger (anyone can enter that account name into the Map Tour builder to use my publicly shared pics, and the Flickr URL to my pics is: Rupert Essinger’s albums | Flickr 2. If you get bounced into the Builder when you try and just view your Map Tour it is usually because the tour wasn't saved yet or because it can't access the Map Tour Layer in the web map that the tour stores its places in. The first tour URL you posted above isn't shared publicly: it prompts for a login to your ArcGIS Online Organization The second tour URL you posted opens but no tour loads. I looked at the web map it uses: https://www.arcgis.com/home/webmap/viewer.html?webmap=684ffd852230440891ba6e163fd51276 and the 'Map Tour Layer' has been turned off in that web map. That is what is causing the issue with the Map Tour launching the Builder when you launch it and not loading when I launch it. If I save a copy of your web map, turn that layer on, save the web map, and then publish it as a Map Tour, I can create a Map Tour from it as expected. Looks good: https://www.arcgis.com/apps/MapTour/index.html?appid=e7185f1902a04933816329a8968d2a4a So I think just turn that Map Tour Layer back on in the web map for your second Tour and it will work OK.
