HI Julie You could customize the Playlist like that but we'd recommend using the Shortlist app if you want to present different sets of places of interest in different tabs in a story map. See: Shortlist App | Story Maps

Hi Allen Story Maps apps will display whatever symbology is being used in your ArcGIS Online web map (with the exception of the Story Map apps like Map Tour and Shortlist that use their own built-in numbered symbols for point features containing the content for the tours and tabs those apps show users. Apart from that Story Maps simply use the web maps you create in ArcGIS Online. There are two ways to get a symbol from ArcMap into your web map: a) publish your layers directly from ArcMap to ArcGIS Online as services or b) you can upload your own symbols into ArcGIS Online when you change symbols, so if there is a symbol in ArcMap that you want to use but you don't want to or can't publish your data directly from ArcMap, you can make the symbol as little graphic file and apply it in the web map.

Your web map either doesn't exist or has not been shared publicly. That's why your Shortlist isn't working. If your web map was available publicly, it would work. So this link has to work: http://www.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=3949282b685d435587f5f18fce9406fc

Hi June That is a good idea and something we'd like to add but it isn't supported at the moment. But they'll probably want the Public Art tab tto be first as well, so may be easier just to make a copy of your web map and make a new shortlist specifically for them instead, with or without the other tabs. One thing that really helps if you are making multiple shortlists: you can run multiple shortlists from one instance of the download. So in this way you can install the app once, customize it as much as you want, and then run multiple shortlists from that same instance. So for example you can take your existing instance of the Shortlist: http://ccmaps.carlsbadca.gov/facilities and send a different one of your web maps to it via a webmap parameter in the URL: http://ccmaps.carlsbadca.gov/facilities/?webmap=35dbdc33d23c4a338996dd25d250bac5 For example that's how we did the Brazil World Cup Shortlist. I just made the web map and then put its ID into a URL sent to our generic instance of the app: http://storymaps.esri.com/templates/shortlist/?webmap=bc57628b16ee41dca3264d885df2c95f&COLOR_ORDER=red,blue,purple All the parameters in the Index.html config section are supported, like in this example: http://storymaps.esri.com/templates/shortlist/?webmap=8504932f183c4b8699dc6ba28235e398&DETAILS_PANEL=true&GEOLOCATOR=true&POINT_LAYERS_NOT_TO_BE_SHOWN_AS_TABS=Light%20rail%20stations&SUPPORTING_LAYERS_THAT_ARE_CLICKABLE=Light%20rail%20stations|Light%20rail|Neighborhoods|Parks Nice story maps by the way!

A map package or layer package can't be added directly into a web map. But your home user license includes an ArcGIS Online account and service credits that will let you publish services from ArcMap via ArcGIS Online's cloud, so if you can add your image into ArcMap, you can publish it as a service and add it to your web map. To check that you access to publishing services from ArcMap with your ArcGIS Online account, start ArcMap and choose File > Sign In with your ArcGIS Online account (if you are not already signed in). Now open any map document or add any data into your map. Make sure you are in Data view and not Layout view in ArcMap. Finally go to File > Share As Service and press Next in the wizard that appears and drop down the Choose a Connection list. If you can publish to ArcGIS Online you'll see a 'My Hosted Services' entry in that list. If you can't, you won't be able to. (If you have access to ArcGIS Server because you work for an organization that has ArcGIS Server, you can connect to that server at this point from the wizard to publish services).

It's definitely simpler to just add those services into an ArcGIS Online web map! You can combine them with other data in ArcGIS Online and choose one of our basemaps (or use one of those services as your basemap), etc. etc.

Hang on, ArcGIS server services are fully supported in ArcGIS Online. If you can add a map or service from ArcGIS Server into an ArcGIS Online web map, it will work fine in Story Maps, because Story maps are just apps that display ArcGIS Online web maps.

That won't really work. If you just want to add the outline of the park into your map on top of the existing basemap you could draw it on the map using the ArcGIS.com map viewer drawing tools' upload it as a shapefile created in ArcMap, or as another linear data format supported by ArcGIS Online. But if you want to add some imagery on top of one of the basemaps to show a more recent image than the one that is shown in the basemap, you'd need to get it into the web map as a fully georeferenced layer in one of the formats supported by ArcGIS Online.

Hi Yeel. Can you post the URL of one of the images that isn't appearing as it is being referenced from your map tour? Actually I had a look at the map tour layer in the web map you are using for your map tour: http://www.arcgis.com/home/webmap/viewer.html?webmap=3be2c5ebc02743a99db997779c707e3e and the URLs to the images in your map tour layer's attribute table are not valid Internet URLs: For example you have: http://gisserver/WalkingTour/Images/Dalhousie Bistro.jpg http://gisserver/WalkingTour/Images/Dalhousie Bistro.jpg which isn't a valid URL. That URL won't work irrespective of whether it is in the map tour or not. If you are referencing your map tour images on the web via URLs, you should try them in your web browser first to make sure they work. For example I'm making a map tour at the moment and I've chosen to put the images on a public server I have access to so they can be accessed via URLs, like this one: http://downloads.esri.com/blogs/places/sandiego/bread_and_cie2_large.jpg which I then put into the attributes of the point layer in my map tour layer in my web map. That URL works whether it is just opened in a web browser or opened in the map tour. If your images are hosted in the same folder as the map tour, it is best to reference them from your map tour layer with a complete URL, starting with the domain name of your map tour: http://mapamherstburg.ca/ Alternatively you can simply load your images into Flickr, or one of the other photo sharing systems supported by the map tour, and let the map tour reference the images automatically for you, and not have to deal with URLs at all. Or if you have an organization subscription to ArcGIS Online you can upload your images via the map tour builder and let us host them for you (in a feature service) which also saves you dealing with individual URLs. Hope that helps.

Hi KPS4 I checked the web map you use in your story map to see if the data is shared correctly and that works OK for me http://www.arcgis.com/home/webmap/viewer.html?webmap=2f6a34e2eb234203836d8079805bdb63 so I'm not sure yet why you are getting that message. Sorry about the problem.

Yeel> Your URL is working now http://mapamherstburg.ca/walkingtour/index.html but your customization is definitely causing odd things to happen. (None of your images are displaying, but that's a separate issue). Perhaps start those customizations over again.

KPS4 > Your map tour works fine for me in IE 11 and other browsers: http://gis.bergmannpc.com/awards_tour/ and I don't get the message you saw (although it might be intermittent or based on some condition that I'm not experiencing). When you see that Portal Config message, does it work if you ignore the message and just press Refresh? (Note that the pic for place 5 isn't appearing: http://bit.ly/1pKhGNf )

You can also make your link generic by replacing your organization's domain name with just www.arcgis.com. So for example the entry for this web mapping application item representing a story map app is: http://story.maps.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=28e6e70ad0d34d20a9e8bda7391e1188 but to make that link generic I can change the domain to be just http://www.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=28e6e70ad0d34d20a9e8bda7391e1188
