And here's a couple of examples that put a legend in the header: http://alaska.usgs.gov/announcements/news/1964Earthquake/ http://www.mappmycity.ca/Const_Detours/index.html And here's a legend added in via customization: LOSSAN Coastal Rail Corridor

That generic hosted instance isn't available for the side accordion, just for the Shortlist. For the Shortlist it is mainly used for testing and reviewing content, rather than for deployments, because you can't change the Esri logo out to be your own logo, or do customizations like changing the header graphic. We are planning to make a hosted version of the side accordion app in a future release but there's no planned release date for that yet.

That will work OK in the Shortlist. In your web map, the shapefile- or CSV-file based point layers containing your points need to have a field called IMAGE_URL that contains the URL to each of your images, including the http at the beginning of the URL. I had a look at your web map: http://gurneeil.maps.arcgis.com/home/webmap/viewer.html?webmap=c538db1526a841ef84fbf0fc5d527f60 and your points don't have an attribute called IMAGE_URL containing the URL of each picture. The Shortlist looks for that field to get its photos so if it isn't there it won't work. You should really start over and create your point layer using one of the Sample shapefile or Excel file templates which you can find in the Samples folder of the Shortlist download: that's the easiest way to create the Shortlist layers with the correct attributes. You can then upload your Shapefile or Excel spreadsheet (after exportig it to CSV into your web map. It's an extremely simple set of attributes but if you don't use that set of attributes it won't work. Have a look at the web map we use for the Downtown Washington DC Shortlist to see three CSV file-based point layers with the correct attributes (Attractions, Food, Design): http://www.arcgis.com/home/webmap/viewer.html?webmap=66502e241a6e4f72a1d9c1a80fcbc2d7 That web map also contains two shapefile-based polygon layers we also include in that Shortlist as clickable layers so they also have the correct set of Shortlist attributes. In that web map you can open the table for each layer to see the set of attributes each layer has (they all use the same standard Shortlist attribute set).

The app you posted above is a Map Tour, not a Shortlist. Those are two different Story Map applications. Check out this page to clarify what type of story map you are trying to make: http://storymaps.arcgis.com/en/app-list/

I had a look at your web map: http://www.arcgis.com/home/webmap/viewer.html?webmap=98cb3b8fdca64f4786a0821dac137a86 and your Shortlist isn't working because the Number field for the points of interest isn't populated: it is 0 for each feature. They need to be numbered 1 thru XX because that is the number used in the SHortlist for each place. If that value is 0 for each feature it's not going to work. That is why the marker symbols are not drawing on the map. http://storymaps.esri.com/templates/shortlist/?webmap=98cb3b8fdca64f4786a0821dac137a86

Just add your places into your Shortlist web map as separate point layers, one layer for each of the tabs you want to appear. So for example for my Brazil World Cup Shortlist story map I assembled the points in three different Excel spreadsheets, then exported each spreadsheet as a CSV file, then loaded each of those files into my web map, giving each layer the name I want to use for the tab. Open the web map and click on Content over on the left to see the three layers I added: http://www.arcgis.com/home/webmap/viewer.html?webmap=bc57628b16ee41dca3264d885df2c95f Then I (optionally) added some bookmarks, one for each World Cup city, zoomed to the extent of Brazil which is what I want people to see when they first open the story map, saved the web map, and made it public. Then I just reference that web map so that the Story Map Shortlist app displays it, either by specifying the ID of that map, bc57628b16ee41dca3264d885df2c95f, in the index.html file in my Shortlist installation, or by sending it as a parameter to the Shortlist via the URL, which is what I chose to do: http://storymaps.esri.com/templates/shortlist/?webmap=bc57628b16ee41dca3264d885df2c95f&COLOR_ORDER=red,blue,purple

Hi, Looking forward to talking to authors at the UC too. There will be a story maps booth at the Esri Showcase area of the exhibition at the UC. There are also several story maps sessions and demos. Those marker symbols should be working: they are part of the shortlist download. I suspect something else is preventing your layers from drawing correctly.

Sorry that link isn't working. Here's one way to provide a legend in a map tour: use the capability in map tour to use a Intro image that isn't a point on the map. http://brandonbockrath.com/Storymaps/Landmarks/whlc/index.html (Courtesy of Brandon Bockrath)

Hi Daniel Thanks. And thanks also for tweeting this fantastic example from Esri Poland: http://edukacja.maps.arcgis.com/apps/MapTour/index.html?appid=d55fd43581994de4a8d756d309db5045 A tip for this sort of map tour: I think it's best to use the three panel layout, like the one above does, where the media is over on the left rather than on the right, because in that layout the caption appears underneath the media in a separate area rather than on top of the media.

Hi Daniel It isn't one of our supported templates but we do make the source code available in Github for developers who would like to use it as the basis for their own custom story maps app. Note that the code for this is unsupported and provided as-is. Developer skills necessary in order to use. https://github.com/leebock/languages

No problem. Hope it works out OK. You can put the files for your story map application onto any publicly available server to test it with all your customizations. Quite a few story map (and other ArcGIS Online app) authors who want to deploy an app template they've downloaded but who haven't got easy access to a server, or who want to preview things before uploading them to their organization's official website managed by their IT department, use hosting services such as Amazon S3 as their hosting environment: http://aws.amazon.com/s3/pricing/ This is better than Dropbox in that it is designed for hosting apps whereas Dropdox, Box, etc are designed more for sharing individual files. It might be worth looking into that if you'll be doing a lot of tweaks and customizations to apps.
