Hi Matt I'm not on the developer side of things so I'm not sure how to do this customization. Are you sure you want to do this though? If someone clicks on your header link and it opens in the same window as your Map Tour, your readers will lose their place in the tour if they click the back button in their browser to go back to it. Their current location in your tour isn't preserved in the browser like it is when you browse a web page like a newspaper article. Rupert

Hi Warren Relocating those images to your own server is a good solution for these images. This also enables you to reference them via a URL in any other story maps you created. Like Alison says above, bear in mind that when you reference images via a URL in any story map, those images are not optimized like they would be if you uploaded them directly into the Story Map Builder, or into a photo sharing site like Flickr. I noticed that some of your images are quite large, over 2 MB in some cases, and these will load slowly for your readers. Try clearing your browser cache and then reloading your Shortlist to preview the load speed when people click on a place. It may be worth making smaller file-size versions of your images on your server to improve draw speed. See this FAQ for details: Frequently Asked Questions | Story Maps Rupert

To configure a tabbed app where each tab shows a different extent, scale or content, you may have already looked at our Story Map Series app. Story Map Series isn't place driven like Story Map Shortlist, but if your maps show point features, and you are OK without the picture gallery that the Shortlist provides, you may find Story Map Series useful. In a Story Map Series each tab can show any area at any scale on the same web map, with any choice of layers turned on or off in that map. You can alternately have each tab show a different map. Plus tabs can also show images, videos, etc. Here are a few Story Map Series tabbed examples in the Story Map Gallery filtered on Travel and Recreation Gallery | Story Maps (In that set, this one is a Story Map Series with each tab showing a different Story Map Journal: http://arcgis-content.maps.arcgis.com/apps/MapSeries/index.html?appid=fbf644cbbba441c7bd9b1a00d03c8728 ) Rupert

Hi, the Story Map Shortlist displays info about places on the left hand panel. So the info about the places in your tabs appears in the tab area too. You can include other supporting layers in your Shortlist's web map, and the popups configured in the web map for those supporting layers do appear in your Shortlist as standard popups. But standard popups are not displayed for the layer(s) in your web map that contain the actual places in your Shortlist. If you want the info about your places to appear in popups instead, you would need to use the older, original 1.x version of Shortlist, That is still available from Github. See release 1.4.9 here: Releases · Esri/storymap-shortlist · GitHub . Shortlist 1.x only supports self-hosting but you are doing that already. Are you sure you want to revert to the older style where the place info is in popups? The new style Shortlist makes it easier to browse the places and also lets your audience see larger pictures. Hi Ferdinand, Could you start a new, separate question for this? It make it easier for us to manage and also makes sure that others can see your question. Rupert

Hi James So in this case, the Story Map hosted in ArcGIS Online isn't/won't be shared publicly right? (If it is shared publicly, your users wouldn't need an ArcGIS Online account to view your story via your customized code). Rupert

HI Joe There aren't any known issues like that, but we'd like to hear if anyone else has this sort of issue. Something may be going on at your end or it could be user error . For this sort of thing where there may be several factors, Esri Tech Support may be your best resort especially for urgent projects. Dan presented with us in July at the Esri UC. Rupert I edited the title of your post to include the name of the app

No prob. It comes up quite often because that Back button is a bit far down in the UX. As soon as you said Map Journal, I was thinking that might be the issue. Rupert

In the Story Map Journal Builder, click the Edit button (pencil icon) next to the section you want to change the image for, and then in the dialog that appears, click the Back button at the bottom if it is showing you the Position options for your existing image: This will take you back to the options for replacing the image: Rupert

Three questions for you 1) Which Story Map app template? (there are 8)? 2) Which picture? Some of the apps have a cover page, all of the apps have a logo in the header, etc. 3) Where and how are you trying to change the picture so far.? Rupert

Hi Jayme This isn't supported: clicking on a hyperlink or clickable image in a popup will open in a new tab instead of replacing the map or app in the current tab. That's by design really: if you clicked on something in a web map or web app and it opened in the same tab, you'd have to click Back to get back to the map or app to keep working on it, and we wouldn't be able to return you to the same place or location you were looking at in that map or app: you'd lose your place/context. In Story Map Journal you can create Story Actions in the narrative text that open media, such as images, so they fill the main stage. That would give you a similar effect. See: https://community.esri.com/community/gis/web-gis/storymaps/blog/2016/06/01/arcgis-blog-using-story-map-journal-main-stage-actions In Story Map Journal you can also customize the app so that clicking on a point on the map goes to a section in the Journal: https://community.esri.com/thread/202521-i-have-a-map-with-approx-15-points-and-i-would-like-to-use-the-story-journal-template-is-there-a-way-to-jump-from-each-marker-to-the-section-on-the-floating-panel-that-talks-about-that-specific-marker Hope that helps. Hi Kelly I can only reproduce this if one of the sections in my Map Journal has an usually long title with no spaces in it. For example if the title of my section is that long Hawaiian fish name (humuhumunukunukuapuaa) it partially clips the Delete icon but I can still click it. Does one of your section titles perhaps start with a long word with no spaces in it? If so, editing that title to break up that first word, and then going back to the Organize dialog should let you access the Delete button. If that isn't what is going on, could you also let us know which web browser you are using and also which operating system (Windows 10, etc). Rupert
