I have a question regarding the proper use of the ImportToolbox command. We're trying to import the ArcHydro toolbox in Python, but the script stops at the arcpy.ImportToolbox command. Here's what we have: # Load required toolboxes arcpy.ImportToolbox("W:\Program Files\ArcGIS\Desktop10.0\ArcToolbox\Toolboxes\Arc Hydro Tools.tbx", "archydrotools") We've tried using "archydro" and "ArcHydroTools" as aliases to no effect. We thought the spaces in the toolbox name might be causing the problem, so we copied the toolbox to a local drive, renamed it without spaces, but still no luck at importing the toolbox. Thanks for any help you can provide!

I followed the instructions (link below) and got it to work - using the sample metadata file it shows a link to a (fictional) ftp site. So that works. My problem is, I want to do a variation on this example. Instead of the link going to an FTP address, I want it to simply go to a website's URL. I experimented with putting a website's URL in the networkr tag in the sample metadata, but what happens is the "Open" hyperlink disappears from the metadata in the results. So how do I change this example so that instead of the "Open" link working with an FTP address it works with a website's URL? It sounds like it should not be that difficult but I can't get it to work. http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/geoportal/index.php?title=Add_Custom_Link_to_a_Search_Result Thanks! Jacob

I have followed the instructions in: http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/geoportal/index.php?title=Add_Custom_Link_to_a_Search_Result but I cannot get it to work. I want to use the networkr tag to allow the user to download a shapefile (zipped) and another link to download an lpk file. In gpt.properties I have added the lines catalog.property.customLink.label.esri = LPK File catalog.property.customLink.label.esri = Shapefile and I have modified the other files exactly as shown in the sourceforge document referred to above. What happens is there is a link called "Open" that will open the LPK file. What I want to happen is that the "Open" link should work with the Onlink tag (if it has a URL) and there should be a link called "LPK File" that works with the appropriate networkr line in the metadata and there should be a link called "Shapefile" that works with the networkr line in the metadata that links to a zipped shapefile. But there is no "LPK File" or "Shapefile" link. I even used the sample metadata as one of the tests and I also completely deleted the Lucene index and rebuilt it, and stopped and re-started Tomcat. What could I be missing or doing wrong?

When I Browse for metadata in the Geoportal, the metadata seems to show up in a random order whether under Content Type or ISO Topic Category. I want to force the metadata to show up in alphabetical order according to its title.

I want to tighten up the Search function on my Geoportal. I do not want any text in the Abstract tag of the metadata to be included in a search. However, I still want the medadata's Abstract text to show up when you do a browse or a search. So how can I make it so the Search function will overlook the text in metadata's Abstract tag? I tried removing references to the Abstract tag in property-meanings.xml and also fgdc-indexibles.xml but the Search function still used the Abstract tag.

I am trying to get hyperlinks to work so people can download zip files, etc. of the data. For example, for my annexation metadata file I have the paths specified where the downloadable files are: <networka> <networkr>http://tlcportal.gis.local/Downloads/Annex.lpk</networkr> <networkr>http://tlcportal.gis.local/Downloads/Annex.zip</networkr> <networkr>http://tlcportal.gis.local/Downloads/Annex.kmz</networkr> </networka> But when I look at the metadata in the Geoportal, there are no links showing up where a user can click and download files. I guess something more has to be done than adding paths to the networkr tag but I have no idea what. I think I followed what documentation I could find but I must be missing something. Can anyone please give me a checklist of things I should look for/do?

I am looking for a list of keywords in metadata that work under ISO Topic Category. I found some listed in the file, gpt.properties. It has an "Example of Keyword Look Up Table" for example, one can see that under Administrative and Political Boundaries that the keywords "boundaries" and "legislative districts" and "city" will work, among other keywords. I do want to make sure I am not missing any keywords in my metadata files that would work with the ISO Topic Category. Is there a comprehensive list of keywords or is what is shown in the gpt.properties file under "lookup table example" everything? That it is called a "lookup table example" makes me wonder if it is not showing all of the keywords. I need to find a complete list of ISO keywords that will work as-is in the Geoportal.

I have some metadata that I want to have links for Downloadable Data. I want to do similar to the attached screenshot of Raleigh's Geoportal. You see there are links for downloading DXF, Shapefile, Layer Package and KML. When I try that, I only get links that say Open, Details, and Metadata. So I need to have links for DXF, Shapefile, etc. so people can download the data. I even took a copy of a metadata file from Raleigh's Geoportal and changed the links to work on my server, and all I get are the Open, Details, and Metadata links -- no links to download the data even though they are in the metadata and I am sure it is coded correctly! Evidently, there is more to getting the downloadable data links to work besides what is in the metadata itself. Just what in the application has to be configured to allow for downloading of data? Yes, I have a directory with downloadable files and it seems to be coded correctly in the metadata but the links just do not show up in the Geoportal. Could someone please humor me with the correct chant, incantation, spell or whatever to make this work?

I am tweaking the medadata in our Geoportal so I have deleted and added many metadata files several times. The problem I am having is it seems when I delete the metadata and add it again to the Geoportal, it is as if there is still some memory of the old metadata that should have been deleted. I can delete the metadata and it is gone from the Browse Tree. But when I add the metadata back I get some duplicate metadata records that show up in the Browse Tree and where I am expecting 50 metadata records, I am showing 80 (30 repeat records). The metadata files are in a WAF directory and I am registering the resources on a network. I have deleted the resource and started over rather than reharvesting the metadata files (I did not stop to think maybe all I had to do was reharvest the metadata - I don't know - someone let me know the best practice please). So how can I be sure I have really deleted everything so I can start over cleanly?

I am trying to edit metadata from the Geoportal. The Geoportal right now has several .xml files that are actual metadata and also a couple of dummy metadata records I created in the Geoportal's metadata editor just to test things. When I try to use the metadata editor in the Geoportal to edit metadata, I get a dialog box that says, "The XML root element does not match the editor definition." Does anyone know what that means? It won't let me edit. I can create metadata in the Geoportal but I get this error message when I try to edit it. I get the same error when I try to edit the "real" metadata files I had loaded into the Geoportal.

I would like to change the default maps the Geoportal uses for "Streets", "Aerial", and "Topo". I changed the paths in the <basemaps> tag in these two files: Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Tomcat 6.0\webapps\geoportal\viewer\config.xml and config-all.xml Nothing changed when I called up the Geoportal Server Map - it is still using the maps from arcgisonline.com instead of our own map services. Are these even the correct files to edit? If not, what file or files should I edit? If so, why aren't my changes taking effect?

I am trying to assemble Mosaic Datasets that have some old historical imagery that is over 70 years old. This old imagery is of rather poor quality but it is the only aerial imagery we have going back to the 1930s. We georeferenced the images okay and I can add the tiles to a Mosaic Dataset. But I cannot seem to get the Color Balance Mosaic Dataset to do anything. The images are poor quality, some tiles are light, some are dark. The dark tiles pretty much remain too dark and the light tiles remain too light even after using the Color Balance tool. I was wondering if anyone had a similar situation and found Color Balance tool or other settings that worked well in balancing the differences between tiles of poor quality black and white images.

I am trying to make my own geoprocessing tools in .NET and I am having trouble finding some documentation that would help. ESRI used to have a page "Anatomy of a Geoprocessing Function", http://resources.arcgis.com/content/geoprocessing/10.0/anatomy-geoprocessing-function This page evidently gave examples of how you could create your own tool, but now this page is unavailable. I would like to find a copy of this page and other, similar documentation. Does anyone have this document specifically or similar documents they could share or know where I could find them? Thanks!

I had a somewhat similar problem. I have Python scripts that make this huge feature class of parcels (the parcel feature class has almost 100 fields in its table, if you can believe it). One of the final things my Python script was supposed to do was export this huge parcel feature class as a shapefile. I could manually export it in a few minutes using a geoprocessing tool. I could export it in a few minutes running a model. However, when I tried to export the parcels as a shapefile in the Python script, it just hung up and never exported. I accounted for things like indexes, but Python just choked (no pun intended). What I had to do was make a VB.NET/ArcObjects console application that would take the feature class and export it as a shapefile. The console application .exe file runs as a "script" and all it does is make the shapefile. This application is based on the "CopyFeatures" example from the ArcGIS developer kit. So there are things in Python that run slowly if at all but will run well as ArcObjects C# or VB.NET.
