Both 1 and 3 are TRUE. Option 2 is actually a part of option 3 itself.

Also make sure that-- your data is not stored in the binary geometry storage type. The table or feature class to be edited is not registered as versioned with the option to move edits to base If the versioned view was created prior to ArcGIS 10.1, you must re-create it; older versioned views cannot be edited in the Default version.

Edit the Default version You can use SQL to connect to the Default version and edit a versioned view. You do not need to open an edit session. When you start editing, you are automatically connecting to the current state of the Default version.

The link doesn't mention this: and then the edit session is stopped and restarted where the same feature is updated (in the second edit session), this causes conflict!!!!! The link is talking about scenarios when the feature is being edited in two simultaneous sessions. If the same feature has been updated in the same version by two different Editors, then conflicts are bound to occur asking which edit to maintain and which one to discard.

The error that you are observing during Post is indicating that you may not be connected as a DBO user. The DEFAULT version has an Access level of 'Protected' and thus only the version owner, DBO in this case can do the POST. Conflict will only be detected if the same feature has been modified in both the versions, the Parent and the Child. When you perform the Reconcile for the first Child version, no conflict should be detected, because the feature was not modified in the DEFAULT version, but was only modified in the Child version. However, subsequent Reconciles for the other two child versions should detect a Conflict, and will let you choose in whose favour to resolve that Conflict.

Did you authorize for ArcGIS Advanced? Open ArcGIS Administrator and check what licenses you have available to you and choose correctly. See if that makes a difference.

I believe you have already submitted a case for this with Esri Tech-Support. Maybe discussing with them and doing a screen sharing session will give you a better idea. And yes, do upgrade the database version to meet the minimum supported requirement and avoid any inconsistencies in the future.

Using the SDE user with 'sysadmin' permission will not work. ** Either grant 'db_owner' to SDE (after revoking sysadmin) and then use it to upgrade OR ** Use any other user with 'sysadmin' permission to do the upgrade.

ArcSDE Command line tools still exists in ArcGIS 10.2.2. So you can use that. SDE Command line tools have been deprecated starting from ArcGIS 10.3. Alternately, you can directly create the Database View using ArcGIS Desktop(Create Database View) or from the database end as well. Geodatabase Managing Data Enterprise GIS

Yes, I'll recommend that, Make all the required changes in the File gdb itself and then load the data into the sde geodatabase. Making these changes in the File gdb will be much easier and you won't have to worry about things like permissions, locks, etc.

It doesn't seem to be a permission issue, as you can modify some of the other Field names. It also doesn't seem like a Locks issue as you are able to rename the other fields.
