Likely cause: The def (aka .sde) file in your publishing environment is not exactly the same as the one hosted in ArcGIS server. TIP: Create the .sde connection file in ArcGIS client, export it and then import to ArcGIS Enterprise server. Then exactly the same def string. Further, I post this .sde on a file share and instruct our users to grab a copy instead of creating their own .sde files. Same source, same def string, less likely to cause problems later on for the next Administrator (aka you?) Why does this happen: "cause some publishers in your domain may create a .sde file using mapped drive, UNC or FQDN. I have def in ArcGIS Enterprise registered with FQDN.

Suggest when preparing to share data via services in ArcGIS Enterprise, work backwards from the intended audience/use case before creating the service(s). This approach lets you determine the sharing and access permission guidelines before service creation. Although it is often easier/faster to aggregate data in a single or few services, you've already identified how doing so influences the sharing and access control later on. Here's one idea. Assuming you are talking about hosted feature services in your registered data store, have you tried creating views in Enterprise portal from your single aggregated service and sharing those views to those that have access need? Another option and the model we use: More work for publishers up front but also more flexible for sharing and access control later on is to publish more services with less aggregation to support the sharing model.

Same problem. Same environment. No solution identified. Anyone? Our ArcGIS monitor did capture a severe level error for the snych job. I'm evaluating that info now. Here's the error from ArcGIS Monitor: "Error executing tool. And the error reported by ArcGIS Field Maps:GENERAL ERRORS, Illegal state. Job failed because responses have failed for more than 10 minutes.

My configuration is the same as yours except the high availability. Has been working just fine for over a year. Run PortalScan and ServerScan and address any reported security issues that concern you. TIP: Work closely with your Active Directory Administrator to ensure the advertised attributes for named users conform to the structure expected by ArcGIS Enterprise. In my config, we advertise user.name@domain instead of user.name@email.com(net)(gov)(...). That initially caused ArcGIS Enterprise sign in confusion for our users. What I did to address that was standardize the sign in to user.name@domain in every component of ArcGIS including AGOL and web mobile apps.

hello, We've not done a migration to our Company Azure (yet). We are considering it. Our initial planning includes moving the entire stack (server, Portal, Data Store, Web Adaptors) plus our EGDB to Azure at once. What's driving your move of Server 1st then Portal later? I'd consider that move high to very high risk unless you have exceptionally high confidence in the connectivity between your on premise resources and Azure. Just throwing out some things to consider. Please let us know how it works out.

A pleasure and thank you for accepting the solution. Now, since you've shared more info, a few more tips: 1. Suggest a migration plan to get your users off ArcMap and on to ArcGIS Pro. ArcGIS Enterprise integration with ArcGIS Pro is more robust and provides better user experience. 2. Suggest upgrade your EGDB (also refered to SDE by many but that's not really accurate and reflects the schema/spatial storage type). Suggest also migrate your data store (EGDB/SDE) from SDE schema to native hosting RDBMS schema geometry/geography. More flexible for your business user connections from outside GIS clients. 3. Suggest considering the use of ArcGIS Data Store instead of your current EGDB/SDE. In our enterprise, we do have multiple EGDB in multiple RDBMS of different flavors. With about a year's worth of comparison and performance analysis between our existing EGDBs and ArcGIS Data Store, the perfomance is normally better for the same data in Data Store. Also, we've yielded reduced administrative overhead by migrating content to Data Store.

Hello, 1. Please 1st check with your Esri account manager and review your license authorizations and options. 2. Next, determine what your user base is, what ArcGIS components they are using and their method of access to a license authorization. For example, if all your app users have Internet access all the time, hosting authorizations in AGOL makes sense. If, however, you have a mixture of user access such as Internet and organization network WAN users, hosting a portion of your license authorizations on premise makes sense. If deciding to host licenses on premise decide if you'll manage those in ArcGIS License Manager, ArcGIS Enterprise Portal or both. The combination of on premise and off premise license management does increase platform Admin overhead. However, making that investment will allow you to authorize components without consuming an AGOL seat just to license use another product like ArcGIS Desktop. 3. Our organization is large with a diverse user base need. We have a combination of license authorizations in AGOL, ArcGIS Enterprise Portal and two ArcGIS License managers (a primary and hot spare failover). This model supports our WAN only ArcGIS Desktop users, WAN/Internet users and our Internet (AGOL) users.

Agree with @ReeseFacendini. No risk to read only access. We do what you want to do. Our primary EGDB is set to allow connect/select read access by our knowledge/business workers using whatever method works for them via OS authentication from our AD.

Tips to remember: 1. The construct of SQL Server DB enabled as FGDB is different than a "normal" SQL DB. Best to interact with EGDB from within the ArcGIS Platform environment As you've discovered, when using another application to access those same data in the EGDB, confusion possible. Thanks to @ReeseFacendini for the post. I was initially thinking that, since you accessed the EGDB as DBO in SSMS, that you may have corrupted the EGDB somehow by using SSMS instead of access via ArcGIS apps.

Hello, Pretty open question. Here are some suggestions: 1. Keep your consultant "on the hook". 2. Have you a deployment acceptance test plan? If yes, follow the plan. If no, use the ArcGIS Enterprise the way you anticipate using it to meet your operational requirements and make sure it does. For example, I have a number of large data sets in services that I know perform poorly if the Enterprise isn't optimized for them. I use these to test/tune my new deployments. Good Luck! Todd
