I also agree that my users frequently print to PDF using WebApp Builder. Now with today's (3/9/21) announcement of Map Viewer Beta becoming the standard map viewer, most of us know that those great new Map Viewer beta functions (grouping layers, etc) aren't usable in the current WAB (I realize it will still display the layers). The advent of the Map Viewer Beta's tools is one of the reasons I experimented heavily with Exp Builder, so I hope the functional parity arrives this year...especially printing for those without developer editions.

Thanks for your response! The group layer support is something I've long sought after, but sounds like it might not work in WAB as you mentioned. The one I'm really excited about in the Map Viewer Beta are the labeling tools, fonts, etc. I have a feeling those might not be supported in the current WAB? The new fonts are fantastic for cartographic choices, plus the ability to have multi-line labeling and different labels depending on scale...all great additions.

I'll definitely be following this thread since we're also realizing that we'll have to transition from the WAB apps to EB due to the Javascript 4.x usage. I recently asked about new features in the Webmap Beta, which has a LOT of promise, only to find out that maps authored in the beta likely won't work in WAB...hence on to EB as the new path. Basically, I'd love to "clone" our current WAB Launchpad Theme directly within the EB builder. Fingers crossed for most of the WAB widgets can/will be ported over to EB. I'm not a developer, so I truly appreciate the ESRI team's efforts, especially after reading in this thread about the framework differences. Thank! -Matt

Confirmed (see screenshot)! Add the newline formatting in the current Map Viewer and then opened it up with the Beta and it displayed my two fields on separate lines as intended. Thanks for the feedback! -Matt

Hi Xander, Can you confirm if the multi-line labeling will be released in the first half of 2020? The current Map Viewer Beta Road Map document includes "Label Authoring" in that timeframe? Also, keeping all fingers and toes crossed for better labeling capabilities, e.g., removal of duplicates, spacing, line curvature, etc. Thanks! -Matt, Farmington Hills, MI

Chris, Did ESRI Australia ever get back to you on the thumbnails? I don't know if your situation was the same as mine, but in my case, I built a WAB app, which I then shared to another AGO org. When they launched the app, the thumbnails in the basemap gallery were referring to the images from <ourdomain.maps.arcgis.com> versus the URL of the app with a different doman. In essence, it didn't have access to the thumbnail images since they were initially loaded from the original domain, which is referenced in the URL to that image. Thanks, -Matt

Removing the Mapswitcher also worked perfectly for three of my Flex viewer implementations. Thanks @Admin Person! As a side note, since this means you'll need to keep the Layer List Widget open to toggle layers, it helps to drop an x and y screen coordinate to place the Layer List widget in a desirable location upon loading. If not, it obscures a bit of the navigation tool by default. I used x="25" and y="300" and it worked great.

I followed the below workflow on a Windows 7 PC with ArcGIS 10 SP 5 and it worked just fine. 1. Go to http://support.esri.com/cn/knowledgebase/techarticles/detail/40542 and follow the workflow to Disable Default Locators that connect to ArcGIS.com The above support document solved my error message. I'm running 10.1 and the locator error popped up every time upon opening or shutting ArcMap. Note that the Locators directory might require administrator permission to edit files.

Hey Matt, I'd recommend just go with editing the .xml. The App. Builder is really for people that are not comfortable with editing the .xml, and given that you're a GIS Coordinator and GISP, you should have no issue with that. Your life will be much better just getting the job done in the .xml vs. using a GUI. Thanks for your input, but being a GIS professional doesn't automatically assume comfort levels with any/all aspects of .xml hacking. It's a matter of speed and ease of creation, which is the reason the App Builder exists in the first place. I don't miss tweaking the minutia of ArcIMS files a decade ago, so the Flex GUI is what makes my life better.

I wanted to pass along info to this thread based on my ESRI Tech Support call on 11/26/13. My call was to solve why my template MXDs were not showing up in the ExportWebMap task. During the call I was shown how to set and resize the legend for my map and set it to fixed frame. Upon experimenting with the resulting PDFs, the legend worked fine and displayed the full legend of any items currently visible on the map. Please feel free to follow up in this thread if you need any assistance with setting up any parameters. My current dilemma is trying to figure out how the ordering of items in the published service impact the legend display. I've read via Help documents that if an items is to large to display in the fixed frame box, then that layer's legend items will not be shown. However, based on my tests, if I have our Zoning layer active (25+ categories) then the fixed frame box displays nothing in the legend, almost as if it overwhelms the template. Still experimenting..... Best regards, -Matt

Good afternoon! I realize you guys have already figured out this particular issue, but I wondered if you could assist with my situation where a restart of the service fails to show templates other than MAP_ONLY. I've successfully registered and validated my template folder on the server and I'm able to view a custom MXD and the MAP_ONLY option. However, when I publish the service, the Export Web Map capabilities still show the only choice as MAP_ONLY (Map preview only shows this option as well). I've even had this occur when I've chosen folders with numerous MXDs. If it's relevant, I'm running ArcGIS 10.1 SP1 and publishing to AGS 10.1 using the Flex Builder 3.5. Any assistance is greatly appreciated! Many thanks, -Matt

I'd also like to follow up on cub_fan_dan's post about the labeling capabilities. Basically, I'm in the same boat. We're trying to transition from the .NET interface to Flex using the Flex Builder application. We're also running into the issue of dynamic labels. I've published my MXD from ArcGIS for Desktop 10.1 with the labels turned on with scale dependencies, but they don't draw in the Flex app. Based on this thread, I altered the config.xml and set my layer type to "dynamic" which is recognized when you re-open the app in Flex Builder, but then it locks up the Builder when you attempt to edit this reclassified dynamic layer. I'm really impressed with the Flex Builder, but somewhat shocked that such a rudimentary and critical function such as labeling isn't simplified in this tool. Hopefully this thread will shed some more light on adding these functions directly into the Flex Builder interface. Thanks! -Matt
