ArcGIS Online Print Templates

Organizations that rely on ArcGIS Online for their GIS need the ability to design simple print templates in the browser and make those templates available to the default print service. 

1. Support for print templates as items in ArcGIS Online
2. Support for the default print service to be pointed to print templates to build a list of templates available. I think this should be a parameter list so that things like the Print Widget can be used to populate the list.
3. Support for standard ArcGIS Online security/sharing so that print templates can be secured if needed
4. A new WYSIWYG layout editor app in ArcGIS Online (not looking for ArcGIS Pro here just basic elements). Allow users to define:
   
   1. the map frame
   2. text boxes
   3. images (PNG, JPEG, SVG, etc.)
   4. legend (needs better options for handling overflow of legend items than the way it works now)
   5. scale bar
   6. north arrow
   7. simple graphics (points, lines, and polygons)
   8. page orientation
   9. page size
   10. support for Shared Theme

I know the trend in GIS is to go all digital, but in my opinion there are still many users that need access to printable maps that quickly convey a story to the person looking at it.

Why is it so hard to print a map. The system requires two people to set it up and a lot of extra work for the admins.

when will this be available to viewers via apps like experience builder?

i have 250 users 85% of which are viewers, they will be unable to print via this process

Yes @AndyGarwood, fully agree with your point. Having the configured print map template available for viewers is a must for us too. Understand you'd only let the higher level user types configure the plans but not allowing viewer user types to actually print the map seems really short sighted. Higher user types will likely just be able to use Pro anyway.

Another 5 months on and still no update on this coming out of beta? I looked and the blog article was 12 months ago. This is a long time to wait. Going to have to start looking at alternatives which cost even more $$$.

@ScottBall I see that the status was changed to "In Product Plan" earlier this year, can you provide any mor information about what the roadmap looks like for bringing this out of beta and opening it up to other user types?

@ScottBall yes please my ICT dept want rid of the single azure server we have to maintain just for a print template - is there a timeline for roll out for Viewers to be able to print using this service?

It's nice to see it in the release, but if I implement it in Experience Builder, it'll cost us 5 credits PER print?  Not too pleased about that, considering that I see numerous internal users generating dozens of prints each day, which would easily drain our credits in several months time. 😞

@MatthewMalone agreed, the 5 credits per print is scandalous especially when you can't preview what the print will look like. It could take users multiple prints to get it correct, let alone it just being used a lot anyway. Very happy to see the addition but the credit usage seems unnecessarily steep and a blocker for some organisations.

@James_Shreeve : I was hyped to immediately start working on implementing it within our EB internal apps, but then shrugged it off due to the credit usage.  Last time we had a decent template implementation was during the .NET interface era when we were still running ArcGIS Server internally.
