That's a good workaround, but is there a way to make this happen automatically? Surely someone at ESRI can chime in here? Cheers, Marc

Riiight. Here's hoping it's added as an out of the box feature at the next release. Seems like pretty basic functionality to me. Once this is implemented perhaps we could look forward to users being able to overlay shapefiles and kml without needing to resort to overpriced third party add-ons. e.g. http://www.geocortex.com/arcgis-server-software/

Hi, I would like to be able to load KML files that are stored on our disconnected network into a flex viewer map. I understand that up to this point the KML files needed to be publicly available as the map makes a call to http://utility.arcgis.com/sharing/kml to convert the files to something that the map can read. However, in the Flex Viewer help (http://help.arcgis.com/en/webapps/flexviewer/help/index.html#/Layer_tag/01m30000000p000000/), it states: Attribute specific to KML Note: The KML needs to be a publicly accessible KML file (*.kml, *.kmz). serviceurl???Optional, URL to your own utility service for converting KML files to features. [Added in version 2.5] This seems like the answer to my problem. If I supply my own utility service serviceurl I can point my kml layer in the config file at this service and the conversion will be done and my layer will appear in the map. Yay. Question, is there a configurable utility service we can download/instructions on how to create an appropriate utility service available anywhere on the internet. It seems pointless to add new functionality without the required documentation/examples so people are able to implement it. regards, Marc p.s. ESRI, can someone please adjust the login system for arcgis.com so that after you login it returns you to the page you were on, rather than the list of forums. Cheers.

Excellent. I don't know if I missed a download, or what happened, but I have implemented the coordinate menu widget from that last upload you provided and the copy MGRS to clipboard now works a treat. Thank you so much for your help. Are you interested in developing these tools further? I am sure that there is more functionality people could use, or tweaks to the config files to make them more user friendly to set up. Cheers, Marc

Thanks heaps for that fix. Not sure what you mean by 'adapt the right click/copy widget to this format as well' this should be included in the zip file posted 03-01-2012, 01:28 AM. The config file allows you to set any coordinate system. What I meant was, the right click - copy coordinate menu tool only works for MGRS when the map is in WGS84, not Web Mercator, the same as the other tools before you modified them. Currently, you can set output coordinate systems in the xml file and right click, copy these to the clipboard, this works great. But if you try and right click, copy the MGRS option you added nothing gets copied. The tool works great in WGS84 maps though. Thanks again. Marc

I have a similar system, but the points come from an Access database. I have them served up as an XY event layer using an OLE DB connection to the database. I had numerous issues connecting to the database directly, in the end this was the only reliable solution. Then I have published the mxd through ArcGIS Server and added the event layer to the flex viewer. I pass whatever feature ID I need to Rob Scheitlin's advanced search widget in the URL when the page loads, and it zooms to those records e.g. ?search=somevalue Hope this helps. Marc

Thanks for adding that clear button, that's brilliant. I think that I wasn't clear in my last message. The MGRS Grid readout in the coordinate bar is correct, as are the lat/long, map x,y etc. It is the Go To MGRS box in the bottom right that is giving me issues. No matter what grid I enter it sends me to lat/long 0,0. My map is in WKID 102100 (3857) which as far as I can tell is equivalent to 10213 as discussed here: http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/8762-WGS-1984-Web-Mercator-(Auxiliary-Sphere)-WKID-102100 I don't s'pose there is any chance you could adapt that right click/copy widget to this format as well. Thanks heaps. Marc

Marc, Sorry for the delay in responding been a bit tied up in work, hopefully the attached zip will answer your questions Regards Anthony PS. Please don't forget to mark post as answered Thanks so much Tony. I really appreciate you taking your time to help myself, and everybody else who uses USNG/MGRS. I think that this will prove to be very popular. However, there appears to be a small bug in the Coordinate Widget, it seems to return an incorrect grid. The MGRS Widget works correctly. Also, do you know if there is a way to clear the red square once you have entered a grid using the MGRS Widget? Thanks again, Marc

Hi Fernando, I have a similar situation to you, where I have published a dynamic map service based on a database table that gets updated by an external piece of software. When the attribute that the symbology is based on changes, the mapservice automatically updates. As long as the value that is in the field that defines the symbology is valid for that symbology. Example: COLOUR: 1 = RED, 2 = BLUE, 3 = GREEN Field value is 1 the point is displayed as red. The value gets updated to 3 and the point changes colour to green. If the value gets changed to 4, and this isn't defined in the symbology, then the point will display with whatever you have as <all other values> One useful tip is to set the "autorefresh" attribute in the layer tag in the config.xml for your flex viewer, so when the attribute updates it is automatically changed in your flex app. Cheers, Marc

Hi Tony, Is there any chance you could incorporate the Web Mercator version of Kerry's widgets as found here: http://www.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=56d4d2ed5d474eb4b8e29973d2376652 If you could help me on this it would be awesome. Cheers, Marc

Tony, The combination of the two tools you have supplied me are Exactly what I am after. Except for the fact they only work on a WGS84 webmap. If anybody could adapt these to work with a WGS1984 Web Mercator Auxilliary Sphere map I would be eternally grateful. Thanks heaps! Marc

Those tools are great. I have spun up a quick test site in WGS84 and they work perfectly. I really like how the mgrs tool returns a grid square if you enter less than ten figures, genius. ESRI need to implement that into ArcGIS Desktop for 10.1. One small improvement would be to be able to right click and copy the grid to the clipboard, that would make them even awesomer! Only thing is our web maps are all running in WGS1984 Web Mercator Auxilliary Sphere . Kerry Coffin, if you are out there, are you able to help? Cheers! Marc
