We are trying to build a widget that needs an address location to start with and then it performs actions like display nearby features and do other business. We thought of adding an address search box to the widget, but feel this is unnecessary as AppBuilder already provides a Geocoder widget. We see that the AppBuilder framework already provides a recommended way of communicating between widgets by publishing and subscribing to data. However, we see that the Geocoder widget does not broadcast or publish any data that other widgets can listen to, for e.g., messages like ‘no results found’, ‘list of results’, ‘selected candidate’ etc. We are looking at other ways of tapping into the Geocoder widget's actions. One of the approach we are trying, is to use dojo's 'aspect.after' method which waits until specified function of target widget completes the execution(here target is Geocoder widget) and then executes the advisingFunction (in the custom widget). For this to work, we need the instance of Geocoder widget, which we can get by using 'this.widgetManager.getWidgetsByName("Geocoder")’ method, where ‘Geocoder’ is the widget's name From the list of loaded widgets array, using the 'Geocoder' label First question is, which is the correct way of accessing another widget? Here is some pseudocode for what we are trying to do, // get the instance of Geocoder widget in your custom widget
var geocoderWidget = this.widgetManager.getWidgetsByName("Geocoder");
// wait for Geocoder widget's 'showResults' method which is called when user selects an address from list of results to plot on map
aspect.after(geocoderWidget[0], "showResults", function (param) {
//write code here to read the location of user selected address and use it further for your business
}, true); Our second question is that, is this a recommended way of hooking into another widget's actions and perform other stuff in your custom widget? Any pointers from the community will be very helpful. Thanks Anand

I tried with other services on sampleserver6. It works on all other services. Its just this one its crashing on. I am seeing that it crashes on all layers in this mapservice: Energy/Geology (MapServer) http://sampleserver6.arcgisonline.com/arcgis/rest/services/Energy/Geology/MapServer

When you run arcpy.JSON_to_features using the attached json file. It just crashes python. I am using 10.3. The json is actually the result of this 1=1 query. Click the link and save the output to a .json file. If you use ArcMap and try to run the JSON to features tool with the attached JSON, then it would just keep running forever and ever.

Hi Owen, thank you so much for the response, but seriously, Something as fundamental as this is not provided out of the box in the API? maybe i dont understand the complexity of the problem that the API team may have in providing this OOTB. As you say, we'l have to create a function to read the WKT value based on a WKID from the links you posted and then extract the units from the WKT and convert them to esriLinearUnits, correct?

This must be an easy one, but i am having a hard time with this. How do i read the linear distance units of a feature layer or a dynamic map service using the javascript API? for e.g., wkid 4326 it is degrees, 102100 it is meters and for some it is feet etc., what about spatial references which have only a WKT (custom) and no WKID? i need to display the linear units of a layer (feature/dynamic) programatically to show the units in which the areas and lengths are being displayed in a popup.

It is possible to restrict the number of cores used by ArcGIS Server to 4 cores on an 8 core machine using 'System Resource Manager'. So the question is if we have only one license of ArcGIS Server but we have an 8 core machine, are we allowed to use it if we restrict it to utilize only 4 cores? regards Anand

When you have an AGOL for Org subscription, you have capabilities to perform spatial analysis in AGOL Map Viewer, for e.g. hotspots or geo-enrichment which produce a new feature service with results of the analysis. How can we use the portal Map Viewer to perform the same analysis? When i add a layer to portal map viewer, i dont see the options to "Perform Analysis".

Thanks Stuart Foote. This really helps, though yet to get my hands on the Reed and Maidment article. An HRAP grid cell is 4 x 4 km and the points in the shapefile are the center of each cell right? So, I was wondering if I just redefine the coordinate system to WGS84 and use it further, what would be the magnitude of error? My objective is mainly to visualize the precipitation (interpolate, smooth and vectorize into polygons) and not use it further in any hydrological models or analysis. Well, it may be used sometimes to estimate what's the affected population in case of a storm though. Do you think assuming it to WGS84 will introduce too much error?

What is the correct way to project an existing shapefile that has a .prj file associated with it containing the following information into any other coordinate system for e.g. web mercator? GEOGCS["HRAP_Sphere",DATUM["<custom>",SPHEROID["<custom>",6371200.0,0.0]],PRIMEM["Greenwich",0.0],UNIT["Degree",0.0174532925199433]] A sample shapefile is attached.

No. I don't think this is possible in the current version of ArcGIS Viewer. But this could be a good request for feature. You can submit this to ArcGIS Ideas and if it gets enough votes, you may expect to see it in a future release!

I was looking at implementing data extraction in an app and saw that ArcGIS Online Hosted Services already have this ability. You just need to enable the "Allow Data Export" for the feature service by editing the item's properties in your organization and you can use the Analysis Tools in ArcGIS Viewer to perform data extraction. Though this works well with hosted services, I am unable to get it to work with ArcGIS Server services. When you enable "Data Extraction" for a hosted feature service, it enables the "Create Replica" operation on the REST endpoint of the feature service. So, to enable the "Create Replica" operation on an ArcGIS Server service, I enabled the "Sync" capability on the feature service (available only from 10.2.1 onwards). However, when I add this feature service to ArcGIS Viewer and try to use the Data Extract tool in Analysis Tools, I keep getting the message, "There is no data in the map that can be extracted. Data owner(s) must first allow others to export." Is it possible to use the Extract Data Task in ArcGIS Viewer with On-premise feature services? I'd like to use the Extract Data AMD widget in an app we are developing, but we need to support on-premise feature services too, not just hosted feature services. And I'd like to use the ArcGIS Online Spatial Analysis services instead of publishing a geoprocessing service for performing data extraction.

Hi Jake, I am not able to click on the link you mention in your reply to Alex. I tried viewing this in the latest version of Chrome as well as IE 11 and the links are just not clickable although they look like links, i mean they are blue (or greyish blue, cant really tell) in color. Can you please provide the full link?
