Sean, I was thinking if you had these two raster images and they were georeferenced in the correct spot, then you could just publish those images to the web: Publish hosted feature layers—ArcGIS Online Help | ArcGIS Then you could load the basemap, which would act as a separate layer and go under the published layers. Is that not what you were thinking?

Sean, It's usually not a good idea to post more than one thread of the same question. The places thing matters but usually you pick one place to put it (in this case Story Maps or in State) and if you wanted to add it to other places, you would just tag those places like I did above using the @ symbol and then the place name. I would suggest deleting this post and sticking to your main post here: Story Map Base Map Question

Jonathan, I ran through the setup, it installed all the necessary Windows IIS stuff, then did the ArcGIS IIS stuff. It appears to be installed and configured correctly since it seems happy. Though, I am unsure what 'public facing server' address to type in. I tried http://meridmain-south/arcgis/rest/services/ but this likely doesn't go anywhere since there isn't a domain extension in it. I tried toying around with the instructions here: About the ArcGIS Web Adaptor—Installation Guides (10.4.1) | ArcGIS for Server Accessing URLs with the Web Adaptor installed After installing and configuring the Web Adaptor, the URLs that you use to access your services will change. Below are some examples of URLs that would change after installing the Web Adaptor: Services Directory (REST web services) Without the Web Adaptor: http://gisserver.domain.com:6080/arcgis/rest/services. With the Web Adaptor: http://webadaptor.domain.com/arcgis/rest/services. For example, if the machine hosting your Web Adaptor is named wa with the domain myorg.net and your Web Adaptor is named arcgis, you'll access the Services Directory using the URL http://wa.myorg.net/arcgis/rest/services. But I couldn't figure out how to make my combination work in order to have it be public facing. What kind of web address do I need to use in order to make this public facing?

Oh, interesting. There is a lot to learn in the server world... Since we don't really have IT, it's basically me, sort of... How do you know which web adaptor to install (IIS vs. Java EE)? I'm guessing it's IIS, but not certain. Our ArcGIS Server is basically installed on a machine that will be running all the time and is hooked up to internet as well as the LAN. Nothing more, nothing less.

Jonathan Quinn, I didn't think of actually opening the port. That did the trick [for the most part]. I am able to see the server manager and such now. I followed these directions to open the port: How to Open Ports: 13 Steps (with Pictures) - wikiHow and under "Specific local ports" I typed in 6443. Also, I learned that 6443 is for https while 6080 is for http (Ports used by ArcGIS Server—Installation Guides (10.4.1) | ArcGIS for Server ) Ok, now for my dumb question. Is it safe to assume that if I do not have an actual web server, when I publish my map service and put in on a place like AGOL, then I can only see this service when I am on my local network? The only place I can see my REST service now is here: https://192.168.0.126:6443/arcgis/rest/services/11203_Server_Test/MapServer But computers outside my network cannot see this. Please let me know if there is a way that I am not thinking about. Thanks again.

Ennina, These are some good questions. I am not fully sure how to best answer them, but it might be good to have someone from Hawaii weigh in to see what they do about this. I am not sure how many Hawaiians are on GeoNet but I am tagging: Kauai Island GIS User Group (KUG - Kauai, Hawaii) and Pacific User Conference Also tagging Melita Kennedy

Hi Sean, Can you give a little more detail on to what you are wanting? Are you going to publish each of those images in the same geolocation and then perform a swipe between the two images? If that is the case, then the basemap does not really matter. You could toy around with different basemaps to see how they look below the images. You may also want to post this in the Story Maps place for greater visibility as well.

Randy, Do you have access to ArcGIS Pro? I know this may not be the best answer to the issue you're seeing but I have found that layout-view-type issues are vastly improved in Pro. It might be worth looking into.

Nicholas, I am tagging Rupert Essinger since he posted this blog post: ArcGIS Blog: Issue with the Facebook share button in some story maps and how authors can fix it One note though, sometimes when I am working in Google Drive, my "sync" stops working randomly. So I have to go into the google drive settings in the task bar and manually perform the sync. It might be worth looking into.

Paul, I would suggest starting a new thread with your question about this (and be sure to put it in the 'appropriate' place - likely ArcGIS Online). Also, you may want to post some screen shots and some step-by-step steps you have taken.
