I agree with rastrauch on the landing page. It would be much easier for everyone, including the end user, to click to an app that has what they need. Even having a drop down menu for "I need to..." and have apps specific for each use. Kitchen sink maps are very 2000. Convince your users that you want to move forward and not backwards. Good luck.

I'm really digging trying to find a solution to an issue that I'm having. I cannot enable "search suggestions" in any of the apps (both Template and Web AppBuilder) that I'm creating. The Web AppBuilder at least tells me that my data layer does not support pagination. I'm running SQL Server pre- 2008 database. Is this what is causing the issue? Can I stop searching until after our server is upgraded? Is this one more thing I can add to the list to IT in getting the server upgrade moved up in the priority list?

I figured out how to fix it. I changed the default extent for "new maps" in my organization settings.

I'm using both the General Purpose and the Hybrid Basemaps. We aren't using the Local Government model. I have created map services for both of these basemaps by customizing the original MXD document to point to our data. If I add the basemaps to a map on AGOL as a layer they come in correctly. If I add them as a basemap, they jump over to the Naperville Extent. This happens when I have the map service saved as a layer in AGOL and if I bring it in using the rest service endpoint. I have: Set the extent in the settings in AGOL for my layer to match my projection. Checked my layers in the map document to make sure that they are all in the correct projection. Copied the layers into a new MXD and shared as a map service by overwriting the existing map service. Copied the layers into a new MXD and shared as a map service by creating a new map service. Pulled out all of my hair. Once I create the map and app and manually put it to the correct extent it stays there, however, if I'm trying to get other departments to use this platform, they are going to think it's rubbish if they have to do it. Any ideas as to what I'm missing?

So, what's weird is that the app that I CAN get it to work in is a shapefile that I uploaded to AGOL. The one that isn't working is from our enterprise server. That being said I wonder if it's because the it's joined to a SQL table that was ported over from Oracle to SQL without the geometry type.

I am using the Basic Viewer. I have two apps (with 2 different maps). One has Enable Suggestions and the other doesn't. I can't figure out what's different between the two to get it to show up.

I would like to print at these specific scales. I have created and am using my basemap that is in my county projection, with scale levels. I can't see on the page that you linked where it "assigns" the zoom levels. When I zoom in and out, and consequently when I print, these scales are not "set". In the FlexViewer app from which we are migrating, when we print, we can click a check box and assign a scale to print. Is there that availability in AGOL?

Is it possible to set the zoom levels for maps and/or apps in ArcGIS Online? For example: 1:120, 1:240, 1:480, etc. We have users that we will need to be able to print off a map (::gasp::) and use a scale. Ideally I would like to be able to do it out of the box in AGOL, but I do have access to Web AppBuilder for Developers.

Brilliant! Thank you! I find it odd that one can't share to all the groups from the item itself.

There was also an article in the Washington Post about the relationship between esri and O'Malley. While it is a bit of a stretch when you consider how tightly esri is integrated with the results of what he did and how speakers at tech conferences talk about the use of that technology, the article implied that there is some glad-handing.

If you are at 10.1 you can do this in ArcMap. Open the ArcCatalog pane and look for the Options button on the far right of the bar. Click on the Home tab. Set a Path.

You *should* be able to do it this way: http://blogs.esri.com/esri/supportcenter/2012/08/09/want-to-redirect-your-default-geodatabase/ Just make sure you are looking at it in the ArcCatalog Pane of ArcMap and not in ArcCatalog directly.
