I wouldn't know about educational licensing and downloads, but for the rest of us, full versions (10.2.x, 10.3.x​) are downloaded thru myEsri site for the organization.  Typically there is one or more that are allowed to do the download.  the files are .exe that "unzip" and the install executable is part of the expanded structure.  But as Dan mentioned, if you have that install and associated files, 10.2.2 should be able to go on top of 10.2. if you had 10.1, that version would have to be uninstalled, but the software install would let you know and prompt you to uninstall.  (If by chance you still have ArcInfo Workstation installed already, and wanted to keep in, you Can ignore the warnings....it can run with other versions....but that is just for some of us old timers ) ... Jofre, As Sephe mentioned, it would help if you were a bit more specific, but in general, I would start with the municipality's web page and see if they have a "GIS" or "mapping" page where you can download what you need.  It may be they have a service you can add to your project. Also look/search at ArcGIS | Main  and the gallery (see link at top of page.). You can also do a search in your browser, but make sure to incluse some key words in your search including the municipality or state or area name.  Expand this area if you do not find any data local.  there may be more general data listed at the country level. ... I don't know if there is ​an actual advantage performance wise, but to add to what Michael mentioned, IT also tend to lock down the c-drive, for security reasons. So putting those folders on the d-drive or other "local" drive makes it easier to manage, and I have not found any negative performance.   There are still some AGS folders that remain on the c drive. ... Hi Phil, a few short answers... but I'm not sure how to set up the web server that would host the custom built apps.  .... Is there free software for setting up this kind of server? There are many web servers that should work, I'm most familiar with Microsoft IIS which is available on Windows Servers, but there are other that are free too. would the server be running on one dedicated machine that would need to be running all the time for clients to access the applications? Or would it run on the machines that are running our internal servers? If you want it to be available to clients 24/7, it would need to be available all the time.  If clients are outside your network, it would have to be available outside your network, but you can set up security and I highly recommend getting an SSL certificate and setting up https.  Do some searched on SSL in GeoNet and you will see some good discussions. Also, I'm wondering if there is a way to achieve this using a cloud hosted solution, and if anybody could recommend providers for this service? Tanya, I would have to​ agree that Brackets is straight forward and free http://brackets.io When you downloaded the app from WAB, where did you put the files?  Also, are you downloading WAB from Online or from the Developers edition? Have you tried running the web page in a web browser?   It's probably good to test to see if it's running using the default setup before starting to customize it more. ... View more

If you create the full cache that you want, and do not need to query or identify any of the data, for example a base map, you can edit your mxd and remove the link to the SQL database.  I believe you can actually even delete or rename the mxd once the services is created, but personally, I take a backup and then leave a dummy mxd...just in case. Point is, once a cache is created, the SQL data would not need to be accessed just for display purposes. ... View more
