My 2c but I am not an expert, just know a few experts . If feature access is not needed (ie web editing), we keep everything in a fgdb. Even if the data is in SDE and is getting edited via desktop, we use scripts on a regular basis to copy it across. If a layer is to be edited via a webmap/app, then it stays in the enterprise db. You correctly state that it is the service itself which is expensive on server resources. So we try and minimise those. So there will be a set of base services (usually focused around the business groups), but also the individual layers added as separate items. To convert the points to raster, you would need to do a little fiddling with the point spacing and the origin. Inputs to the Point to Raster tool, you would have to specify in the environments the exact cellsize of the output (equal to the spacing of the points) and also an extent which was exactly 1/2 of a cellsize offset to the west. So, in the output raster all the input points were at the centre of each output pixel. But if you just wanted a quick picture of these points, I don't think using something like Natural neighbour interpolator would actually mess up the input data so much. If this is something to do with logging or sampling down a drillhole, the interval table is normally joined to the drillhole polyline zm using linear events. First you need the drill trace polyline which has measures on the 3d length. Then you can map the data table to it using the data in the table like "m_From, m_To", back to the measures. The projection from GCS on one dataum to a PCS based on another datum can be done in one step using the Project tool or export from ArcMap. You just need to have set the correct transformation to get the datum shift sorted out. ... View more

Don't try and draw too much detail at smaller scales. Are the 30-35 layers all in one map service or have they been added as separate feature services?
