Michael, We are in the same boat. ESRI has been in the mindset for a while of single task maps. We have been in the need of a map that could be used as a kitchen sink to see all kinds of data with more then just a single workflow. There have been some promising options and templates out there, but when Web Appbuilder came along it was heaven sent. Very little coding to get all the rich features we needed. We too are replacing a catch-all map that was built using ArcIMS by people before I got it. It has been running by a thread and WAB now replaces all the functionality and then provides a ton more. When you make a selection using the Query tool you can check the box to make the result an operational layer. When that happens it adds the query result to the Layer List widget. There is a drop down arrow to the right of the layer name that onece clicked you can select to "Open Attribute Table". You can open the results in the attribute table and work from there.  ... If there are more than one search that I set up then it creates a drop down list of the different search options. Venus Scott I was having this same problem with the Land Use Public Notification App. Everything looked good but when I did a search by address it zoomed me to Germany. I found that I missed a step in the set up. Troubleshoot JavaScript application - Land Use Public Notification | ArcGIS for Local Government Verify the data frame is projected to Web Mercator Auxiliary Sphere (WKID 102100/3857) in each map document used to publish a service. The data may remain in the local projection. I had the data frame in a state plane projection. Once O fixed the data frame all was well. This might help for your app. ... View more

Just to let you all know of another way to do this. I do not want to go to my server and allow for data to be copied to the server. From what I can tell when data gets copied to the server it goes into some dark hole (deep file structure) and does not go into a common place to manage my data. I had a composite locator that would not load and had the same issues you were experiencing. The locator was already on the server in a file geodatabase and AGS was not recognizing that file location as a registered place even though many other map services are coming from the same location.
