Matt, Here's a blog on embedding story maps inside story maps that's been updated recently with a few tips about Cascade. Embedding a Story Map within a Story Map | ArcGIS Blog In general, we'd recommend using this technique only when it's essential to your overall goal or story, so exercise caution and good judgement so as to not create something confusing and/or overwhelming for your audience. Often a set of individual story maps presented simply on a page of your website is better than trying to mash stories together into a single story map. I would say embedding other story maps inside a Cascade story is not a good path to start down. The best Cascade stories we see are simple for the reader to use. Readers scroll through the story and the author configures the maps to show what needs to be shown at each point in the story. Introducing other elements that the reader has to stop and figure out how to interact with is often a distraction from the main story. If there is supplemental or background information in another story map you can provide a link to that story so interested readers can open it immediately or at a later time when they are ready. While it can work to embed a Cascade inside a Map Series or Map Journal, I would be cautious about this as well. Make sure to test your story at several screen resolutions to ensure it provides the experience you expect for anyone that reads it. Hope this is helpful! Owen

Hi Brian, I'm not familiar with GeoPlanner, but is there a way to export the results to a "regular" (non secure) layer? You might try posting that question to the GeoPlanner GeoNet space: https://community.esri.com/community/gis/applications/geoplanner-for-arcgis Thanks for sharing the links to your stories, but unfortunately I can't open them (I assume because of the secure layers), so I'm unable to troubleshoot. Hi Steven, I agree that those web maps don't sound out of the ordinary. I just tried to reproduce your issue with a few different sets of web maps but wasn't able to. Since my ability to troubleshoot is limited since you are unable to share the maps at this point I would suggest that you please contact Esri Support for additional assistance with this issue. Owen

Hi Kimberly, The images seem to come in ok for me in all those positions. What browser are you using to build your story, and can you check in the View menu to see that you are set at 100% or "actual size" (rather than zoomed in or out)? Owen

There isn't a single optimal size, but we recommend resizing images for the main stage down to about 2000px wide (if your original image is larger than that). We also recommend compressing images to 80% quality to further reduce their file size so they load quickly. Owen

Nikki, I got your message and tried your image from Flickr. It seems to come in fine for me, although it is a bit grainy. Did you resize it to 1000 px before uploading to Flickr? If so, you should not resize before uploading to Flickr and let Flickr handle any resizing for you. This is what FILL looks like: This is FIT: And CENTER: Are you still seeing something different? My advice would be that none of these options look great because this image is not very well suited for a Map Series main stage. The text in your description panel will overlap the logo in the middle of the image at most browser sizes/screen resolutions, which is not ideal. And some of the collage photos around the edge are getting cropped out in some positions (so you may see half a fish, etc.). The best types of images for Map Series main stages are usually single photos (not collages or images with logos/text). If there is a logo in the image, it's best located on one side (rather than the center/middle) so that the descirption panel doesn't overlap it. Another idea would be to put your AZ Trout Challenge logo in the side panel and a nice single photo (or looping vide) in the main stage. Do you think some of these options would work for your story? Kayla, The recommended way to add images to a Map Journal is to upload them to Flickr. This optimizes the photos for display on the web and makes them load very fast. You can also use Google Photos (see this blog post for more info). If you aren't able to use Flickr then you can host images on your own web server or a file storage service like Amazon S3 that lets you provide direct web access to uploaded photos. If you go this route you'll want to make sure your images are compressed and properly sized before uploading them to the web. We recommend using a width of between 1500 or 2000 px for images in the main stage and 750px wide for images in the side panel. If you enable the zoom control for a side panel image, you should also use 1500px wide for that one too. You can compress images using most free or paid image processing tools. Use a image quality of around 80%. Owen

Hi Jo-Anne, That service looks like it's only accessible over https, so when accessing your story over http it shows as an error. If you try accessing your story over https I don't think the error will appear. Also, you are referencing that service with a link to the GIS server's internal web server rather than the web adaptor, which is not recommended. The best practice for configuring ArcGIS Server is to use the web adaptor. Please refer to the ArcGIS Server documentation for more information.
