Hi Mike -- thanks for reporting this. We very much appreciate receiving specific, actionable requests regarding accessibility and Section 508 issues like this. We are trying to get the changes you've requested in for a release we have coming up next week. Can you please let me know which story map apps you are using so we can prioritize those apps in our queue?

Hi Lindsey -- If you add a Vimeo video to a narrative section it won't loop (or autoplay). If you want the video to fill the screen, just make it as a LARGE size media element. Owen

Hi Jill -- I can confirm the behavior you see is expected. We do the link validation a bit differently in Cascade since the Link to Content input box accepts all types of content. We currently do not honor image links that don't end in a image extension, but we can look at supporting that type of URL in a future release. For now, my colleague noticed that you can simply add "/original.jpg" to the end of your URL and Cascade will accept it. 🙂 For example: https://focus.nps.gov/GetAsset/a6849ecb-2962-4a87-b090-931254c679b9/original.jpg or https://npgallery.nps.gov/GetAsset/a6849ecb-2962-4a87-b090-931254c679b9/original.jpg Also, are you aware that you can upload images directly into the story map builders? There's no need to use a separate server for hosting images for story maps. In Cascade, on the ArcGIS tab, just drag one or more photos onto the drop zone on the left side of the media picker and they will be uploaded to your story. You can also upload images directly in the story map builders for Journal, Series, Shortlist, Crowdsource, and Tour. Uploading in builder is the recommended and easiest way to add images to your story maps. The app will optimize the images for display on the web and manage the permissions for you, and there's a reduced chance that images will get deleted since they are stored with your story, not in a separate location. The images you link to on your photo server may not be the best size or be compressed for optimal display in a story map (although from your experience it sounds like the images from your server are performing well in other story maps).

Hi Matt, It looks like you are using the same map in all of those tests. I can open many story maps from the gallery and not see any errors (although I do see messages and some warnings), so there appears to be something about your map or a layer it contains that is causing those errors. We have heard that some developers and power user authors find the error messages helpful to know when resources aren't shared/available, and the vast majority of people reading story maps don't use their browser with dev tools open, so these messages don't have any impact on their experience. Originally, in the first releases of Map Journal/Series, these messages didn't appear, but we ran into a tech limitation with one of the plugin libraries used in our apps when suppressing the messages so we added them back. It wasn't our preference to do that, but we haven't had any complaints about them until now, so it seems most people don't have the strong negative reaction to them that you have vocalized here. That being said, we hear that you'd appreciate if we would handle these messages differently. We'll look into minimizing what messages get displayed in the console and will consider otherwise hiding all messages and adding a "debug" URL parameter that devs can use to turn the messages on. This URL parameter is already implemented in Story Map Crowdsource (beta), and we will look to implement it in our new apps. For example, compare the console output from these two links: https://lsa.maps.arcgis.com/apps/StoryMapCrowdsource/index.html?appid=83405b6df75846de9a593ebac40cc4d6 https://lsa.maps.arcgis.com/apps/StoryMapCrowdsource/index.html?appid=83405b6df75846de9a593ebac40cc4d6&debug Thanks for your feedback. Hi Matt -- Sorry you are having an issue with console messages and Map Journal, but am glad to hear most of your other stories are working as expected. Below is what I see in the console when I open the Map Journal app. What you are seeing is certainly not expected or typical when Map Journal builder first opens. Is it possible that your organization has a logo image configured in its shared theme that is not shared properly? Could you please post a screenshot that includes the app and browser address bar? Hi Shannon -- Sorry you are having trouble with your story map. It sounds like you may be using very detailed features for your census block group layer. If there is a lot of detail in the features they will take a long time to draw or the request for the data may timeout. I'd recommend trying to generalize them using the Analysis tools. If that doesn't work, I'd recommend contacting Esri Support for more help since you can't make your story public.

Hi Kellie -- here's a blog about using Google Sheets with Map Tour that shows you how to use a live, web-hosted spreadsheet in a web map/story map. There may be a similar process for using Excel/Office 365.

Celeste -- As Darren mentioned you'd currently need to do that as a customization as we don't currently support individual zoom levels in builder. We're working on a new version of Map Tour and have that feature on our list to implement in the new app.

Nicole -- our narrative-style apps (Journal, Series, Cascade) all support adding web apps. In Journal and Series choose the option to add a "Web Page" and in Cascade the option is there when you add media and go to Link to Content. See screenshots below. However, I'd urge you to exercise caution when doing this. Story maps typically work best when they are simple to use, and often when authors add a web application to a story it can be confusing or not work well for the audience. If you are creating a story for a technical audience it may work ok, but otherwise we would often recommend simply including a hyperlink in the story that opens the app in a new browser tab. This way interested readers can access the app, but the experience of using the story map itself is kept simple for all readers. I noticed you mentioned you are using the Series app, which is one of the apps in which embedded web applications can work well. Owen

Hi Nolwenn, Sorry you are having trouble with your story map. Are you able to make your story public and share a link so we can take a look? If you're not able to share the story I'd recommend contacting Esri Support. Editing the JSON of your story carries the risk of breaking it, so we always recommend creating a copy of the original JSON before making any changes. Owen

Brandon -- sounds like until you get the SSL issues resolved you should simply put a link to your site in your story map so that readers can open it in a new browser tab.

Hi Brandon -- If you are accessing your story map over https then web browsers restrict you from accessing any embedded content via an http connection due to web security standards. Try changing the URL to https when you add it to your story map to see if that makes it work. If it doesn't work either your intranet site doesn't support https or it restricts embedding. There is nothing the story map app can do to get around these web security restrictions (for good reason). If you find this is the situation for your intranet site, I would recommend taking a screenshot of the intranet site to include in your story (if it is a nice looking website) and/or providing a link to it in the narrative of your story. Here are two blogs with more info about embedding and troubleshooting web content in story maps: https://blogs.esri.com/esri/arcgis/2016/04/14/embedding-apps-and-websites-in-story-maps/ https://blogs.esri.com/esri/arcgis/2017/05/05/troubleshooting-embedded-apps-and-websites-in-story-maps/ Owen
