Lars -- If the table needs to be a live view of data it would need to be hosted on the web somewhere as a viewable table, so yes Google Sheets or Office 365 would work for that. But, as you pointed out, for the table to be displayed inside a story map it would need to be shared publicly. Story Maps don't support private embedded content because browsers block showing a login screen inside another page (that is, inside a story map) since it violates web security practices. You could download the code for a story map app and customize it to provide a login experience for the site you want to use to host the private spreadsheets and host your customized version of the app on your own web server. The reader would be prompted to login before the story map loads and would pass the credentials to the site of the embedded content.

Adrian -- Story Map apps require connecting to ArcGIS Online or an ArcGIS Enterprise portal to obtain the story configuration. It is technically possible to customize one of the apps to do what you say, but yes it would take a significant amount of work.

Hi Trevor -- Sorry you are having a problem with getting your images into a story map. Can you please let us know which story map app you are using? They are listed here. Also, could you share a few of the photos here so we can test them and perhaps make your app public and share a link here so we can see what's happening? If that's not possible, could you please take a few screenshots and post them here so we can see what you are seeing?

Hi John -- Unfortunately, there's currently no way to package a story map for use offline. We are thinking about this, but it's currently a research project for us as a long term goal. There are a lot of technical challenges and/or limitations with packaging a story map for offline use since stories can contain so many different types of embedded content from the web, much of which can't be downloaded/saved. For now, if you have access to ArcGIS Enterprise software, you could load that on a laptop and build your story map on the laptop and bring that laptop to your kiosk location.

Jason -- OK, it looks like there is currently a max width of 1920px only on GIF images. Based on how people are using images it looks like we no longer need that limitation, so we'll look to remove it at the next release. For now, if you resize your image to that width it will work.

Nope, it's a 10 MB limit per file. Can you share the file here so I can test it? Do you have any special characters in the file name? We fixed some issues with that in the June release, but maybe there's something else there.

Hi Jason -- Welcome to GeoNet! Sorry you're having trouble getting that GIF into your Cascade story. There's a size limit of 10 MB on image uploads. How large is your GIF?

Hi Smitty -- Me again! 🙂 While you can't change the color by editing the JSON, you can still do it without hosting the app yourself. Map Journal has an HTML editor that you can use to add a <style> to override the CSS you found in the dev tools. See this article for details. Sorry for not remembering that before originally responding.

Hi Smitty -- unfortunately you can't independently change the color of that area by editing the JSON. That requires downloading and tweaking the code and hosting the app yourself.

Hi Maurreen -- Sorry you aren't able to find your story maps. Is it possible you created them with a different account or a Trial account that has expired? I would suggest that you contact Esri Technical Support for assistance with this.

Hi Dan -- what story map app are you using? https://storymaps.arcgis.com/en/app-list/ If Journal, Series, or Cascade, you can make an app with one of the other configurable apps like Web AppBuilder or Basic Viewer that have a directions widget. If you are looking to add directions to one of the other apps that can only be done by downloading the code and customizing the app to add that yourself.

Hi Patrick -- Sorry the initial extent of your maps is causing issues for you and your colleague. We will try to take a look at that to see if there's something we can do in a future release. For now one thing I can suggest is using a screenshot of your map in the story so you can control exactly how it looks. When you use a screenshot you'll be given the option to select a point on the image that is always visible to readers, regardless of their browser aspect ratio or screen resolution. Of course, this would only be an option if you don't need your readers to interact with the map in this part of the story.

Hi Mike -- we were able to get the <noscript> tag and alt text for the loading GIF into the release that's coming next week. On Wednesday morning (6/28), run your tests again and let us know if the apps pass. If not, please let us know ASAP on this thread because there is a possibility we could modify the app in a patch; however, there's only a small window of a few days for that. The tab ordering and alt text for side panel images are on our list to consider for future releases. Again, thanks for providing such detailed feedback on these issues.

No, any changes to the app code that lives on your local machine will not affect the version of the app that everyone else uses to view your story on ArcGIS Online. You'd need to host your modified app code on your own server, configure it to read your story from ArcGIS Online, and point people to the version of the app on your web server. This article contains an introduction to hosting your own story map. Next week we are releasing an update to Cascade that will give you a few options for changing the fonts in the builder (without downloading the code). These changes will also make it easier to customize the font if you do download and host the story map yourself. We'll post an article on our developer blog after the release with more details on how to do that.
