Feature search is definitely on our list to implement but I’m not sure we’ll have time to get it in for June. We’re hoping to get it in by our Fall release.

Does this url work: https://www.meetup.com/GeoDev-Germany/? If you load the original url of the app over https, all embedded apps need to be https as well so browser do not throw a “mixed content warning”. Because of the security issue, some browers will restrict the content from loading unless the user explicitly grants approval. It is also best practice to use https whenever possible.

Melanie, is this limited to just story maps or do you have the same issue in the basic viewer? Also, do you rely on a button in the popups to show the related fields or are they visible by default?

Melanie, Can you share the service you we're using? I just tested the sample service in the map series and it seemed to work. I'm assuming you configured the popup in AGO and saved the configuration before publishing?

Sorry, the filter is built into the core of the playlist app and can’t be easily extracted out and put in another app. The playlist does have a way to change the renderer so you can use your own point symbols if you use the developer version.

If you want to use the map series, the easies way to do this would be to just embed the playlist app inside the map series: https://blogs.esri.com/esri/arcgis/2015/04/21/embed-story-map-in-story-map/.

You can just add the “embed” url parameter. So you you have the appid as part of the url, you will use: http://arcgis.com/apps/MapTour/?appid=c50be5615f024cc482ccb88222a8719d&embed otherwise, you should add it with a "?": http://www.example.com/my-map-tour/?embed

Yes, you need to share the item with a group and give members of that group “update” permissions to the items in the group. Here’s a blog post that will explain it further: http://blogs.esri.com/esri/arcgis/2015/07/14/enable-colleagues-to-update-your-maps-and-apps/

As Owen mentioned you should start by downloading the code from Github: Esri/basic-map-storytelling-template-js · GitHub. The first thing you'll need to do is edit the config with your web map. Open the config > default.js file and replace the web map id with your webmap id: basic-map-storytelling-template-js/defaults.js at master · Esri/basic-map-storytelling-template-js · GitHub. While still in this config file, you can change the logo url and associated hyperlink: The logoLink (https://github.com/Esri/basic-map-storytelling-template-js/blob/master/config/defaults.js#L38) can be any valid website url. The will open a new tab when the user clicks on the logo. For the logo itself, replace the logo (basic-map-storytelling-template-js/defaults.js at master · Esri/basic-map-storytelling-template-js · GitHub) with the url to a logo image. This needs to be the direct path or the image file (usually ends in .jpg or .png). If the logo is already hosted, just use the full http:// url. If you need a place to host your logo, just add the image file to the "images" folder and replace "esri-logo.png" with the filename of your logo. To make the make the legend open by default, you will need to make two small changes to the code. First in the index.html file (basic-map-storytelling-template-js/index.html at master · Esri/basic-map-storytelling-template-js · GitHub) you will want to change the "icon-down" class to "icon-up" Change this (line 71) <div id="legToggleIcon" class="fg icon-down toggle-icon"></div> To this <div id="legToggleIcon" class="fg icon-up toggle-icon"></div> Finally, in the js > main.js file, remove like 213 basic-map-storytelling-template-js/main.js at master · Esri/basic-map-storytelling-template-js · GitHub. Once you have done this, you can test it and upload it to your server.

Is your web scene shared public? If you are attempting to embed any ArcGIS online/portal templates or web scenes, they must be shared publicly. If they are private or shared only with and org/group, the applications will first redirect to a login page. For security reasons, this login page is not allowed to be embedded.

Damon, I'm sorry this experience has been frustrating. As has previously been mentioned, we strive to make our apps as simple to use and as engaging as possible for the most number of individuals. Because of this we unfortunately cannot meet every specific use case while still keep a clean, easy to configure app but we work hard to meet as many as possible. Through much of our testing, we have found that users who are new to online maps or just unfamiliar with a specific find it very confusing when they are presented with a list map layers to toggle on/off. There tends to be no context for the user to know why one layer is more important than another or how it relates with the rest of the layers in the map. For this reason we have designed our apps to always give context to the user before layers are turn on/off such as providing narrative context with map actions in the Map Journal or changing subject with tabs in our Map Series. We believe that adding this context helps the audience of a story quickly and easily understand the major "take-aways" of the story. That being said, we understand that this structure is not ideal for every situation, especially when presenting your story to a more professional audience, to subject experts, or when more exploration of a topic is required. For your case, you may be able to use one of the two following scenarios: 1. Customize the app code to add a layer toggle All of our apps are open source Github. You can find links to the code by clicking the "learn more" button next to the app of your choice on our app's list page then scroll down to the "Developer" section. The ArcGIS API for JavaScript already has an available widget that would allow a JavaScript developer to add the component with only a couple lines of code. Pros: Faster loading experience Best integration as CSS can be added to the widget to make the look and feel match the rest of the app Better mobile experience Cons: Requires a developer Requires you to host the final code 2. Embed the Web App builder in the Map Series Both our Map Series app and Map Journal app allows you to choose what type of content you want in the main content area. This can be web maps from ArcGIS Online, photos, videos, or embed websites. Because the Web App Builder is just a web site, you can just embed it within the Map Series. Anytime you need a different map with a different set of layer toggles, publish that out as a new Web App Builder then embed it's URL into the story map. Here's a blog that explains how to embed apps within story maps: Embedding a Story Map within a Story Map | ArcGIS Blog. Pros: Everything can remain hosted on ArcGIS Online, no need to download anything. No developer is required. Cons: Sections that have apps embedded tend to load a little slower and may not work as well on mobile May not be able to match app styles exactly. Hope this helps.

Tyjen, by default, most browsers add a small margin around the body content and the body of the page doesn't have a set height so the 100% height won't work. I've attached a new html page that should give you the results you are expecting. I've also added a few meta tags so your app will switch to the mobile version on smaller screens. You should also add fill in open graph tags and title so Google and other social media sites can understand your page better: https://medium.com/story-maps-developers-corner/grow-your-story-maps-audience-with-open-graph-tags-b7639cb65d5c#.ps49kbt…

At this time the story maps apps do not allow you use custom fonts in the version that is hosted on ArcGIS Online. We provide the source code for our apps that you can customize with your own fonts but you will need a basic web server to host app once you make the changes. The easiest way to add custom fonts with with a solution like Google Fonts where they take care of font hosting, conversions, and base CSS. All you need to do is add a single link to their CSS file and write a couple lines of CSS to match the font families with the text elements in the Map Journal. Here's a blog post that explains more: https://medium.com/@ssylviageo/jazz-up-your-story-maps-with-google-fonts-65f4cefb38f8#.wudjqz1w9/. If can't find font's to use on Google Font's or a similar service, you'll need to host the font files and write the CSS so that the fonts are loaded by the app. Because of varying browser support, you need a couple different file formats of the same fonts. The fonts that you shared are not in the correct format to support websites. There are some online converters but you need to make sure you have the proper license to convert the files and use in your app (most that come with your computer are not supported). If you don't know for sure, you should assume you don't have the correct license. Here's a generic blog post that explains the CSS you will need: https://css-tricks.com/snippets/css/using-font-face/. Also, you should only load the minimum amount of fonts you need. If you don't have any italic or bold text, do not reference these in your CSS file. Adding too many font files can drastically increase the load time of your app. Once you have the proper CSS, you'll need to reference the font family with the corresponding map journal elements. The end to the Medium blog post will help with this.
