Hello DuVerger, You can access the Esri Demographics data (via the data browser) directly in the software. You don't need to export and re-import. The method to do this is called "Enrich". These lessons demonstrate how to enrich your data in a few products: ArcGIS Online: Choose test markets for a start-up | Learn ArcGIS ArcGIS Pro: Analyze fire preparedness with the ArcGIS GeoEnrichment Service | Learn ArcGIS ArcGIS Insights: Explore commercial permits | Learn ArcGIS ArcGIS Maps for Office: Get started with ArcGIS Maps for Office | Learn ArcGIS Sincerely, Heather

Thanks for this screenshot Alex, For Output Location, you need to select a location, not a file. In the Output Location window, do not type anything in the Name box. That will cause your computer to search for an item which does not yet exist. Instead click your desired folder and click OK. If you want to choose the desktop, you can click Computer in the top navigation bar to go back to the root, then click the Desktop folder icon. Then click OK. You could instead make a new folder on your desktop called Singapore_Tourism and then select it.

Hi Alex, I believe this is a windows error, rather than one from ArcGIS Pro. Are you working on a remote desktop? Are you able to save other files to these locations on your computer? You can continue on with the rest of the lesson without completing the export table part. Just skip ahead to the Label Features part. It will not effect the remaining steps. If the error is from ArcGIS Pro, please send us a screenshot and explain exactly where in the lesson the error appears. (For example, when you click OK on the Output Location window, or when you open the Export Table window.) Thank you, Heather

Hello Alex, It looks like you may be trying to save the text file to a network location that you don't have permission to save to. Please try a location on your local machine instead: At step 3, click the Browse button (it looks like a yellow file) and choose a local location. For example, your desktop or your Documents folder. Note that changing to the default location will not work because that is a geodatabase. Step 4 asks you to save this file with a .txt extension, and that file type is not compatible with geodatabases.

Hi Paul, I recommend this lesson: Get started with ArcGIS Pro | Learn ArcGIS It sounds like you want to create an empty layer that you will manually add data to. If that's the case, I recommend using map notes. It's the easiest way to make a new layer: Map notes—ArcGIS Pro | Documentation You may also find these short videos helpful: Create points from a table—ArcGIS Pro | Documentation Add data to a project—ArcGIS Pro | Documentation This article may also help you: Using common GIS data types in ArcGIS Pro. Most content (feature services, maps) can be copied using ArcGIS Online Assistant. The Python method described below is required for more complex content. You can use it for dashboards, web apps, surveys, and configurable apps. It will not work for ArcGIS StoryMaps or ArcGIS Experience Builder. First, you'll identify the items you want to copy. 1. Go to ArcGIS Online and sign in with your source ArcGIS account—the one that contains your content. 2. Click the Content tab and locate the item you want to copy. Click the item name to open the item details page. 3. Copy the id from the address bar in your browser. This is the long string of numbers and lower-case letters that appear at the very end of the URL. Do not include id=. 4. Paste the id into a note or other temporary document. 5. Find any other items you want to move. Copy the id for each. Some items contain other items as dependencies. For example, a dashboard probably references a map, and that map probably references a feature layer. The dashboard, map, and feature layer are three different items, but you only need to copy the dashboard. The dependent items will move with it automatically. Note: This document will first demonstrate how to copy a few items. At the end, it will explain how to adapt the process to copy many items at once. Next, you will create a new Jupyter Notebook in ArcGIS Pro. Jupyter Notebooks are an environment that you will use to write the Python code to transfer your content. 6. Open ArcGIS Pro. It does not matter which account you sign in with. 7. Click Start without a template. 8. On the ribbon, click the Insert tab and click the New Notebook The first thing you'll do in your new notebook is to connect to your source account—the one where the content is currently stored. 9. In the first cell, paste this text: username = input("Enter username of origin organization: ")
from arcgis.gis import GIS
gis1 = GIS("https://arcgis.com", username) 10. Click Run. 11. In the textbox that appears, type your username and press Enter. 12. In the Enter password textbox, type your password and press Enter. Next, you'll connect to your target ArcGIS account—the one you want to move your content into. 13. In the next cell, paste the following text: username_2 = input("Enter username of target organization: ")
gis2 = GIS("https://arcgis.com", username_2) 14. Click Run. 15. Enter the username and password of your target account. Finally, you'll identify the item(s) that you want to transfer and copy them to your target account. 16. In the next cell, type the following text, but do not run the code yet. items = gis1.content.search(query="id:")
print(str(len(items)) + " item will be cloned:")
items
17. Position your curser after the text query="id: and paste the id string that you copied earlier. 18. If you have multiple items, you can reference them like this: items = gis1.content.search(query= "id:(5f3b5c9325314fc3a11c1d649d37461e OR fc1b539234f44ee89845ea926e5e393f)") 19. Click Run. 20. The name of the item(s) to be cloned is printed. Confirm that it is correct. Finally, you will clone your content into your target account. 21. In the next cell, paste the following text: def deep_copy_content(input_list):
for item in input_list:
try:
print("Cloning " + item.title)
copy_list = []
copy_list.append(item)
gis2.content.clone_items(copy_list, copy_data=True, search_existing_items=True)
print("Successfully cloned " + item.title)
except Exception as e:
print(e)
print("The function has completed")
deep_copy_content(items) 22. Click Run. Wait until the text The function has completed has printed. 24. Go to ArcGIS Online and sign in with your target account. 25. Click the Content tab and verify that the item has been copied. If you were already on the Content page, refresh your browser to see changes. If you are copying an item that is dependent on other items, you should see all items copied over. In the example below, I only moved TestDashboard. Test Map and Test_Data were also copied. If you don't want this to happen, set copy_data=False in the code above. You can read more about the clone_items function here: https://developers.arcgis.com/python/api-reference/arcgis.gis.toc.html#arcgis.gis.ContentManager.clone_items How to copy items in bulk: 1. If you want to copy more than a few items at a time, return to the cell you wrote in step 16. Replace the text there with this: items = gis1.content.search(query="owner: {}".format(username), max_items=num_items, sort_field='id', sort_order='desc')
items
2. Re-run the cell. It will ask you how many items you want to copy. 3. Re-run the last cell to copy the content. You can find more ways to search for items in the Search reference document. How to copy a Classic story map: This method will not work with ArcGIS StoryMaps. Only Classic Story Maps. 1. Use the instructions above to copy both the story and any web maps that are used in the story. 2. Open the new story in edit mode (Configure App). You'll see that the maps and images are blank. 3. Click the Edit button and Change Media to reconnect maps and image. Alternatively, you can use the item_mapping parameter in the python script. See an example and instructions here: The Cloning Process.

Hi Jon, Closing your map will not undo or remove any of your changes. To reopen your map, go to the Catalog pane > Project tab. Expand the Maps group and double-click your map to reopen it. You can also right-click and choose Open. It will still have any changes that you made before you closed the map, even if you did not click the Save button first. If this is still a feature that you need, you can log the request in ArcGIS Ideas. Thank you, Heather

Hi Basel, Thank you for identifying this problem. A fix is in the works and we will be updating the lesson as well. In the meantime, you can get around the issue by following these steps before the steps in the Derive new locations section of the lesson. 1. In the Content pane, click on the ellipsis beside the gastransactions layer and choose Save Layer 2. Click the elipses again and click Show Item Details. 3. On the Item Details page, click Publish. 4. Return to your map. Click Add and Search for Layers. Add the new version of the Gas Transactions layer that you just published. 5. Continue on with step 1 in Derive new locations Now that the layer is published as a hosted service, the Derive New Locations expressions should work without issue.

Hi Jayanth, When you use the Apply Symbology tool, change the Target Field to the new field you want to analyze. Leave the Source Field to specify what was originally used to create the symbology. Make sure to choose Maintain ranges. In the example above, I started by mapping my layer on the field OATS. Next I wanted to symbolize the same layer, using the same class breaks values, but with the field BARLEY. Result: I hope that is the solution you need!

Hi Ritik, Regarding access to ArcGIS Pro and analysis: To download ArcGIS Pro, you can follow these instructions. With your Learn ArcGIS account, you should be able to see the analysis options in ArcGIS Online. The fact that you do not suggests to me that you may have multiple accounts. Perhaps you also have a public account and are signed in with it instead. Please make sure you are signed in with your "_LearnArcGIS" username. If the site will not allow you to sign in with that username, so to https://www.arcgis.com/ and try there instead. Regarding a learning plan for ArcGIS, I agree with Shane that it is important to know what your end goal is. The learning plan I would recommend to someone who wants to do scientific research is very different from someone who wants to apply GIS to manage resources for a municipality. The first person will never use some of the tools which are very important to the second person and vice versa. Without knowing too much about your specific goals, I will recommend that you learn ArcGIS Pro using these resources: Get Started with ArcGIS Pro | Learn ArcGIS (step-by-step lesson) ArcGIS Pro Basics (web course) Learn ArcGIS | Learn ArcGIS (path with a series of learning resources)
