Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL can both be used with great success, but certain tasks(backup, user management, integration with AD) to name a few are "easier" to do in SQL Server, if not can only be done in SQL Server. It really comes down to you and your organization's comfort and familiarity with each.

Hi Krishna, You can add base maps to the widget by configuring your base map gallery in ArcGIS Online or Portal. You will have to be an Administrator as this is a global setting for all users. ArcGIS Online: Choose basemap—ArcGIS Online Help | ArcGIS ArcGIS Enterprise: Customize basemaps—Portal for ArcGIS (10.6) | ArcGIS Enterprise There's really no other way to achieve what you're attempting.

nope, it's built into the installer for Data Store. We(Esri) take care of all of the back end stuff. ArcGIS Data Store is intended to be a hands off data cache. I'd like to point you to a white paper from Esri about this very subject: https://community.esri.com/community/gis/enterprise-gis/arcgis-enterprise/blog/2018/06/13/esri-whitepaper-data-in-arcgis-user-managed-and-arcgis-managed Give this a once through, and if you find you have further questions, I'll be happy to help you.

Hey Joel, with 900 employees, you could very well be hitting 20 cores for ArcGIS Server. I also do not see how many services you would have, this also has a direct impact on cores. I think your initial split out is good, now it comes down to cores per roll. ArcGIS Server is calculated using the Excel Spreadsheet. The rest you can start with 4 cores, then monitor CPU/RAM utilization and adjust up or down as needed.

Hey Sam, I'd like to recommend considering setting up a file share location on AWS or Azure. I would suggest virtualization your desktop, like you stated, then load the data to an object storage account like I've linked to below. Data can be moved to the container mentioned above and ingested from there directly to the virtual desktop, cutting down the number of back and forth. Also, both have Python Libraries that would allow you to automate much of this. AWS File Storage - Cloud Object Storage | Store & Retrieve Data Anywhere | Amazon Simple Storage Service Azure File Storage - File Storage | Microsoft Azure AWS SDK for Python - AWS SDK for Python Azure SDK for Python - GitHub - Azure/azure-sdk-for-python: Microsoft Azure SDK for Python

Hey Sam, ArcGIS Desktop and ArcGIS Pro can both be deployed on the cloud. Many customers do this today with great success. Here's a couple things to review on the documentation side: Cloud virtualization—ArcGIS Pro | ArcGIS Desktop ArcGIS Desktop 10.6.x system requirements—ArcGIS Help | ArcGIS Desktop Scroll down about half of the way and there's the recommendations for AWS and Azure listed. ArcGIS Desktop Licensing in the Cloud Whitepaper: https://downloads.esri.com/support/downloads/other_/arcgis_desktop_licensing_in_cloud_environments.pdf I'd be happy to discuss further or answer any specific questions you have here, or next week at the UC if you are attending.

djmcdermott I would think of ADS as a user cache. I would continue to maintain your eGDBs, even ones that are read-only. ADS is limited by Feature Service limits(1000 features returned) and you'll also be limited in the symbology that you can use when compared to a map service.
