The specific step of Unregistering the stand-by machine? ref: Configure a highly available portal—Portal for ArcGIS (10.5.x) | ArcGIS Enterprise Hmm, well i had done that step...as per my notes: \ Moving the content to local to ensure a single machine... um ok, yes that is what one would do, but you had HA before. Thus a decision was made to change your corporate architecture? (to avoid the issue?) My apologies if I mis-read your first post, but it was worded in a way that you knew exactly the cause. But you had not validated that missing the unregister step(s) that caused the issue at all as you changed your architecture as a fix. The search for the bug/issue continues...

How exactly have you determined it was a failed upgrade due to not following upgrade steps? what exact steps did you miss which caused the failure? I assume you have reproduced the issue to say it was due to 'something'. This also brings up the question of you mention you moved the content directory local.... why? If you knew you did not follow upgrade steps, why wouldn't you follow them and fix the missed steps you know to get it working as originally intended? I am a bit confused on this one. For myself, I followed the H.A. steps outlined by ESRI, and created screen shot documents of the process. The secondary is completely uninstalled, including some manual directory deletes. Then fresh install... after install, but before Join an Existing Portal, you have to delete the content directory (by default is c:\arcgisportal\content) etc etc... The Primary portal, which was upgraded, fails to load basemaps as per my screen shot. I have doubts the secondary machine has any contribution to this issue as the failure occurs even before adding the Secondary. I do however question weather the upgrade handles when a) WebContextURL is enabled b) when the content is on a NAS/SAN (shared). I have also done an upgrade (from 10.4 to 10.5.1) to a single portal instance, in our DEV environment successfully, so that would coincide with your results on a single machine upgrade.

Upgraded H.A. Active/passive Portal through NLB to 10.5.1... Basemaps are no longer available. This of course, is my suspicion as to why WABde no longer can create new apps to this portal either. In Portal, attempting to add a basemap, just has the loading screen... eventually just disappears.

Tried the demo in I.E., worked! Tried again in Chrome, failed to load. Rebooted machine.. now works (unknown cause). Can you provide a link for the version you are using to get this to work in 2.5? Thanks

Thanks Rickey, First Id like to comment on that link specifically.. Doesnt seem to work with WABde 2.5, even though the Read me has a comment of that it might..... tried commenting out as written. Can anyone verify workable with version 2.5? And the instructions/How to are atrocious from this forked version... (document / procedural skills gets a D-) And to boot... the sample online has errors and does not load. (ref: http://gis.ashland.or.us/demo3/ ) Searched for another version... Using the 2.2 version... seems to work at first running on WABde 2.5, but then... you can never get out of the configuration window... pressing OK, does nothing, cancel, the upper right X... the user can only leave the page, ever able to save the configuration Spun up WABde 2.4... same issue. WABde 2.2 has way too many bugs to resort to that level. Searched more... found a new 2.5 version ref: GitHub - cmndrbensisko/LocalLayer at LocalLayer2.5 and the unfortunate same things occurs... unable to EXIT the configuring of the widget without killing the session. Click on OK, you see the widget appear on the header, but the dialog does not disappear. Hit again and it say, 'Label Already exists'. The upper right X does nothing and Cancel does nothing. Some issue with the table seems to occur: I will do further investigating on this when I can... Any comments appreciated.

Hi everyone, Business wants to be able to represent (symbolize) the 'same' data multiple ways. Currently this can only be done by adding multiple layers with the different symbology (all pointing to the same data). Or is there a way I've overlooked? The downfall to making mutliple layers is now the layman user would either need to know to apply the separate filters based on the layers they choose for symbology, creating duplicate filters. But wait... there is a Group Filter Widget.... but wait... this clunky awful widget just doesnt sit well with users. Is there any ideas, direction, code snippits to rig up the FILTER widget (not the group one) to point to multiple layers (which look at the same featureclass - so schema is the same). The Filter widget can be setup where as the user simply clicks on their options... (e.g. seen below can click on Low Battery and Bad Health) The user doesnt want to bother 'Adding criteria' like in the Group Filter), nor does group filter have the user ease as the Filter widget. I'd love to hear options, thoughts or alternate approaches to this (exception of JavaScript API of course) but to keep this in WABde. Thanks Group Filter: Filter: Other widgets such as Info Summary widget is handled by pointing it to a hidden featureclass that has ALL records visible in the REST service

WABde requires you, or anyone to sign into the the portal it would consume. This is done by the APP you had set up in the portal in the first place. If you are referring to 'dont show the WABde' at all... then this is not an ESRI question, but a Network admin question.

The only reason IT wants me to go with the Portal version is because of the "friendly" URL it creates Friendly? as in, the 32 char itemid hanging off the end of the URL is friendly? Bitly version friendly? I wouldnt call either of these friendly. It is more friendly to place the web app on a web server and call it anything you want. That would be readable... and 'friendly'. e.g. https://gerry.com/MyMap or https://MyMap.gerry.com Extract the web app from WABde >> dump to IIS >> e.g. https://mycorp.com/mymap looks more friendly than portal WAB URLs all day long. Highlights: Upgrades of WABde is much more controllable than Portal Upgrades. One is a light weight zip, the other is an enterprise upgrade or delicate replacing of folders in the back end. The huge advantage of using WABde is the adjustments and enhancements done on the back end... much easier to look for the app #, adjust the json or html in the back end, do the tweaks than to hunt for the 32 char portal item in the portal content directory and hope you dont break anything. e.g. adjust popup width and height... easy in WABde, not so much in Portal. Especially since Portal files sit on a server that most shouldn't have access to. Promoting WABDE is very easy when leveraging Visual Studio Code... find/replace the ID, and all front end URLS (e.g. a load balancer FQDN) done. copy new files to new environment easy. WABde contains more 'stuff' Broken apps are easy to recover when using WABde, not so much in portal. Downfalls: WABde breaks your custom stuff every upgrade done. (using the node_xXX upgrade command) (any json/ js / html is over written by the new version). so document these custom changes. There is more ... but hope this provides a start as a case for your IT discussions

That link reflects badly on ESRI. Not only is this a very inconvenient issue for any developer, the Solution or workaround within that link (ref: Error: The ValidateAddInXMLTask task failed unexpectedly... ) doesn't work. Worse yet, it is almost impossible to find that redistributable 2013 version. Why didn't ESRI host that install directly in your supporting files (via my.esri.com)... to avoid developers spending days figuring out this compiling issue...

I just saw this... scratch geodatabase? as in scratch gdb? I'm sure its just a mixup of terminology, but you are aware that an Enterprise Geodatabase is needed... e.g. SQL, Oracle, HANA, etc.

I think you are over complicating it all.. this is all managed by Catalog, ArcMap (History toolbar) and publishing with time layers... no issues. Read: The archive process—ArcGIS Help | ArcGIS Desktop
