We are a small unit of 2 people in our Central IT group providing GIS infrastructure to our agency with about 300 users of which 60 are doing GIS as their primary jobs. We have an ArcGIS Online account for Organizations and ArcGIS Server but have been resisting spinning up a version of Portal internally. My question is, are ArcGIS Online and Portal redundant? Since we have ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Server is there really a need for Portal? Thanks

We will be upgrading from ArcSDE 10.2.2 to ArcSDE 10.4.1 on SQL Server 2012 so we will be ready to migrated to SQL 2016 at the end of the year. With the SDE command line views going away we will be recreating them as SQL Server views but the names and field types will remain the same. Will we need to update MXDs that use these views in joins and relates? Do the joins/relates break?

We are still seeing this problem at 10.2.2. Don't know why the feature extent changes to absolutely unreal values when the editors never zoom out beyond Washington state. Performance when digitizing with snapping on goes from very slow to unusable! In the past recalculating the feature extent, then recalculating the spatial indexes fixed the problem but not this time. We have several feature classes in a single feature database with topology set. I'm opening a ticket with ESRI but if anyone knows of a solution for this or even ideas I'd love to hear them.

It turns out that both installs were done using a USB thumb drive which resulted in the python folder being installed on that drive instead of the C: drive. Once the USB drive was removed there was no python. The easy fix was to un-install, copy the ArcGIS software over to the C: drive, remove the USB drive, and install ArcGIS one last time with no external drives attached.

They are just trying to open ArcToolbox to run an esri tool. They have no toolboxes of their own.

Nope, logging in as a different user didn't help. It a new month old DELL laptop and the toolbox has never successfully opened. It took almost 2 minutes before it crashed.

I'm must be getting old because I can't find the ArcGIS Desktop area under All Places > GIS. Anyway, we have a user who's laptop crashes when Toolbox is opened in ArcMap. The GIS Analyst working with ESRI did a reinstall of ArcGIS Desktop 10.2.2 but the problem remains. That analyst is out sick but I need ideas on what to try next. Thanks

Suggestions 1) I signed on to the web based Agenda application when if first came out. I noticed that several sessions that I had favorited disappeared so I assume they were canceled. One of the canceled ones disappeared just days before the UC and since it was very important for me I did not have any alternatives plans. Could there be an email alert when favorited sessions are deleted? Or, append something like the word "Canceld" to the title: (Canceled) Best Practices Converting Workflows from SDE Command Line UI Email alters for time / room changes would also have been nice. 2) Two years ago there were areas where attendees could sit down and recharge their mobile devices with multiple cords available. This year that wasn't the case so when my phone died I was disappointed that option was gone. Also, unlike two years ago, there were no PCs or iPads to available for checking email and agenda. If the agenda is only available online then please have some PCs or iPads available for users whos phones may have died or too small to work the agenda application. 3) At the various islands there are wonderful printouts listing all the technical sessions related to that subject like ArcGIS Server. It would be great if these were available on the website for the attendees to print out or copy to their devices.

Is there a PDF version of the agenda available? The performance issues were bad back in Aprill when the agenda planner was announced and it's only gotten worse. I don't attend the conference every year, but each time I go ESRI reinvents the agenda planner but it never gets better and this year it's worse than two years ago when I last attended.

I reported the performance and other issues here in this User Conference discuss area back on April 22nd. There has been no improvement from what I can tell. Initially, IE didn't work so I moved to Chrome but not Chrome isn't working for me either.

I contacted ESRI nearly 2 years ago and asked that they escalate this "known bug" but the team that reviews the escalation requests said it wasn't a very low priority. What makes it worse for us is that we were told to move from SDE Binary to SQL Server native Geometry as a workaround to another ESRI bug that had no fix!

With SDE views, in earlier versions of ArcSDE, it was possible to attach metadata to the views. Is it possible to do this in enterprise geodatabases at 10.4? If not is this functionality gone forever? We've always taken advantage of sde views, views created with the SDE command line utilities, to document the many views we maintain of our feature classes. With metadata attached to views they can be used just like feature classes and tables. If the feature class is copied to a file geodatabase the metadata goes with it. In fact, the user may not even know they are working with an view.

It would be nice if they could flag canceled sessions otherwise people who have already planned their sessions are going to show up at the time and place only to find out it's been canceled. Also, if they are added talks how are we do know without going through the whole agenda the Friday before hand? Again, if they are adding new sessions it would be nice to flag those too. After all, it's 2016 and a schedule application should be able to handle when the audience is 16,000 plus users. /rant off

New question, the agenda has been out for a couple weeks but are there additions / removals still going on? I ask because two of the sessions I added to my schedule over a week ago are now gone. Tuesday's "A Guide to Caching Services using ArcGIS for Server" and Wednesday's " Debugging Python Scripts" are both missing from the schedule and My Schedule. I tried the search with no luck... Thanks

Forest, I think ESRI only supports a DateTime data type. Therefore, it's creating a true "date time" value by joining your raw times to a default or start date.
