Roles are the way to go. Now is anyone mapping windows groups to roles rather than adding the users to the database and assigning the database user to roles?  For example Windows group Parcels --> SQL role Parcels   instead of SQL users Joe, Ted and Max ---> SQL role Parcels Our business IT group is going that way so I'm going alway with it.  But when I added all my windows users to SQL I could bring up their userid and see all the roles that user was a member of my database.  With windows groups I have to query active directory which generates a list of all groups the userid is a member of.  These include email groups, project groups etc.  It just isn't very clean. ... Are you using the same login when browsing through ArcCatalog that you are in SQL Server?  If not the login used in AC might not have the proper priviledges set. ... View more

Ours in a physical server. What ESRI wanted us to do is do a P2V or physical to virtual so we could send them the P2V and they could restore it on their side.  I hope that clears things up. ... View more

ESRI tried to reproduce our issue by reproducing our environment but couldn't.  They asked us to send a VM of our system but we had problems exporting the VM.  To their credit ESRI spent at least a few staff weeks trying to help us.  So we are still doing the "Automatic (Delayed Start)" workaround.  The tech did say that we weren't the only ones reporting the problem but that they still couldn't reproduce it. ... Under SDE 9.2 my deletefeatures took only a few seconds to run.  When I upgraded to 64-bit SDE 9.3.1 (SQL 2008) it started taking  20 minutes or more.  What I didn't realize is that my ArcGIS client was still at 9.2.  Once I upgraded to ArcGIS 9.3.1 matching ArcSDE it went back to normal. ... Did you make any progress on this?  We are getting a different error number but the same result. "A read operation on a large object failed while sending data to the client. A common cause for this is if the application is running in READ UNCOMMITTED isolation level. This connection will be terminated." In our case an ArcObjects program loses its connection to ArcSDE.  Like you we are running ArcSDE 9.3.1 64-bit on 64-bit Windows Server 2008 R2. ... View more
