When using the Image Server standalone product there were fields for a Title, Geographic area, etc. I don't see these anywhere in Mosaic Datasets. Is there anyway to associate a metadata file with the service?

Chris, Thanks, I just commented out the AddToolbox lines in 2 of my scripts which has them working. Any idea if a 9.3 python script running in a 10.0 PC can connect to 10.0 ArcSDE?

I've got around 50 python scripts that I run on a regular basis. They are all 9.3 scripts using the arcgisscripting. I found when I tried to run them on a 10.0 PC that they all fail on the gp.AddToolbox("C:/Program Files/ArcGIS/ArcToolbox/Toolboxes/Data Management Tools.tbx") line. Obviously, they fail because the toolboxes are installed in a different location at 10 in the C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\Desktop10.0\ArcToolbox folder If I change the gp.AddToolbox line to point to these will it work? I called ESRI and the tech there said that 9.3 scripts should work at 10.0.

Is the scheduled job running under a different user? If so try logging in as that user and running it manually. The scheduled user may not have rights to a license.

I've been porting scripts from 9.2 to 10.0 and finding I have to add "_management" onto the end of many of the tools. Why is that? The scripts all worked in 9.2 and 9.3. I'm sure the answer is going to be real simple. # 10.0 Code # Load required toolboxes... ARCGISHOME="C:/Program Files/ArcGIS/Desktop10.0/" arcpy.AddToolbox(ARCGISHOME+"ArcToolbox/Toolboxes/Data Management Tools.tbx") arcpy.AddToolbox(ARCGISHOME+"ArcToolbox/Toolboxes/Analysis Tools.tbx") arcpy.DeleteField_management vs # 9.3 Code # Load required toolboxes... gp.AddToolbox("C:/Program Files/ArcGIS/ArcToolbox/Toolboxes/Data Management Tools.tbx") gp.AddToolbox("C:/Program Files/ArcGIS/ArcToolbox/Toolboxes/Analysis Tools.tbx") gp.deletefield

Got that wrong. Data frame is there but the data extent is way off. It turned out to be a problem with the data frame clipping setting. By changing it to No Clip the data extent fixed itself.

I'm in the process of upgrading a series of 9.3 MXDs to 10.0. They used DS Map Book so I'm deleting the DS Map Book text from the map then enabling Data Driven Pages. When I do that the data frame disappears off the map. I even tried saving it as a 10.0 document before doing the enabling but that didn't help.

I understand mosaic datasets can read in ISDEF files. Now that Mosaic Datasets are here is their any reason for the Image Server Extension?

Thank you jscheirer for the solution. I installed the .NET Framework SDK so I would have the gacutil.exe. Using that command I registered the two ESRI DLLs. See this thread.

I have a simple script that runs in 9.2 but doesn't in 10.0. I've isolated the problem down to the USGSMPTranslator_conversion command. It runs in 9.2 in Python but not at 10.0. So to test things at 10.0 I created a model using only the USGSMPTranslator converstion tool. This tool puts out to a file metadata from a feature class. The model works but not as a python program when exported. As you can see below there isn't must to it. As a model it does report metadata errors in the log file but that shouldn't be a problem. Any ideas? ---------------Program Below----------------------------------------- # Import arcpy module import arcpy # Local variables: ws_occurpoint_dr = "L:\\data_release\\phs_development\\digitaldata\\Randy10\\project.mdb\\ws_occurpoint_dr" ws_occurpoint_dr_full_xml = "L:\\data_release\\phs_development\\digitaldata\\Randy10\\wdfw_phs\\ws_occurpoint_dr_full.xml" Log_File = "L:\\data_release\\phs_development\\digitaldata\\Randy10\\wdfw_phs\\ws_occurpoint_dr_full.log" # Process: USGS MP Metadata Translator arcpy.USGSMPTranslator_conversion(ws_occurpoint_dr, "", "XML", ws_occurpoint_dr_full_xml, Log_File) ---------------Error Message Below----------------------------------------------- Traceback (most recent call last): File "C:\Python26\ArcGIS10.0\Lib\site-packages\Pythonwin\pywin\framework\scriptutils.py", line 312, in RunScript exec codeObject in __main__.__dict__ File "L:\data_release\phs_development\digitaldata\Randy10\usgsmetadataexport.py", line 18, in <module> arcpy.USGSMPTranslator_conversion(ws_occurpoint_dr, "", "XML", ws_occurpoint_dr_full_xml, Log_File) File "C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\Desktop10.0\arcpy\arcpy\conversion.py", line 620, in USGSMPTranslator raise e AttributeError: Error in getting tool information

This is my first try with map automation so I'm starting small. I just want to print out all the mxds in a directory. I started testing with just one MXD and I'm already having problems. Can you configure printer / page settings with arcpy? My test MXD is a color 9.3 MXD, with 11x17 format. It keeps coming out on 4 8.5x11 sheets of paper in B/W. I've saved the MXD after setting the color and page size but when I go back in those settings are lost. Any ideas? import arcpy.mapping as map mxd = map.MapDocument(r"H:\Data Release\sect_s28t23r41e\maps\phshalebuffsect.mxd") printerName = "\\\\DFWPSOLY01\\DFWHN5W5185b" map.PrintMap(mxd, printerName, "PAGE_LAYOUT") del mxd

I'm a bit confused. The 10.0 documentation says that Image Server is now Legacy. [INDENT]"ArcGIS 10 is the last release of the stand-alone ArcGIS Image Server product. The image service definition (.ISDef) has been replaced by an improved geodatabase data model???the mosaic dataset???which can be published as an image service using the ArcGIS Server Image extension."[/INDENT] Do Mosaic Datasets only occur in geodatabases? If so and Image Server goes away at 10.1 then it is a step back when it comes to backing up data. If I had 500 GB of imagery that has to be loaded into a geodatabase I now have 1TB on my file system. Sure I can delete the original source files but that still leaves me with a 500GB geodatabase to back up. Say one of the images changes. I will then have to back up the 500GB geodatabase again. We do get several projects tickling in so this can be a problem. Another issue is time. With Image Server I can have a new image service up shortly after copying the source imagery on to the server. But now the imagery must be mosaic into a geodatabase? Hopefully someone will tell me I've misunderstood the whole mosaic dataset thing.

While using ESRI's MultiMXDReport.py tool I noticed that the value returned using lyr.dataSource is wrong in all the MXDs where I manually changed data sources! First off these are 9.3.1 MXDs edited with 9.3.1 ArcGIS Desktop. We moved over to a new server so I went into each MXD and changed layer source through Properties | Source | Set Data Source. We do have 10.0 sp2 on a PC so I decided to generate a report using MultiMXDReport.py to verfity that all layers are pointing to the correct data source. Unfortunately, all the data sources kept their original values making it useless. LAYER: LN Group Layer Path: Level 10-9 \LN Source: C:\Documents and Settings\xxxxxxxxxx\Application Data\ESRI\ArcCatalog\PHSDev_ManagerAtPHSonDev.sde\PHS.DBO.WDFW_PHSPLUS_LN_SV Dataset type: Unknown (could be a broken data source) Query Definition: None Reference each layer in a data frame
lyrList = arcpy.mapping.ListLayers(mxd, "", df)
for lyr in lyrList:
outFile.write("\n")
outFile.write("\t\t LAYER: " + lyr.name + "\n")
outFile.write("\t\t\t Group Layer Path: " + lyr.longName + "\n")
if lyr.supports("dataSource"):
outFile.write("\t\t\t Data Source: " + lyr.dataSource + "\n")
try:
outFile.write("\t\t\t Dataset type: " + arcpy.Describe(lyr.dataSource).datasettype + "\n")

outFile.write("\t\t\t Dataset type: Unknown (could be a broken data source) \n")
else: outFile.write("\t\t\t Data Source: N/A \n")

So is there any other way that is easier to store symbology for a layer besides using layer files? Layer files were created for this very reason. It doesn't get much easier than this. What is it that you need to do that Layer Files can't do?

Is there a Data Driven Pages Tutorial? Here is what we want to do. The user digitizes a rough polygon in ArcMap or a Web application. This polygon is passed to a geoprocessing task that produces a map centered on the polygon then converts that to a PDF. The PDF part is easy but I'm not sure where to start on the map. We don't have a index later so to speak or would be just create one by creating a polygon of a map extent that fully contains the user's polygon?
