With your version10 machine are you using a local local or arcgis online? If the former, can you simply build your own and forget about the broken one?

I just tried doing this and it will not let me specify the fips as text because "the table or feature class is not empty", which seems logical, but I'm confused as to why you can't edit when this is true? Can you post a copy of the source data? Are you trying to import it into an existing table? If so use a different output name.

As you described in your original post, you have a text file (.txt) with information in it that you want to join to your feature class. I'm suggesting to import the .txt file into a table format within the same geodatabase your feature class is. I prefer to work within ArcGIS all the time; I don't like csv files, excel spreadsheets etc. I like database tables. Right click on your geodatabase and select import table. With the All Filters option you can pretty much import any type of file out there. Once you select your file, you can use the Field Map window to specify how each field will be typed (text, double, long int, etc).

I've never attempted to join (or relate) a text file; is creating a real-live geodatabase table from the text file an option for you?

I want to replace the old version with the new... Any chance you can get the data provider to set up an SDE database (even a personal sde) ? Then you could use a one-way replication and sync your local FGDB(s) at some interval. That's the sort of scenario that I have gone with and it works well for me. Replacing an entire FGDB for a few edits seems like a whole lot of overhead; you're already experiencing some headaches...

Hi Joe, Thanks for your nice response. I am new in doing this kind of things and I need your detailed instructions to do the 2 ways of uploading the Excel .xlsx data into the empty SDSFIE geodatabase: (i) Where (in ArcMap or ArcCatalog) should I start doing "import it with the import table command? (ii) If I do the "Display XY data" in ArcMap, how can I be sure it is associted with the SDSFIE geodatabase I had? Frankly speaking, I don't know what the fields of "EnvironmentalSampleLocation" are for!!?? I am confused now. Please kindly help and give me more detailed instructions for (i) and (ii). Many Thanks again, Scott Chang You probably ought to get a little more familiar with what ArcGIS does, some basic nomenclature etc. Here is the link to the version 10 online help; http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcgisdesktop/10.0/help/ Start with the essentials library. Back to your questions: i) In ArcCatalog, right click on your database and select Import. Then select Table(single) and follow the dialog windows to navigate to your xlsx file. ii) When you Display XY data, that's all you are doing; displaying it on your map. You can create an actual feature class by right clicking on the 'XY Events' layer in the table of contents and selecting Data and then Export Data. The dialog window allows you to navigate to a geodatabase of your choosing, and allows you to give the feature class a name. The geodatabase should be created already; if not there is a little database icon with an asterisk on it that allows you to create a new filegeodatabase. Finally- I can't help you with what fields are are in the xlxs table, nor can I help you with what fields you need for your database. Those issues are up to you to resolve.

James- in the import dialog, take a closer look at the Field Map (optional) window pane. Here you can right click on the source field name, select properties, and instruct the utility the desired type to import. So, it may be a text file that is a string of numbers that you want to import as integer and so forth. Hope this helps

Not sure if this will help you or not: http://support.esri.com/en/bugs/nimbus/TklNMDgxNzkw To permanently fix if you are not able to install 10.1sp1 use the following steps. 1. Open the USAddress.lot.xml file located in the c:\program files\arcgis\desktop10.1\locators folder in an XML or text editor. 2. Change the two occurrences of the following tag from false to true. FROM false TO true

I have been on the phone with ESRI for hours and hours over various days, we still cannot find a reason or a solution to this issue. I did not originally create our sde database. There is of course an object ID field, we have a Facility ID field, it autopopulates when a feature is created. I would like to stop that, also the big problem is that for example, my fire hydrants have a facility id that the engineers use, I need to keep that ID the same throughout the life of the hydrant. I created a new feature class for the hydrants with more fields and a neater layout. When I use the object loader to transfer the old hydrants data to the new feature class all of the feature classes are renamed using the object id value. I tried to use filed calculator, did not work, I tried to just manually change the field to the value I wanted it to be and it would snap back to the default value. I really need an answer on this, it's been weeks of researching what could be the cause or what the solution could be. I am using arc 10.2.1 and sql server also windows 7 thanks cartogal Sounds like a property of the database; maybe there is an ArcObjects class extension that fires. I'm no expert on such matters by any means. If you were loading new features into the old feature class, I'd say it is a sql trigger in the delta tables. What if you: Back up your SQl db Create a stand alone file geodatabase Create an empty hydrants feature class in the fgdb with the attribute table of your design Back up your SQl db Using the simple data loader (not the object loader) load the old features and then the new features into the FGDB feature class Back up your SQL DB Delete the SQL db feature class (Have I mentioned backing up your SQL db prior to doing this?) Export/Import the 'new feature' class into your sql db Or.... don't use the object loader and just use the simple data loader in your original scenario, and see if that makes a difference... Hope this helps-

um i never done this before and your answer was to complex 🙂 I want to keep everything the same just only need 3 counties on my map. Or: In an ArcMap session add your counties polygon feature class, right click on it in the TOC and choose properties: then select the Definition Query Tab. In the Query Builder enter in CountyNameField = A or CountyNameField = B or CountyNameField = C and apply.(Where CountyFieldName is the field that has the county name in it and A,B,and C are the names you want.) When only the three are visible, right click again your counties feature class in the TOC and zoom to layer. This adjusts your extent. Now right click any where in your dataframe and Select DataFrame Properties. Choose the DataFrame Tab. Towards the bottom you'll see Clip Options; the default is No Clipping. Select Clip to Shape. Click the Specify Shape... button. Click Outline of Features. Under Features, select Visible. Click Okay, and close; click Apply and close. Add your data, build your map...

I was able to create an address locator Dual Range with Street Midline data, but now I'm trying to create a single house address locator using city parcel data (Polygons). I joined a data table of city addresses to my Parcels layer using a PIN (Property ID Number) in order to have St_Num, St_Name, Etc. When I try creating the locator, I have Parcels as the Primary table and from what I read, the data table has all neccessary credentials to be executed, but I can never run the tool because it's telling me that I still do not have enough reference data. I'm wondering why this is and what I should try to do to get this to run. Please Help! Perhaps you could provide a screen capture of your locator.

My Street_midline feature class has attributes of ID, shape, city, state, zip, street names, street suffix, street type, shape length. When I try and geocode by street name, all of my results are unmatched. No address ranges? If you have a business address of 1234 Main ST and your street data only shows MAIN in the street name and ST in the type, there is nothing to match it to....
